  1. Don't ignore Freddy Peralta. Terrific stuff, terrific prospect.
  2. Then again, if the Brewers are bullish on him, they won't have a shot at him next year because if he performs and given how the Brewers are playing, he might well be gone before they pick in the first round in '18. It might be a worthwhile risk, given where he could be a year from now. Isn't there some pretty serious durability concerns for a player who had a stress fracture in his back?
  3. Can Keston Hiura really play 2nd base? What makes Pavin any different than his Virginia teammate last year, Matt Thaiss? Thaiss had just 16 strikeouts last year, and identical overall numbers. I don't think anyone would be all that excited to have Thaiss right now. Thanks in advance!
  4. They both have an OPS around . 750 in a pitcher favored league and Clark gets on base at a .368 clip. Neither is setting the world on fire but badly underperforming is overstating it. They may have brought their numbers up recently. But in three years in the system, Clark has underperformed relative to where he was drafted. He does not project to be as good as Santana, Broxton, Brinson, Phillips or Cordell. How does Clark not project as well as Brinson, Broxton, Phillips or Cordell? At this point in their 20 year old seasons, Brinson, Broxton, and Phillips were all still in A ball, Clark is in A+. Cordell was having a mediocre sophomore season in college. I can understand being underwhelmed with Ray, as he's 26 months older than Clark and only a few months younger than Brinson and Phillips, but Clark is someone we should be really excited about as he continues to improve despite being really challenged.
  5. I think it's important to remember that Trent Clark is 2 years and 2 months younger than Corey Ray, and Ray is just 4 months younger than Brinson and Phillips. I'd like to add Freddy Peralta to the surging list. His strike out ability is unreal.
  6. Hader needs to build up his innings, not limit them. Huge difference between him and Price. Price was dominating the minors, Hader has struggled at AAA.
  7. Let Hader develop in AAA, hopefully he can become a big league caliber starter someday. This bullpen already got the major addition it needed in Peralta. He was down right awesome yesterday. The pen is full. When we reach July we finally start to have a normal amount of off days, then we'll be able to go back to a 7 man pen.
  8. Do you think the Brewers will option Arcia in favor of Sogard?! I need to double quote this to emphasize it. I know you are just creating conversation ... but optioning Arcia to keep Sogard is stuff of soon to be fired GMs. Sogard and Nick Franklin are the same player. One of them can go and given Sogard's revival it will be Franklin. Arcia wasn't even a good AAA hitter, if they send him there, it wouldn't be a bad move at all. It's for his development. They're not cutting him
  9. I don't understand it either. Anderson is total snooze. Let the national broadcasts have him. Actually, no, he's brutal on NBA playoffs too.
  10. Brewers now 13th in the majors in pitching. Not a bad pitching staff at all. The staff was 3rd in the majors after the break last year. I'd expect continued improvement.
  11. That's just a function of the Brewers playing more games than other teams. Scheduling quirk combined with fewer rainouts. The Brewers have played 5 more games than some teams. If you want an accurate measuring stick of where we stand pitching wise, I'd suggest looking at ERA or more advanced metrics, not runs allowed.
  12. One of the worst Brewers bullpens ever assembled? It's actually a pretty good bullpen, 10th in the majors in ERA.
  13. A lot of pitching rich teams find arms on the international market, and the Brewers have been almost non-existant there throughout their history. The problem reached its low point when Melvin closed our Dominican Academy. We're still trying to re-establish our organization in Latin America.
  14. Bottom 5 pitching? The Brewers are 15th in the majors in team ERA, and have never been in the bottom 5 all year. They've done that without their opening day starter.
  15. I'd like the Brewers be both buyers and sellers at the deadline. The A's have done that before, why not us?
  16. He also allowed 2 of Peralta's runners to score and didn't record a single strikeout. It was really disappointing for a pitcher with his stuff.
  17. Peralta to the bullpen is obvious and necessary. In 2011, Houston moved a similar pitcher, Brett Myers, from starter to closer, at about this time of year. He was dealt for 3 PTBNL after the season. One of those turned out to be Chris Devenski, the high leverage reliever for Houston now. I'm sure Sterns is very aware of that move.
  18. Its too bad Marinez completely lost his command. It seemed like his fastball was moving more than ever, to his detriment. With him showing no sign of getting back to the pitcher he was, it was time to move on. Smart to add a pitcher we can option, as it looks like Peralta will be moving to the bullpen where he belongs soon. Suter can go back down when Guerra is activated, assuming everyone is healthy.
  19. Hold on to good players and try to win? What a radical idea! That sounds like what Doug Melvin did, and that failed pretty consistently. I love how Sterns has traded good players to open spots for better players. That said, I think I would wait to deal a catcher. While I believe both are actually good, I think they're still both building their league wide reputations. Waiting allows Susac, Heineman, and Houle time to develop.
  20. Javier Betancourt suddenly surging, with 3 doubles tonight. He was given a few days off a week and a half ago, and has responded by hitting .444 in 8 games since. He just turned 22 earlier in the week.
  21. I agree that Wily would be too expensive as a middle reliever, but what if he was a closer? Teams pay closers well. Peralta moves to the pen and gets comfortable in June, and then takes over the closer rolls after Feliz is dealt. 2 months of closing seemed to add a lot of value to Thornburg, I think it could make Peralta a somewhat of a valued trade peice too. I do think Wily would be a lights out reliever.
  22. Hopefully we'd get Brandon Woodruff back in the deal, as he's exactly what we need. He's a MLB ready, hardthrowing, healthy, strikeoutout pitcher who limits the longball and is cost controlled longterm.
  23. I like this. I agree. I'd love Bukauskus or Wright but any chance with those two are fading hard. Faedo has proven himself over time, and has considerable arm talent. I agree that there's a ton to like about Faedo, but the knee issues give me serious concerns. Double knee surgery at age 21? You could see how that effected him early in the season. Now how can we bank on the knee's not being a problem going forward if they're both already a problem at 21? He's an outstanding pitcher, but he comes with even more injury risk than most pitchers.
  24. The bullpen is 11th in the majors in ERA. Everyone except Torres is trending in the right direction. Obviously they need to walk fewer batters, but that is trending better right now too. It's great to see Barnes and Marinez back on track, as they're 2 important long term power arms for the pen. The bullpen is the least of our problems, we're 19th in OBA, and that isn't trending upward.
