  1. Escobar pushes his average above .300 with a couple of doubles. Salome with his second pass ball in as many days - his defense (on paper anyway) does not appear to be improving. The Chris Dennis train keeps rolling for the T-Rats.
  2. The NBA needs to dump the WNBA and start up a real minor league developmental system.
  3. If you're worried about getting let go, then wait as long as possible. It's cool you want to give them lots of notice but it's cooler having a job and a paycheck.
  4. I think that may be you developing more than the films themselves. You probably get something different out of it now that you're older than you did when you were little. They do a great job incorporating mature themes that adults can appreciate while still keeping it light hearted enough for kids.
  5. As ugly as they look it wouldn't surprise me to see this take hold in the midwest in a couple of years. I'm 36 and can remember many fashion/hairstyle trends that were shredded by everyone in Milwaukee only to end up being everywhere a few years later.
  6. Star of Kung Fu and co-star in Kill Bill movies reportedly hung himself in a Bangkok hotel room. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/31103217/
  7. One warning: you might have to say goodbye to a few of your toenails. I lost three (and one of my big ones turned black) from running on the balls of my feet. Also, depending on your, uh, body type you might have to lube up your nipples on long runs with a little vaseline (like Andy in The Office). You'd be amazed how many people get bloody streaks on their shirts at the end of a marathon from chaffing. Yes, that was too much information but you'll thank me later.
  8. Good luck, PF28. A roommate of mine was a big marathon and triathlete guy (participated in an Iron Man once) and he said if you can run a half marathon you pretty much have the endurance to run a full marathon. During training I got up to 20 miles on one run and that was mostly to pass the mental barrier that I could actually run that far.
  9. How do we know who is Brewer property vs Oriole property?
  10. "I love him," Stars manager Bob Miscik said. "He's hard-nosed, loves to play. He's got a short, quick bat and uses the whole field." Apparently not hard enough.
  11. Others probably have more experience than me, but when I ran a marathon my training was four days a week - medium runs on Tues and Thurs, short run on Sat, and long run on Sundays.
  12. Hindsight is 20/20 on every draft. For Bogut, the overwhelming consensus was that pick would be either Bogut or Marvin Williams. Yes, in retrospect they should have taken Paul but I can't blame a team for taking Bogut there. It's not like he was some reach at #1.
  13. 4) Who has come closest to hitting .400 since Ted Williams did in 1941? George Brett is the first that comes to mind but I don't think that's right. EDIT: Well there was Tony Gwynn but I don't know if you can count that since the year ended prematurely. 5) Who has hit the only grand slam in the all-star game? Fred Lynn?
  14. Escobar's career splits are: RH .280/.310/.358 LH .348/.391/.439
  15. When sufficient time has passed and all the parties are no longer with the Brewers I hope you let us know which thread that was and why it was posted.
  16. I had the opportunity to have a few cocktails with brooks at McGillicuddy's in Milwaukee once. Brooks, you probably don't remember - I barely do. My friend was an usher for the Iowa Cubs while attending law school and shared a few memories with you. Thanks for being so cordial....granted the libations probably helped.
  17. DM has stated it is just in case another 2nd baseman gets hurt on the big league team.
  18. Jones has had one decent season statistically (granted he was really young the first pass in AA), Meche at least had a bit of a track record over several seasons before he got hurt. Unless Jones gets his K rate up I can't really get all that excited. Impossible not to root for him though.
  19. I guess so. From Wiki (never knew this): Hornsby was one of the more controversial characters in baseball history. Although he did not drink or smoke, he was a compulsive gambler. As with Ty Cobb, his photogenic smile belied a dark side. One writer characterized him as "a liturgy of hatred," and according to baseball writer Fred Lieb, Hornsby confessed to being a member of the Ku Klux Klan.
  20. Ah. Thanks for clarifying that.
  21. Agreed. Someone called them out on that in the blog. They like bringing up all the classy players from their history (Hornsby, Brock, Ozzie, Gibson, Musial, etc.) but they conveniently forget about Andujar. I'm sure they weren't up in arms over his antics in those days.
  22. Gah, I was pretty close on the Triple Crown thing....Yaz had 2nd lowest. I'll let someone else take a crack since I looked it up. (I'll provide a hint - Chad Moeller did not win the Triple Crown)
  23. Levitation is really classless.
  24. I'm not sure if Wins Produced is the same as Win Shares but Win Shares are slightly flawed in that the better team you are on the higher your win shares will be by osmosis. For 2008- 2009 if you ranked players by win shares, Ray Allen would be #8 and Mo Williams #19.
