  1. You know, for a loss, that was a pretty encouraging game. Brandon Jennings is good at basketball.
  2. Bear with me here, I'm always overly optimistic at the start of all of my teams' seasons, but... I just can't see where all of the pessimism comes from, this team should definitely be better than last season. They won 34 games *without* their two best players. Since then, they've upgraded significantly at PF, and should be roughly the same production-wise at SF. We lost a very good PG, but he didn't even play half of the available minutes at the position. Our 08/09 roster was terrible, but still managed a somewhat respectable season. Look at the garbage we put out there: Gadzuric Elson Allen Croshere Alexander Bell Bogans Jones Lue Gill Only four of these players are still here, and most of them are going to be in the "DNP - Coach's decision" club. Our roster is almost entirely useful players now, the improvement in depth is insane. If everyone stays healthy (a big if, admittedly), there's no reason why the Bucks shouldn't be aiming for a 4th or 5th seed. No, I don't work for the Bucks' PR dept.
  3. Haven't dressed up in awhile, but my last few were: Mike Ditka (80s Bears sweater from ebay, clipboard, fake mustache) Mark Chmura (Chmura jersey and a bath towel) Rick Vaughn (late 80s Indians jersey from ebay, custom felt lettering glued on, zig-zag pattern shaved on the back of my head) One day, I'm going to dress up as Chewbacca if he played for the Brewers. One day.
  4. I think there's actually one bottling plant (in South Carolina IIRC) that still uses that recipe in normal Mountain Dew. I drink a Mountain Dew once every couple months or so. It always reminds me again why I hate it. I prefer Mountain Holler...much nicer looking can.
  5. Oh, I didn't mean just bending them! I'm talking all-out crease down the middle, for the pointy roof look. If I saw more of that, it would make me happy, at least. Also, make sure its a starter hat.
  6. I think more people should go with the folded brim, personally.
  7. Yeah...amidst all of the recession FUD, my 401k portfolio is up 31% YTD.
  8. I don't know anything about this vertical driver's license thing, but my first one just said "UNDER 21 UNTIL XXXXXXX" in big red letters across the top. I assume that this is the same idea. Anyway, I never had any issues with using that after I turned 21, FWIW.
  9. My theory is that cell phones interfere with peoples' need to use the $10/minute phones on the plane.
  10. Scott Podsednik was traded for Carlos Lee even after a bad season...you never know.
  11. The "sending the wrong message" thing does feel like the biggest issue to me. OTOH though, you could look at the message being sent as doing what is in the best interest of winning games at the Major League level. Blocking a top prospect by renting a veteran star for a playoff push might send a bad message to the rest of the farm system too, but I can see it both ways. That isn't to say that adding Jeffress to the 40-man roster is certain to help us win games, of course. It's just another decision to be made, and a tough one IMO. Honestly, I think that the chances of him getting caught again are pretty small, but if we have a spare roster spot that we don't know what to do with (unlikely), I'd probably add him.
  12. Chris Andersen was suspended for life (but reinstated after two years), though its unknown what he tested positive for...I've heard a lot speculation that it was for multiple marijuana positives. (edit: nm, looks like it wasn't that) Not sure if this has been answered, but if he's added to the 40-man, could he play again right away? Or at least at MLB-level? I doubt this will happen or even be in our best interest, but sticking him on the 25-man roster for a couple months if he does well in ST might be something to consider, if nothing else just to get the work in.
  13. Predicting that, if Favre ever does retire for real, he'll go in as a Brown so he can stick it to Eric Mangini. Regardless of whether or not he actually plays for them.
  14. Last season, I really liked Narveson and thought he might end up as DM's next big nugget. He had a bit of a disappointing 2008 so I kind of forgot about him, but he appears to be back on track now. He's certainly better than Suppan/Looper IMO. He hasn't done enough in the majors yet for me to think he's more than a #5 type, but that isn't to say he can't be better.
  15. Changing managers every season usually doesn't work out very well. The team has underperformed (or so we believe) under two different managers, so that kind of leads me to believe that the players are more to blame. There have been a lot of things I haven't liked about Macha, but I'd rather give him another year than make another change. Does anyone find it odd that this announcement is even a story though? He's under contract for next season, always has been. I kind of read these Haudricourt/McCalvey blog updates as "News Flash: Macha has not been fired yet".
  16. haha, I didn't even have to look it up to know who it was.
  17. The kicking team comes on. Its first down, and I can't believe it. ...its a fake!
  18. As opposed to rotting in the offseason doing nothing? Even if he doesn't pitch, there's no harm in having him on the roster, aside from having to pay him a little more for a couple weeks. But brewers.com does have him scheduled to start Friday.
  19. You're either making a play, or merely making a football move.
  20. Just to be clear, I was very much in favor of keeping Sessions, so this would have been my preference. But I don't think its that simple, and without knowing details of what negotiations took place, its hard for me to pass too much judgment...even though he was an RFA, he could still turn down our contract offers. All I'm saying is that a sign & trade might not have been better than nothing. Looking at Minnesota's roster, the only player (with matching salaries) that I would have taken back is Kevin Love, and I'm sure the Twolves would have laughed at us for asking about him. If re-signing Sessions was a realistic possibility, the only other explanation I can think of is that Hammond preferred to spend that money on depth. And to be fair to him, he didn't really have time to wait around forever and potentially start the season without a full roster.
  21. Do you think we could have gotten better talent than those players mentioned in a sign & trade involving Sessions? I doubt it, personally.
  22. I thought you were against adding salary/players? You can't have it both ways.
  23. I love the single table & promotion/relegation format, mostly because it ensures that every team has something to play for all of the time. Unfortunately, it wouldn't work well in the US for various reasons, the biggest IMO being geography and travel. I do think that this would work really well in arena football, though.
  24. In order to get something back though, we would have had to take on salary. Would it make people feel better if we did sign & trades of CV for Warrick and Sessions for Delfino/Ukic? That's probably about as much of a return as we could have hoped for anyway. This isn't the end of the world. How do we know Sessions didn't turn down an offer from us, and then Hammond only went for Warrick/Delfino/Ukic after that? And now we actually have a decent bench too! No more Josh Davises and Eddie Gills...instead, we actually have talented players to watch when half of our starters get injured at the same time.
