  1. Trading Fielder was brought up. Melvin did try to trade Prince in his walk year, but the market was soft. With the soft market Melvin went the other way and got a playoff team together with Fielder. I like that he was able to shift gears and go the other direction (from reloading/ rebuilding to contending). That other direction did cost us our best prospects, but I liked the moves at the time and won't Monday morning quarterback them. Hart was supposedly available this off season, but apparently there wasn't a sweet enough deal on the table. I'm sure no one here would've been happy to just give Hart away. Melvin stated that he likes to trade position players in the off season as he feels they bring back a better return, so that's a likely reason he wasn't dealt when Greinke was. I'm with those who think Melvin is a good, not great GM. The Crew, Toolivebrew, & Monty, I love your big ideas and think they usually have sound reasoning. But are we sure that Melvin had the freedom (Attanasio) and the dance partners to pull off these moves?
  2. The after market prices are $20-$40 higher than they were last season. I too am hoping for a drop in price closer to game day. But what if that doesn't happen ? Can I handle not making it for the first tine since '97? I wish the Brewers would just jack opening day tickets up to these crazy prices. I'd much rather give the money to the Crew as opposed to some slimy scalper.
  3. I just don't want to go Dempster diving. He has that Soupy feeling. Veteran righty without great stuff "that just knows how to pitch". "Hey, this guy dominated us-- think what he could do in our rotation!" Dempster is getting longer in the tooth. Dip in velocity. Poor second half during a pennant chase. And I don't especially care for his funky glove hand gamesmanship. He's up to something with it, and I don't like it!! Two years wouldn't be the end of the world, but I'd prefer other options. Marcum, Haren, Jackson-- Zach Grienke
  4. Fellow Brewer fans isn't this freaking awesome!! Just unbelievable! I thought this team was dead in the water this spring. Gonzales, Gamel, and Narvy lost for the year. The bullpen, our supposed strength, implodes like nobody's business. We trade our beloved Zack Grienke and would've dealt anyone else whom had value. I was fine with each loss because we were out of it and it helped our draft standing in 2013. And now, 3 games out. Still a tough road to hoe, but not a road I thought we'd be looking down. YES YES YES!!!!

  6. As long as his arm checks out, I'd offer the one year qualifying deal. As other posters have said, if he takes it great, if not take the pick.
  7. Have we seriously been reduced to hoping for the Riot or Fontenot? The 2009 Cubs called and they want their starting infield back. I want to put this in blue, but I can't. I would prefer Theriot over Fontenot and Izturis. That's just my gut feeling without actually looking into the numbers. If stat heads tell me that Theriot is God awful, I mean overall worse than Izturis than I would change my uneducated mind.
  8. From Adam McCalvy's notes. I know it's just my historical Brewer fan knee jerk reaction (see the mighty Brad Nelson), but Mr. Ramirez career just took a nose dive. Combine the injury with that fact that some of the draft knowledgeable posters questioned the pick to start with and it sounds like a unfortunate draft pick at the moment. On the other hand, Taylor Green finally bounced back from his hamate injury, so that's something we could hope for in about 3 seasons. And I hope Maxwell will bounce back quickly from his injury. He needs to keep his success from Helena going at Wisconsin.
  9. This was an article from JS Brewer Blog. To me, this is what's right about baseball (heck makes me feel better about humanity in general). Very, very classy Hawk. Phoenix - Many of the departed veterans from last year’s squad are missed in the Brewers’ clubhouse. One of the most conscientious mentors was reliever LaTroy Hawkins, who signed as a free agent with the Los Angeles Angels. Reliever Tim Dillard recalled a touching gesture by Hawkins as the Brewers arrived in New York last year for an interleague series against the Yankees. “We were just pulling into the hotel and ‘Hawk’ called me up to the front of the bus,” said Dillard. “I didn’t know what was going on. I didn’t know if I was going to have to do (his) Harry Caray (impression) or what. “He said, ‘Has anybody ever bought you a suit?’ I told him I couldn’t remember anybody doing it. So he took me across the street to this place the players like to go to and bought me a suit. “It was unbelievable. Before we left, he had bought me two suits, four dress shirts and a couple of ties. Then, he said, ‘You know why I’m doing this? Because he did it for me.” And he points to this picture of Kirby Puckett hanging on the wall.” It’s called paying it forward.
  10. Player of the Year: Ryan BraunPitcher of the Year: Zach GreinkeRookie of the Year: Aoki (would be Gamel if he qualified)Most Improved Player(s): Manuel Parra Biggest Drop-off(s): T-PlushQuestions Answered:1) Who will get the first contract extension? Zack Greinke (5-yr/$85 mil)2) Who will be the first traded away or released (off the expected 25 man roster)? Traded T-Plush3) What position in the NL Central will the Brewers finish? 2ndRecord: 87-75
  11. - Player OTY: Taylor Green - I think they play him everyday at AAA - Pitcher OTY: Tyler Thornburg (Would love for this to be a healthy mark Rogers!) - New-comer: Jed Bradley - He's got to be the favorite out of the clubhouse - Most improved: D'Vo - Loved TLB's Walla prediction. TLB, why Arcia at 2nd base? I'm pretty sure I saw that Colby has stated that McFarland will probably have to move off of SS long term. I know you're one of the bigger Arcia backers out there, so this just surprised me. (Not trying to pick a fight, just curious.)

