  1. Also per McCalvy, Bill Castro has been dismissed. http://twitter.com/AdamMcCalvy
  2. Per Adam McCalvy's twitter. Don't know what to say, seems like an overreaction to me. EDIT: Title. -PF
  3. I've always wondered why smaller market teams don't take advantage of this. Higher signing bonuses are still less than most free agents...I realize that there's more risk involved in draft picks, but how much would it really cost per year to overpay a few later round picks?
  4. But when was the last time *any* NFL team signed a highly-touted free agent? Free agency hasn't really been as big in the NFL as it is in other sports, since they have so much in place to allow teams to retain their own players. As far as a totally communist "competitive balance" goes, the NFL is probably as close as you're going to get. That said, I must be the only person who can't stand it. I feel like the league is almost entirely a bunch of natural 8-8 teams, all battling to see who can be slightly luckier than the others and finish 10-6. I like having big evil teams to hate - its more fun to hate the Red Sox for buying championships than it is to make fun of them for sucking. The NBA gets a lot of crap for its financial system, but I really think they have the right idea. Unfortunately when the current CBA was rolled out, all of the GMs made the same mistakes at the same time, which is why we're seeing expiring contracts as some of the bigger trade assets right now. Once the Dan Gadzurics of the world's contracts expire, I expect the league to get a lot better, where you'll have a good mix of competitive balance and potential for long-term team success. They still have some things that could be fixed, but they're on the right track. On a side note, all of the financial manuevering going on is actually one of the things I quite enjoy about the NBA. Adds another element of strategy that you don't really see much of in other sports.
  5. I think this has more to do with the number of franchises than anything. Everything at McDonalds is terrible IMO, but their fries are probably the worst thing they have.
  6. Doc Wingate. I should be banned for referencing that movie.
  7. I'm pretty sure his (and the NY media) have only heard things from his agent. Every day, I feel more and more certain that he'll wind up taking the QO.
  8. I really hope Jesus Colome becomes a closer for us, just so he can use "Jesus Saves" by Slayer as his entrance music
  9. For a PTBNL. His ERA has been high, but the rest of the numbers this season have been quite good. I would have been happy to have him. link
  10. And Swindle has already been claimed by Tampa Bay: http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/52675857.html oh well.
  11. Ooh, good to see Josh Butler back, even if its just 2 innings in AZ. Still hope he might get a shot in the Milwaukee rotation this season or next.
  12. Remember Alex Sanchez? And Bill Hall? And Brady Clark?... Scott *shudder* PodsednikCenterfielder Jeromy Burnitz.
  13. Maybe MLB decided that it was punishment enough for the Dodgers to have Guillermo Mota on their roster?
  14. Would Hart's speed make for a smoother transition though? Most RFs are slow, but if Hart could move over still only be slightly below average, that wouldn't be the worst thing.
  15. Thanks, that goes along the lines of what I suspected. And he may not be good enough, but I don't believe we've seen his best yet in Milwaukee. Anyone who can throw so many pitches for strikes will get my attention., and he has struck out 12 in 11 1/3 major league innings. At a quick glance at gameday data, it appears that he has a lot more success with well-placed offspeed pitches.
  16. Didn't Jorge de la Rosa go on the DL for that?
  17. I don't mean to sound like I'm piling on Jason Kendall, but I noticed that 3 of Swindle's 4 hits allowed were fastballs thrown while he was ahead or even in the count. I assume that Kendall is calling for these pitches, and I assume that Swindle (being a junkballer) doesn't have the greatest fastball. To me, it seems like he should only be throwing this pitch when behind 3-0 or similar situations. When he's ahead in the count, shouldn't the batter be looking to make contact? If you're the catcher, why call for your pitcher's worst pitch when you know the hitter is going to swing at anything in the zone? Maybe I'm way off, but Swindle did also record two strikeouts on offspeed pitches. Can someone with a better scouting eye shed some light on this? Especially those who may have seen him pitch in Nashville, what was he throwing down there? It just seems odd that a pitcher can be so dominant against AAA hitting, and so bad against major leaguers.
  18. Have you considered getting two devices, space permitting? It might be cheaper in the long run to just go with a laser, since you won't have to buy ink refills all the time. Color lasers have come down in price quite a bit too. http://derivataters.com/BloodInk.jpg
  19. I don't think the Knicks are even all that interested. Sessions' agent has been claiming that the Knicks would be presenting an offer sheet "any day now" since the free agency window opened. I'm starting to think Sessions just ends up taking the QO. And probably firing his agent.
  20. Also keep in mind that McGehee's BABIP in the minors has generally been pretty high. Some guys just carry a higher BABIP over their entire careers, so I usually prefer to compare a player's single season number to his career averages instead as opposed to other players. That said, I think we need to shop him around at the very least. I do think he's a good hitter, but I don't see any reason to believe that he's a .900 OPS type of hitter, so we would likely be selling high.
  21. I thought that was interesting too. The Nashville announcer wasn't sure what to make of it last night, he mentioned that he was originally scheduled to start (today), but wasn't sure if that had changed. We'll see...
  22. I do agree on Wright, but Green is still only 24 and can get a few strikeouts. I still have some hope for him, though he's probably not much more than depth right now.
  23. Weird that Hall is playing in Nashville's second game even though he just got called back up. fake edit: and just before I hit submit, he singles, but gets thrown out at first after rounding the base. Huh.
  24. New and interesting opinions, crazy yet well-thought-out ideas and propositions, and not being afraid to get off-topic on occasion. So basically, something a lot like Joe Posnanski's blog!
  25. The L.A. Clippers say hello to you and this is where the Bucks are heading and if they start tanking I believe they will be the second coming of the Clippers.I wouldn't say any of those teams "tanked" either. San Antonio just happened to be bad the year David Robinson was injured, they probably could have been a playoff team otherwise. Orlando lost Grant Hill for the entire season. Boston lost Paul Pierce for half of the season. There's a big difference between tanking and losing your best player for the season with an injury. You could make an argument for Cleveland tanking, but that franchise had been horrible for years and wasn't going anywhere.
