  1. Gomez doesn't fit the Rays because: 1. He's struggling, why would a contender want to add a replacement level player? 2. They want to deal Upton to open a spot for top CF prospect Desmond Jennings. Edmonds would fit them well, to give them a veteran backup CF who could shield Jennings from tough RH pitchers, and could give them depth in the corner OF. I agree that Bush doesn't fit Tampa, but I think Riske would help them. The return for Fielder, Riske, and Edmonds should be substantial, but Tampa has the minor league pitching depth to do it.
  2. Personal observation, I've seem him play numerous times the last 2 years, and pre-draft testing. He finished top in athletic testing at the Area Code games, which included numerous 1st round picks who are considered top athletes. Comments from his coaches. I said he should be 19 spots higher, which still has him behind Gennet, so I don't know why you even mention Gennett. My only mention of Gennett was disagreeing with Al's idea that Gennett belongs in the top 5.
  3. I guess this shows why WAR is stupid. I would say the same about someone who can't understand simple math.
  4. There really wasn't a reason to begin the year. Edmonds has been 1 of the best 4th OF s in baseball this year. He's been 1.3 WAR,which is better than Braun. With the dearth of quality OFs in baseball this year, Edmonds has been one of the few things that have gone right.
  5. Rating a preospect on stats alone would be sloppy and haphazard. Gennet has been great, but physical tools will be tested at higher levels. He is in the proper spot. My only complaint would be that Cutter Dykstra is 19 spots too low. His solid and constantly improving production combined with his explosive body and work ethic make him a future MLB 2B.
  6. They have a top 1B prospect, Freddie Freeman, playing in AAA. He having a good, but not great season, but he's young.
  7. Moore pitched pretty well, but was beaten by Brevard County tonight. He lowered his ERA to 4.64.
  8. So you cherry pick his worst months, while playing injured, and he still has an OPS over 700 in part time duty, while playing the best defense of any of our OFs, and you tell he hasn't been good. I can't agree with that. He's not great, but he fills his role very well. He has a OPS over 900 in July, now that he's healthy again. Edmonds looks good on defense because he is to slow to get to most balls in the outfield and he doesn't drop balls. Lets not forget that Edmonds hits with the platoon advantage most of the time. If Edmonds was too slow to get to balls, he would have a below average UZR, but he doesn't. Its funny how dismissive you are of UZR when it hurts your argument. As for hitting with platoon advantage, I'll say he's at least taking advantage of it. Gomez's has seen limited ABs against tough righthanders because of Edmonds, yet he hasn't taken advantage of that. No one is saying Edmonds should play fulltime, but he's been a very good role player.
  9. Whats his career UZR as a Brewer? If Fielder had a 700 OPS this year and I said he has hit poorly this year would I be wrong? I have never once said Gomez is a bad defender, so why are you arguing that? I said he's played poorly defensively as a Brewer, and to argue otherwise is indefensible. Sometimes players don't maintain defense over their careers. McGehee was claimed largely because of his defensive abilities, and he has proven to be a poor defender also.
  10. If you have something to say about Fielder, we're waiting, no one is stopping you. And you can drop the B.S. about me saying his defense is "terrible" or provide a quote to that, because I've never said that. There hasn't been any Fielder news, and I think that's a big mistake on Tampa's part. He's perfect for them in every way. He would boost their offense, he wouldn't hurt their defense as a DH, and he would help their pathetic attendance. I guess they're content watching the playoffs and losing money.
  11. Like throwing to the wrong base or missing the cutoff man.
  12. That's a good article on Scarpetta. Its a relief any time we see evidence of our pitching coaches helping develop a pitcher.
  13. True, but Gomez has had numerous misplays that aren't factored into his UZR, so I will stick with my original statement that he's played poorly defensively as a Brewer.

  15. Few= 50. Got it. Why are last years stats relevent? He only started 86 games. Thats barely more than a "few". In 36 more starts Gomez's stats are still going to look disappointing. I'm not sure how previous seasons stats affect the fact that he has done exactly what I've said he's done, which is he has played poorly as a Brewer. And stop saying he just needs a few more balls hit to the gap to even out his stats. The Brewers pitching has been horrible, there's been more than enough tough chances. Playing behind bad pitching has exposed Gomez, not hindered him. Playing with poor defensive OFs has exposed him as well.
  16. No, I think your personal observations are flawed. UZR may not be perfect but it is far and away better than any one fan's observations. I'm not sure what your saying here. Gomez has a below average UZR as a Brewer. My original statement was Gomez has not played well defensively as a Brewer. This year alone, half of the leagues CFs have outplayed Gomez defensively, and thats not my personal observation. I also think UZR isn't telling us how bad Gomez has been as a Brewer, because it doesn't account for constantly throwing to thw rong base or missing wide of the cutoff man by 20 feet.
  17. Gomes also has a below average UZR, so he not earning it with his glove either. Sadly, Gomez has been even worse than his UZR suggests, because it doesn't account for Gomez constantly throwing to the wrong base or throwing 20 feet wide of the cutoff man. Gomez is just bad. He wasn't a good minor leaguer, and had no business ever being promoted to the majors. He needs to start over at AA. Maybe in 4 years he'll turn the corner, similar to Jose Guillen. Guillen was rushed to the majors at age 21 like Gomez, sucked for 3 years like Gomez, and then bounced around for 3 more. He eventually broke out at age 27. To bad that's way to far off for us to keep wasting time on Gomez. The Twins really ruined this guys career.
  18. K rate can be used as a predictor, but K/BB might be slightly better. Davis had a terrific K rate (over 10/9 innings) in the FSL, and Moore's is even better. However, Davis K'd almost twice as many per BB as Moore is. Years ago Gallardo and Mark Rogers were 1 and 2 in K rate in the minors, but Gallardo also had a great K/BB ratio, where Rogers rate looked more like Moore's.
  19. X, I'm guessing you see this as a pattern, rather than a single instance that sticks in the mind. Gomez did hold a runner on third, due to respect for his cannon on a FB that would have scored against Edmonds or even Cam, IMO. So, his bobble might have given up a run in a vacuum, but that respect for his arm saved a run in a vacuum. [The run did score from third eventually, though through a single, something not directly effected by Gomez, just as the runner on second who scored on his bobble wasn't placed there by Gomez.] That's a push, to me, which might not be "average," though. Lets not forget that he missed a cutoffman by 20 feet on a play they should have had an excellent chance of getting the runner at the plate. Cannon arms don't help if the fielder has a baseball IQ of a little leaguer. As for the flyball where the runner held at 3rd, it was a shallow flyball, the runners holds for any CF not named Pierre.
  20. After last nights dreadful defensive performance, I think Gomez put the nail in his coffin. I'm guessing Cain gets the start tonight, and its Gomez that gets sent down when they activate Yo.
  21. Its tough to determine Bush's value, because there hasn't been many pitchers his caliber traded the last few years. The top guys have been traded, and thats it.
  22. Where is the list you talked about? Gomez has played below average defense for the Brewers. I've watched baseball for almost 30 years. You really think I haven't watched 100 guys play average defense?
  23. Pretty brutal night for the greatest CF you've ever seen. More butcher jobs and clueless throws tonight. Those who claim his UZR will recover with playing time didn't get any help with that argument tonight. This guy plays completely out of control.
  24. True, but kind of a non-issue as Cain will be starting in CF next year. As I right this Gomez makes another bad play defensively that costs the Brewers a run. I should say Cain will be starting in CF next week.
  25. Yes, because by stating he might repeat A+ I was clearly implying he might as well pick up a job application at Mcdonalds because his baseball career is at a deadend.
