  1. My left eye is permanently itchy.
  2. Do the stats even count for anything important in the regular season though? Obviously they're important so we can see how the players are doing, but I thought the minor leagues in general were more about learning an dexperience.
  3. We could do a series of Bush's almost-no-hitters, just like we always do a series commemorating our almost-World Series win. Bald Dave Bush, Handlebar Dave Bush, Neckbeard Dave Bush...the possibilities are endless.
  4. I was actually very happy to see Coffey used that early. It might have been the most critical point in the entire game, so it made sense to use one of your best pitchers. I was screaming for anyone but Vargas in the 8th though, at least after he loaded the bases.
  5. If anybody is being targeted, I would imagine it to be via trade. With all of these young-to-in-their-prime players we're bringing in on reasonable contracts, some of them are bound to run with the opportunity and have a breakout season. Then, maybe we can trade a few of them for an established star. Hammond is "buying low" on a lot of young-ish players, and that really can't be considered to be a bad thing.
  6. Some photos from last night's Wisconsin game: http://www.flickr.com/pho.../sets/72157622238689460/ (slideshow) http://www.flickr.com/pho.../72157622238689460/show/
  7. Use IMAP instead of POP3, problem solved.
  8. One of the big limitations of UZR is that it adjusts to new season averages every year. Here's an article that talks about this (which mentions Cabrera): http://www.beyondtheboxscore.com/2009/8/15/990174/uzrs-and-most-other-defensive
  9. Bump to post a link to some photos I got from the Wisconsin-Kane County game on 8/29: http://www.flickr.com/photos/richardhkirkando/sets/72157622077363985/ (slideshow) http://www.flickr.com/photos/richardhkirkando/sets/72157622077363985/show/ Edit to activate links...
  10. The thing with Jones that leaves me hopeful is that he's improved consistently since his last injury. Right away, his results were really bad. He was at a point where simply getting through the season without injury would have been a huge success, and he did that. Since then, his results have gotten better and better. If he can continue to improve, and get just a little better, he'll be fine. He's really close.
  11. Above replacement level is not the same as above average. A team of average players would be a .500 team, a team of replacement players would be a .300 team
  12. That's very true (or at least, it could be). You could also say that we're doing him a favor by delaying his free agency now, instead of keeping him in the minors for a month at the *beginning* of his career like most teams do with big-name prospects. This way, he gets an extra arby year instead of an extra league-minimum year.
  13. You can't evaluate individual players in a vacuum though. If Escobar projects to a higher WAR over the season, and Hardy can't/won't play any other positions, you could rightfully say this is purely a baseball move...with both players on the roster, and assuming the manager always picks the better player, Hardy isn't going to accumulate much WAR. (and I know this isn't what you were arguing...I agree that he's earned his salary. but it is at least somewhat dependent on playing time, so plenty of good players are going to have lower WAR)
  14. I don't mind the size of that store so much as the fact that *everything* costs about twice as much as it does anywhere else. And that includes the Copps across the street. I don't understand why anyone would shop there, unless they have some items that you can't find anywhere else.
  15. Obviously. Its too bad you missed out on the mustard sale at Pick N Save, otherwise you could have brought summer back for even longer.
  16. Did anybody pick up some Silver Spring mustard? How are you liking it so far? Do you think of Bob when you eat something with it?
  17. I think there's a little more to it than that. Supposedly, we were in for Peavy and Kazmir. But the other GM has to accept too.
  18. Lame. So, what was the point of this exactly? To help him fix his golf game, duh.
  19. From his stats, it looks to me like the biggest difference between Penny now and a few years ago is that he's having trouble keeping the ball down, thus giving up a lot more flyballs. If fangraphs' pitch values are any indication, I'd guess that he's hanging a ton of curveballs...if he ends up having to drop that pitch from his arsenal, he's probably going to lose a lot of his effectiveness as a starter.
  20. Already being discussed here. That thread must not be allowed to die.
  21. DHonks, if you open up a command prompt (not sure where this is on a mac, but its definitely there), do a: > telnet static.yuku.com 80 and > telnet images.yuku.com 80 it should look something like: telnet static.yuku.com 80 Trying 208.87.216.100... Connected to static.yuku.com. Escape character is '^]'. if it doesn't say "Connected", then you likely have a firewall or web filter blocking access to those sites. If it does connect, its might be a web proxy that isn't caching properly, or the firewall is doing some kind of packet inspection that doesn't like something in the code, or something at a much lower level. Of course, none of this is likely to help much, but it may be useful for the network admins if you want them to fix it.
  22. VLC works great for capturing streams. I've used it before to transcode MiLB streams to work on my phone, but it can also record to a file.
  23. hey guys i'm chef jerry garcia. today we're going to make some delicious piggly wiggly ramen noodles first we boil the water then we break the noodles apart just a little and then we put them in the water. then we add the flavor packet and MMMMM we have some delicious piggly wiggly ramen noodles. STOP.
  24. Maybe. The thing with trading the expiring is that we have to take back something in return. We can probably get a much better player back, but they will be under contract for a longer period. If we want to built through trades, that may be the way to go. Regarding the roster, cutting Walter Sharpe (who is out for the season anyway) is the obvious first choice. I think we might buy out Elson too. He would mostly likely sign elsewhere, so that would save us a little bit of cash too. That's all assuming we don't make any more trades, which would almost have to be 2+ out/1 in at this point.
