  1. Whether he makes it as a starter will have nothing to do with his height, it will be determined by his change-up and fastball command. There is few short RHSP simply because there is few short pro RHP overall. Very few pitchers that size have plus velocity. Its pretty amazing to me to read that Thornberg was moved to the mound from RF mid-inning without warm-ups 18 times. That can't be good for a pitchers command.
  2. Actually, the injury occurred only after the Brewers backed off some of the mechanical changes Rogers was struggling with. He has taken to improved mechanics now, injury doesn't seem to be a major issue anymore. I agree with you that where he's at now at his age is extremely impressive. He has the experience level of a 21-22 year old player. Rogers age should have an * by it because of the time he's missed. He has pitched just 281 innings in the minors. Yovanni Gallardo had 380 before he made his MLB debut as a 21 year old.
  3. Rogers has only allowed 3 homers this year in 117 innings. That stat jumps out and punches me in the face. When you combine that with his K rate, average against, and groundball ratio, it shows a pitcher that is almost unhittable.
  4. Well, in his defense, he did say 7 years/$120 million. I was thinking 5 years $130 million, so in his scenario, we could just cut Lee if he became in-effective, and treat the money like deferred payments. However, Lee won't except that deal. There is much better FA buys in position players this offseason, but not every team that needs a hitter can afford to sign Werth, Crawford, or Beltre. The Brewers can, so they need to deal a 2nd position player to take advantage of that. I'd rather have the pitcher we get for McGehee and Werth or Beltre than McGehee and Westbrook. Oakland is a team that could use McGehee, and they have the 2nd best team ERA in the majors.
  5. So the only reason to worry about it is because of suspension? It has no impact on the rest of his life? He is getting help, and thats a rather cold thing to say. After getting help, he decided the sense of urgency of needing to be ready each day would help keep him clean. I think the Brewers should continue to respect his wishes a little longer. You can't see us getting a good pitcher for Fielder? You don't think we could deal a 2nd position player, like McGehee or Weeks, for a quality pitcher? I don't care about the FA pitcher market past Lee, we should deal position players, and then sign 1. Teams will like the affordability of the guys we can deal.
  6. So the people in Wisconsin are younger and make more money than people in other states? I'd really like to see the stats behind this assertion. I've read countless stories about the "brain drain" here, as our best and brightest are leaving the state to find work because salaries in WI are comparatively low. And I grew up in Racine, a city that relied heavily on manufacturing and sadly is on the decline. Attanosio has stated one of the reasons the Brewers were attractive was that demographically they were a larger market, in the 10th to 12th range.
  7. He spends more money than previous owners? He hasn't spent a dime of his own money since buying the team. They've been able to raise the payroll because we built Miller Park, and Wisconson demographically is a great baseball state. The people here are the right age and in the right financial standing to make a baseball team profitable, which is why Attanosio bought the team. it has helped the teams profitability that he's a far more like-able personality than the Seligs.
  8. He said the same thing last year, but they ended up making money. Since he made the most recent statement, they already saved $2 million by not signing their 1st round draft pick. Forbes has the Brewers as one of the most profitable teams in baseball on a yearly basis.
  9. Rogers is at 117 innings, with at least 1 start coming, maybe 2. He already at a 53 inning increase from last year, and is as strong as ever. Continue to monitor his pitch count next year, and start him at AAA, but his number of starts for next year is of no concern. He could easily finish next season in the Brewers rotation, right into the postseason. Jeffress is a different situation. He requested to relieve because he believes it helps him stay clean. Why is protecting his arm a concern, but not his mental health? Shame on the Brewers if they move him back to starting. Its pretty sad if they put the needs of the organization ahead of helping this young man stay clean. Maybe in a few years, but not now. Also, Jeffress, unlike Rogers, needs significant development to become a starting pitcher. We have plenty of pitching prospects who will be ready by the time he's ready to start in the bigs. Pretty sure the only guy in that group who will even be in the organization is Narveson. Next years rotation has a chance to be very good, simply because the Brewers have the resources to add at least 2 quality pitchers. Do you really think their going to keep Fielder, let Gamel rot, and slash the payroll by $20 million?

  11. We're comparing Braun to Yount now? Braun has never had a 5 WAR season. Yount was 10.5 WAR in 82, and was over 5 WAR 5 other times, 3 of those times over 6. Myself, like Logan, wishes Braun didn't suck on defense.
