  1. They won't keep Drake once Jennings is activated. That way they can hold on to both Choi and Aguilar until Woodruff leaves pen duty at which time they can add Hoover to the roster. After yesterday's 12 inning game, the team already needs bullpen re-inforcements.
  2. The team is dumpster diving the day before the opener to backfill its LOOGY spot (due to injury) with another team's castoff. What the heck are you looking for? Jennings has been a useful role player in his career, and is going to come cheap. I don't think anyone is implying that they just picked up Andrew Miller. I'm not looking for anything. Simply pointing out that he really was quite bad last year and nothing special before that. I think you looked up the wrong player. Jennings has always been an above average reliever. He's an upgrade from Boone Logan.
  3. Some surprises on the opening day roster, but I think we can all take solace in the fact that none of these moves will turn out as disastrous and senseless as cutting Scooter Gennet to keep Kirk freaking Nieuwenhuis.
  4. Tyler Webb is clearly not in the team's plans. When's the last time a 27 year old 40 man roster player only got 2 innings of work in spring training with the big club? He'll be dropped whenever we need a spot.
  5. Yep, DFA Drake to open the 40-man spot for Jennings, and send down Choi for Williams after tomorrow's game. Then make another pen move (Hoover?) when Woodruff moves into the rotation. Probably, but there's a decent chance Choi lasts longer. With an off day on day 4 of the season, no reason for extra relievers, unless we get a short outing from a starter. I agree that Jennings should replace Drake.
  6. I mentioned weeks ago that even though we still eventually be a13 pitcher team, there was no reason to keep that many opening day. I love what Stearns did. Extra pinch hitters for opening day, and then re-evauate.
  7. Well, let's say JJ Hoover gets the last bullpen spot. Since it's extremely unlikely Hoover would be needed in the opener with 7 other relievers available, it would make more sense to carry Choi an extra day, and then re-evaluate.
  8. That's fair. This is definitely related to the outfield log-jam though, and started with a conversation about wanting to give Phillips more of a chance. Signing Cain after they acquired Yelich was a pretty big surprise and many here still question it. It's fair to be for or against the signing and for or against trading him if they stumble, but acting like trading him is some kind of taboo under the circumstances is zealously conservative. Fair enough. I don't see an OF log jam. Being a life long Brewers fan has conditioned me to prepare for an inevitable crushing OF injury. I'm so unbelievably relieved that the replacement this year isn't David Hulse. I've always thought that to be a contender you needed MLB quality players at the AAA level. Phillips goes that mold, and still has work to do at the plate. I'm interested in these final Brewers roster moves, simply because it feels like someone outside the organization will be on the roster.
  9. Dang, I keep clicking on this thread thinking there would be some 25 man roster discussion.
  10. Yelich will only get about one off day a month and they're not paying Cain $80 million over 4 years to sit once a week, at least not this year. Yelich will start 155 games and Cain 150. Cain has played over 140 games just one in his career. Depth behind him is important.
  11. Thank God Johnson convinced Stearns to turn nothing into Travis Shaw and sign Eric Thomas... masterful work by the pitching coach there... And trading for Domingo Santana, just brilliant moves by Johnson... Gotta agree here. I'm not sure what point is trying to be made by the OP but that makes absolutely no sense to me. Santana was already here, and the Brewers already had numerous good offense players when Stearns took the reigns. The Brewers were just 19th in runs scored last year, but were 9th in pitching. I'm not bashing on Stearns though, it was his outside the box idea to bring in Johnson.
  12. I like the organizational philosophy of letting Derrick Johnson build the pitching staff and using the rest of the assets on improving the offense and defense. Johnson's work has been basically the only reason we believe in Stearns and had a successful season last year.

  15. He might get his entire salary. Sounds like there is trade possibilities. The team mentioned the desire for roster flexibility. This tells me Williams, who could be optioned later, gets the last spot for now.
  16. It annoys me how hard Brandon Woodruff is trying get sent to Colorado Springs. Giving up a double to the pitcher today might seal his fate. Was really hoping for him to claim the 5th starter spot today.

  18. Or their love for Suter is warranted and the rotation is good already this year, and in great shape going forward.
  19. Last thing first, who is Nelson the 3.1 ERA horse? Nelson has never had a 3.1 ERA, and it's hard to call a guy a horse who has just 4 career WAR. Now Suter. I'm amazed at this group that is clinging to this idea that he can't work late into games just because of some numbers last year that were obviously skewed by a shoulder injury that he suffered trying to stretch out mid year after bullpen duty. Keep Suter in the rotation this year, and enjoy the re- incarnation of Mark Buerle. How many realize that Buerle had 15 season where his average fastball was under 86 mph?
  20. I wanted to sign Zack Cozart to play 2B. As another already said, finish the Braun deal with the Dodgers 2 years ago.
  21. Yeah Abad would work, he's probably better than Boone anyway. Hard to believe he'll be out of work long. Or just go with one lefty. Most of our right handed relievers can get lefties out anyway.
  22. Yeah, it would seem more plausible to just ask for a great outing tonight from Suter, and a good outing from Woodruff next time out. I think Miley will need to do something amazing to get a job. I think the Crew really likes Suter and Woodruff.
  23. I'm not at all concerned we didn't add Cobb because I believe Suter is Mark Buerle or at least a large fraction of him.
  24. No. He's not better than what we already have, and the Nationals need him. Hellickson only signed a minor league deal.