  13. Please no. I'd really like to see what Gamel can do. Signing Pena would almost defiantly mean a salary dump for K-Rod. I'd like to hang onto K-Rod. I know the numbers say otherwise, but I don't think Pena is all that.
  14. Rather than starting a new thread I thought I would ponder this question here. Assuming the Crew doesn't trade K-Rod, with the three signings of ARAM, K-Rod and Gonzalez that's a fair chunk of change. If K-Rod hadn't accepted arby, how or would the Brewers have spent that extra 9-13 million dollars? I personally don't know that they would have. The ARAM signing when they had internal options for third makes me wonder if they had another signing in mind if K-Rod hadn't button hooked them.
  15. I really like this signing. I've liked Ishikawa every time I've seen him in San Fran. No special reason. I just think he looks like a good gap power, .270 left handed hitting 1st baseman. Minor league deal, why the heck not. We don't have a legit first base prospect in AAA this season. Maybe with Braun's suspension Gamel can play LF and Ishikawa can man 1st.
  16. Not what was expected to happen, but not the end of the world. Late innings should be in great hands. Most likely not getting saddled with ARAM which I believe will be a good thing. Love the idea of Gamel & Green getting a shot. I am afraid the mighty Casey and Yuni will still be part of our lives. Not another year of will Hawkins/ Saito be healthy. Losing Prince was always going to be a big mountain to climb so our community can just blame baseball economics if the boys nose dive. Going to need to win with our good pitching staff and hopefully improved defense (one more time, PLEASE NO YUNI-- the numbers didn't lie Doug)
  17. Thank you Jim for the countless hours of enjoyment you've added to my life. Without the link report I'd have been just another numb skull belly aching about how bad the Brewers were and how it'll never get any better. But I found Brewerfan.com and my outlook and life were never the same. Some nice guy in freaking Massachusetts changed a shy farm kid in Wisconsin to a more knowledgeable Brewer fan. Thank you for that. Adding to the family? We just started last week at 33. You already knowing what's in store and still giving it a go-- YOU ARE A MAN AMONGST MEN!!Good luck and God Bless!
  18. I'm not sad to see Cory leave. He wasn't terrible, but I just never warmed to him. I think after living through AMAZING talents like Pat Hughes and Jim Powell, Cory had no chance of finding a soft spot in my heart. Good luck in the cities.
  19. 9 gamer checking in. Nothing from the Crew yet. In 2008 the 9 game folks got tickets to one game of the NLDS and one game to the NLCS, never a shot for World Series tickets. I'm hoping we receive the same opportunity this season.
  20. I just wanted to side with Yoshi on the notion that Gindl has at least a slightly above average arm. I don't know that we're talking Roberto Clemente, but I seem to remember that Gindl can hold his own. I remember watching a spring training two years ago against the Cubs and Gindl did show off an impressive arm that day.
  21. Worst case scenario we still leave town in first place. In that unhappy event, just shake it off and go to work Friday night. It's sure fun caring about baseball in August rather than just watching the packers depth chart.
  22. Such a tasty menu of pitching, and they all disappointed. Except for Schaub, of course he wasn't on the menu.
  23. I like Casey McGehee. He's been a great story. An underdog. An everyman. A guy the hated division rival gave up on and then proceeded to produce at an standout level. A seemingly good guy. But it's ENOUGH! ENOUGH! I sat watching last evenings game hoping for Casey to come through, to do something. What does he do? In the only inning the crew was able to bust through, Casey bounced into what should've been a double play. Only Sandavol's poor defense saved the double play. I don't know, and quite frankly don't care what the Brewers do wit Casey. Send him down, cut him, bench him, trade him. Don't go away mad Casey, just go away. Many on this site would love Taylor Green to get a shot. Management for some reason won't do this. What ever. I'm so frustrated that I would honestly be ok with Gamel manning third. His defense would no doubt be as bad as many on this site fear, but I feel desperate times may call for desperate measures. I would be fine with acquiring a third baseman via trade, as foolish as it may be due to limited trade chips and potential in-house replacements. But IMO, it's time. Please do something Doug. Enough is enough.
  24. I really disagree with RR's removing Narveson & Marcum during their last starts. Neither was for a pinch hitter at a crucial time of the game. Both had pitch counts in good/great shape and both were cruising. Why not let a guy finish what he started? Save K-Rod/ Axford for another day?
  25. 1. Tyler Thornburg - Please maintain REAL velocity and your health! 2. Wily Peralta 3.Taylor Green - Doug doesn't like you, please move out of Canada ASAP 4.Kyle Heckathorn 5.Logan Schafer - Hoping for a full time CF 6.Cody Scarpetta - Sure need that 5th option year 7.Caleb Gindl - I'm suffering from little man syndrome 8.Mark Rogers - What a difference a year makes. 9.Khris Davis - What does Melvin & Co. know that we don't? 10.Santo Manzanillo - A reliever as a top 10 prospect... boo WOW. You read the link report everyday and you kind of forget how weak the system is. Reminds of days gone by when Jason Shelly came out of the independent league and lit up Huntsville for a time. You are excited, but deep down you know better. I can honestly say there is no one on there I would call a sure bet. Hope? Heck yes. But not what we've been accustomed to. I guess that major league team being in contention will have to suffice http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
