  1. Shouldn't this be considered a home-field advantage? If the Brewers' hitters don't like it, I'd bet the away hitters like it even less.
  2. What he's saying is that mental aspects of the game are a contributing factor in the physical events that occur. So if a guy is freaked out by pressure, and starts throwing balls, the stats count that. But I think you're both right...stats definitely account for all aspects of the game, including mental - what I think you're saying is that there isn't a stat that shows *just* the mental part, which is probably true. One guy might walk a lot of batters because he's afraid of pressure, another might walk a lot simply because he's not good enough. We do have situational splits, though, which can tell us some things.
  3. Ryan Anderson aka "The Little Unit". He actually attempted a comeback much later, and briefly pitched in the Brewers organization.
  4. If that's the 2003-04 old Doug Davis, where he was a borderline #1 starter, I'm all for it. But his numbers this season look a little smoke-and-mirrors to me. His Ks are down, HRs are up, BABIP very low.
  5. I highly doubt Adu would have ever been hyped very much if he began his career overseas. He still could be a good player, but he's been in Europe for a year and a half now and hasn't even started a game in the second-tier leagues he's played in.
  6. He makes a few McClouthesque "I'm too slow/can't read paths well enough to get to balls, but I make up for it by diving on what should be a routine play" type catches. But he's really a gold glove DH.
  7. Until Melvin says "I'm not motivated", I refuse to believe anything.
  8. The Dunkin' Dutchman.
  9. Isn't Jake Taylor Damian Miller coaching high school baseball now? Don't know if they're playing in spring or summer leagues, but you might be able to track him down at a game.
  10. I believe Screech also did a series of instructional chess videos. Doesn't he live in the Milwaukee area now?
  11. Same way everyone else does. Post quality content, sign up to get listed in things like google news. If you want to post about it on message boards, post a link to a specific article in an existing thread that is related to the discussion, but just signing up and saying "hay guys check out my site" is bad form. If people like it, they will check back or subscribe to your RSS feed. Other bloggers and sites will start linking to you, and your google search rankings will go up. So stick around, join the discussions here. If you feel that one of your articles might be relevant, then by all means, post a link.
  12. I had totally forgotten about Birdman until the Nuggets-Lakers playoff series. And then my first thought was "why do the Nuggets have a member of Linkin Park on their team?"
  13. 1) Most players in AAA are something other than first-time-around prospects, but not all of them hit over 1.000 OPS. So not necessarily. 2) IIRC, he asked for the move to AA. He wanted to work on his defense at SS, and wasn't going to get games at AAA with Escobar.
  14. I believe the OS is actually linux, but thats a big plus IMO. I had service from Sprint once before and always hated them, but to be honest I can't really remember why I hated them. One of my coworkers just got a Pre, so I'll let him be the guinea pig.
  15. Or Bobby Hill! Because he dives on routine plays.
  16. These are wolf shirts, people. Wolf shirts.
  17. What exactly told you this?
  18. I hope somebody tanks in order to draft him, and then he decides to go to college.
  19. Did you do any sort of speed/strength training in practice? Things like track work, intervals, hills, etc? I've seen a lot of coaches who don't do very much of this, but I always found it helpful to do something like this at least once or twice a week. Interestingly, I felt like my cross country coaches in high school did more for my overall speed/quickness than my "distance" coaches in track ever did...though I don't think the track coaches really knew what they were doing.
  20. I still think the Brewers are better than the Twins
  21. If I understand correctly, the best offer Sessions & CV would realistically get from another team is a MLE, which was around $5.5m this year. So that would leave $3m for Illyasova, and that might be doable.
  22. Keep an eye on the power usage. If you use it a lot, older ones can use so much electricity that its actually cheaper to buy a more expensive new one.
  23. Uninformed Twins fans? No way! Next thing you know, they're going to think that an offense based around little league hits constitues "playing the game the right way". I only wish Stetter had good enough control to be able to target a player's wrist. He'd be like Mariano Rivera Mark DiFelice and Billy Wagner COMBINED.
  24. I'd take Mauer/Morneau. But that's all, the rest of the Twins' lineup is terrible.