  12. I agree, but I don't tink Tampa agrees. They lack power because they prefer small ball, ans hitting to contact. I continue to think Texas and Toronto make the most sense.
  13. Plus, we have the money to do both, or to sign a bigtime FA bat.
  14. Hats off to the designer, Grady Phelan. A simple, but revolutionary idea. I love anything that protects our players from hamate injuries. If it protects a few fans from flying bats, even better.
  15. Wegman Bosio, Plesac and Nieves all came up together, and were rookies in 1986. Dang that's a long time. No wonder we suck. Was there 1 more rook with them I'm forgetting? Either way, this class could be better.
  16. Melvin runs the draft now too? No wonder he's so awful in free agency, he's just spread too thin. I will give Melvin credit for the 2 Indy League pick-ups. They'll both be very important to this team going forward. Thats a more efficient way to stock a bullpen than signing over the hill FA relievers to multi-year deals. Awesome to see 2 HS 1st round draft pick pitchers blowing heat past MLB hitters. Now hopefully the Brewers can put that stigma to bed. This team has 6 of its own 1st round draft picks in its team. How many teams can say that? Jack Z just did a wonderful job biulding this organization.
  17. Great to see Macha get these young pitchers some work, and great to see Macha is willing to give Rogers a start. What did the rest of you think of Rogers delivery? To me, it was better than I expected. Not as free and easy as Jeffress, but who's is? I didn't think throwing across the body was too much of an issue, and very little effort to it. Is Rogers another Justin Verlander?
  18. This is funny too. Are you really telling me the 8 inning increase Rivas had this year over last year has caused the Brewers to decide to shut him down? 8 innings? Try again. Melvin himself stated they weren't bringing up Rivas because of this. Stating that the Brewers do not believe in monitoring a pitchers innings and having them shut down for the year is asinine. Obviously they don't do it for every player in Rogers case but it is something that the Brewers consider and it is done on a case by case basis. We're talking about a jump in innings from year to year. Rivas jumped just 8 innings this year. Melvin saying Rivas isn't coming up because of his workload was his nice way of saying they don't think as highly of Rivas as they do of Rogers. It has nothing to do with his workload. If he can't handle more than 140 innings at this point in his career, then he's destined to be a career reliever, and I don't think thats the case, at least not based on his durability.
  19. The idea behind the inning increase theory is the increase from year to year. What a player did several years earlier is irrelevant. Its a shoulder, not a car, you don't just break it in and then its good forever. Once a player pitches less the shoulder needs to be re-strengthened, according to the theory. Myself, I think every pitcher is an individual, and as long as pitch counts are adhered to, all the necessary precaution have been taken, when dealing with matured players. We're not talking about 20 years olds here.
  20. Ed Sedar is in charge of our OF defense. Braun sure doesn't show Mr. Sedar much respect with his effortless, uncaring approach to defense. With Braun and Hart's continual defensive regression, I'm guessing Sedar is the 1st person fired/re-assigned this offseason.
  21. He missed over 2 years. You don't just pick up where you left off after 2 shoulder surgeries. Wilson is doing the same thing Ryan Dempster did a few years ago. When is that going to catch up to him? Wilson has actually gotten better as the season wears on. Since the all-star break he has a 2.67 ERA with 63 K in 64 innings. Thats an awesome K rate for a starter.
  22. I guess people from northern Wisconsin aren't all that MLB knowledgeable either.
  23. That's funny. You conveniently left out a few years there. Rogers jumped from 64 innings last year to 116 and counting this year. Thats a 52 inning increase, and he's not even done yet. This is funny too. Are you really telling me the 8 inning increase Rivas had this year over last year has caused the Brewers to decide to shut him down? 8 innings? Try again.
  24. Exhibit A: Mark Rogers. I don't need to go any further.
  25. That would be terrible. One year of a guy who isn't even an ace and whose innings jumped by a tremendous amount this year. . Wilson has a 3.10 ERA despite pitching his home games in the best hitters park in the AL. He's more WAR this year than Fielder. The innings jump risk is a completely unproven theory. I don't believe in it, and niether do the Brewers. On a team with excess position players that is desperate for pitching, you keep Fielder and take the picks instead of trading for an equal value pitcher who you would get the same picks for if you couldn't extend him? I don't think that is a sound plan.
