  1. This isn't a bad idea. If the 5th starter is going to get skipped a bunch early on, the guys who don't get that spot could conceivably end up pitching more innings as relievers. In that case, using Suppan as the 5th starter might just be the way he hurts us the least.
  2. Well played, UW. I was really hoping for a late momentum shift after that SH goal and penalty kill, but Mitchell's goal wiped that away. I'd love to see a Wisconsin-Miami final, assuming the Ofohios win tonight.
  3. And far too much Gadz. I've never seen so many missed 0-footers in my life.
  4. If anybody has ESPN 360, the SCSU-NMU game is awesome. 3-3, almost done with the first OT. edit: wooooooo, SCSU wins, 23 seconds into the second OT. 1-8 in this dadgum tournament baby!!!!
  5. If we want to get into spring training stats, he did have 10 strikeouts to only 2 walks in those 7 innings. He probably would have been given more serious consideration if he were only competing against Stetter, but he was really competing with Parra and Narveson too. Therefore, he should blame Jeff Suppan for his release.
  6. I didn't know Cardinals hats were made out of tin foil.
  7. Maybe one of UW's mystery players will end up being good. I'm hoping its Wquinton Smith. Every time I see his name, I think its a typo.
  8. Ryan's refusal to change things for the sake of change are IMO what makes his teams successful - his system works most of the time, so if you stick to it all of the time, you win most of your games. Unfortunately, this also lends itself toward disappointment in knockout-style tournaments. If UW played Cornell in a best of five, I suspect they would win.
  9. I don't mean to imply that he won't be worth it, its just a matter of having too much of your budget tied up in one player, to a point that it becomes difficult to fill out a roster. The per-year dollars on this deal work out to be very close to what A-Rod got. Even the Red Sox tried to dump Manny Ramirez' contract by placing him on waivers, and he was making about $3m less per year than Mauer. Again, I'd tend to think that he'll end up earning the money, but teams much richer than the Twins have ended up regretting similar contracts in recent history.
  10. Does anybody else think this could easily end up like the A-Rod situation in Texas? FWIW, the Dallas area is almost twice as large as the Twin Cities. The Twins having a new stadium will help, but the Rangers weren't exactly hurting for attendance in the early 00's.
  11. Noooooooooooo!!!!! edit: not changing my avatar until its official.
  12. Hehe, glad I can be of service http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  13. His (Garrett Roe) injury ended up being just a stiff neck, was a game time decision not to play in the WCHA final. Coach said he expects him back next weekend. That all said, we're still 0-forever in the NCAA tournament...you might be better off worrying about Northern Michigan.
  14. Its basketball and not quite the same issue, but Dejuan Blair has no ACLs in his knees. They deteriorated gradually, and supposedly, his body just got used to not having them.
  15. Here ya go If they hold on, they potentially knock DU out of #1 overall, but are pretty much locked into the 3rd #1 seed. Denver still has a big edge in RPI, record v top 25, and record v common opponents.
  16. You seem to think that Suppan is above replacement level, or maybe even above average. You're probably the only one who feels that way, and that's why people are arguing with you. I'd bet that 90% of this forum feel that Suppan is below replacement level - by definition, that means that any AAA scrub will be better. So based on everyone else's opinion of Suppan, even though nobody has "proven" themselves to be better (only due to not having had a chance, nothing else), there are a ton of guys who most likely are.
  17. Here's a P-P-P-Powerbook recap and the original somethingawful thread.
  18. Still, Suppan being on the roster most likely hurts the team. If the extra $300k is too much, you at least have to minimize the damage and banish Suppan to long relief.
  19. That could be, though its impossible to say how that money would get reallocated. It could very well be that ownership tells the GM, "here is this year's budget for player salaries, use it or lose it", and then Kohl uses whatever is left over to buy campaign ads or something.
  20. Great fit for the Brewers. With Helfaer Field right in the parking lot, he'll never be late for work.
  21. I have little doubt we would be able to get $12.5m worth of pitching out of Parra or Narveson before they hit free agency. Letting one of these guys go just so we can get negative value out of Suppan is pure KC Royals garbage, and makes no sense at all. The money is already spent, why keep him around if its going to hurt the team? If Suppan really is our 5th best starting pitcher, keep him in the rotation. If he's not, but he's still our 12th best overall pitcher, keep him on mop-up duty. If he's not even that, just get rid of him, that's what good teams do. The Yankees didn't win the World Series by keeping Kei Igawa on the active roster for no good reason.
  22. http://antennaweb.org is a good site for things like this too - enter in your address, and it will tell you what kind of antenna you need.
  23. As long as we're not hitting the luxury tax threshold, why should we care? Its Herb Kohl's money. If he wants to spend another 100k or so, I'm not going to tell him he can't. Its not like its taking away from a pool of money that could be spent on a better player.
  24. FWIW, Johnson is not playing for Sioux Falls tonight. And Joe Krabbenhoft is, just back from a stint in the Korean league.
