  1. Exactly. I've really had enough of the Suppans, Loopers, and Davis's,
  2. Tough ending for Morrow. Hill had a tough play to make for the final out, but it was possible. I was shocked Morrow was pulled after that. He was left in the game to get the final out, finishing with 137 pitchers, 17 K's. I sure I am glad Melvin was asleep at the wheel this past offseason while Morrow was traded for Brandon League.
  3. The Jays do have alot of pitching, and they would make sense for a Fielder trade. Ricky Romero is a strikeout pitcher who could may the main piece of the package. Brandon Morrow is another guy I still want, though it would take more to get him now than this past offseason, when he was dealt for Brandon League while Melvin was asleep at the wheel. Or maybe Doug was to busy giving Latroy Hawkins and Doug Davis millions that day.
  4. We could be watching the entire rotation of the future today.
  5. "This year, we have challenges," Attanasio said in a lengthy phone interview from his Los Angeles office about his team, the Milwaukee Brewers. "We know what they are. It's pitching, period. Really Mark? You mean to tell me you have no idea that this team is very poor defensively, and that the good teams are all good defensively? Very disappointing. Pitching is part of the problem, but not the only problem. This means the last 2 years will continue into eternity. Its hopeless until Mark fires Melvin and brings in a GM who understands defense, and can explain the importance of it to Attanosio.
  6. Z didn't land pitching because he rarely drafted it, the best players available when he selected were hitters. In the 6 years from 2000-2005, Z only 9 picks in the 1st 2 rounds, and only used 3 of them on pitchers. They were Jones, Rogers, and Gallardo. Rogers still could be an outstanding pitcher. Of the 7 hitters, 6 made it to the majors, 5 are starters, and 4 had outstanding seasons as Brewers. Compare that to the success rate of other teams (only about %50 of 1st rounders make the majors, and its worse for 2nd rounders) and you quickly realize why Z is now a GM.
  7. Thats incorrect.Hart Hardy, Fielder and Parra were all drafted by Z in his 1st 3 drafts with the Brewers just before Melvin arrived. I do agree that the Bando regime was awful.
  8. The system had Bill Hall, Cory Hart, JJ Hardy, and Prince Fielder. It wasn't barren. The big league team was awful, but the re-build was off to a good start before Melvin took over. Lets not forget that Melvin minimized the impact of Hardy by rushing him to the majors while he was recovering from shoulder surgery, and then later dealt him early in the off-season for a terrible player. Jeffress wasn't a bad pick, despite your opinions of him. You would have released him already, which will likely prove to be a disasterous descision, as he's close to becoming a dominant MLB late inning pitcher.
  9. Yet just like with Carlos Gomez you'll tell me that a partial season of UZR is useless and that Rasmus is playing great defense as always and that I know nothing about UZR right? Carlos Gomez has a career UZR/150 of 13.5 over about 2660 innings in CF. Colby Rasmus has a career UZR/150 of 4.6 over about 1720 in CF. I would say Rasmus is about average and Gomez is above average. Both players numbers are down this year because both players have defended poorly. Now, this isn't meant to be an indicator of future success, but the results have been correctly reported by UZR is both cases.
  10. The Scouting Director is also in charge of international signings. The Brewers have done poor in this area, in large part because of Melvins descision to close the Brewers DR academy to save money so it could be shifted to Major League payroll.
  11. No, I don't think you can say that, because I'm not sure you can say recent drafts should already have supplied top quality MLB pitching. Rogers and Jeffress could make their MLB debuts this Septemember. Jones was the only highly drafted pitcher Z selected that didn't turn out so far, and that was in large part because of Melvins hand picked development team didn't help a pitcher with a sound delivery avoid injury. Also, lets not forget that Z outdrafted his counterparts despite the fact that he had fewer draft picks because of selections given away to sign Jose Hernandez, Damian Miller, and Jeff Suppan.
  12. Didn't Sandy Alderson retire once too? That's a better option than hiring guys that were fired, like Melvin and DePodesta.
  13. Our drafting under Jack Z was awesome. Z drafted as much, or more, talent than anyone in those 8 years. The reason the Brewers suck is Melvin invested half his payroll in a group of players that are replacement level! Melvin's beyond abysmal record in free agency has reached historic proportions. The only thing this team has going for it is the talent Z drafted. If the Brewers have too many poor defenders, wouldn't it be the GM's job to make a trade to balance the team? He didn't, which has been another colossal error by Melvin. Melvin stated repeatedly that the scouting director's job is to get the most talent talent possible, so how can you possibly blame Z for following his GM's orders? To say our drafting has been poor overall is so devoid of fact its laughable. Z drafted an Ace pitcher and numerous All-Star position players. BaseballAmerica, Keith Law, Sickel's, Perfect Game are all in agreement that the Brewers have done an awesome job amassing talent since 2000. Melvin has done an epically bad job squandering it.
  14. Why hire DePodesta when there is a dominant GM available, and he's living in the area already. Terry Ryan needs to be the next GM of the Milwaukee Brewers.
  15. Yet just like with Carlos Gomez you'll tell me that a partial season of UZR is useless and that Rasmus is playing great defense as always and that I know nothing about UZR right?
  16. Stetter has completely lost it, he has better odds of going to AA than the majors. Very disappointing. Nashville has a few more relievers worth a look. Mike McClendon and Donovan Hand could get a look. The team always adds a 3rd catcher, though none of the minor league catchers look worthy. It would proably be Martin Maldonado.
  17. I'm pleasantly surprised by the length of Hart's deal. It looks like the public announcement of Gamel working in RF, and his 1 start there really provided the Brewers with some much needed leverage.
  18. If we have too much pitching in 2012, why are you majorly rushing Jake Odorizzi? He won't have pitched a AAA game by 2012. Loney is awful, he is barely above replacement level, and will be grossly overpaid. That Prince trade is awful. Kyle Russel is 2 years older than Caleb Gindl, and has just a 605 OPS in the same league. Taylor Green would be barely above replacement level at 3B, and Gamel will be a terrible defense OF. I see a 70 win team, if Pineda develops as we both hope he will. I guess that better than the 60 win team they'd be in 2011.
  19. Thats a simple, and realistic plan that would improve the Brewers to at least a winning team, without risking anything towards the future. Nolasco makes alot of sense, as he's becoming expensive for Florida, they have 4 other quality starters, they have youngsters who could replace Nolasco, and they need a cheap 3B. The lack of progress by 3B prospect Matt Dominguez really hurts them. Your team will be even better than that, as you forgot Todd Coffey.
  20. SF uses Travis Ishikara at 1B much of the time. Needless to say, they'll be adding a 1B or OF before the deadline. SF didn't add a bat. Needless to say, you should stop using the phrase "needless to say".
  21. Makes me wonder what this was all about since he never got traded...... I think someone saw Joe Martinez and mistook him for Sanchez.
  22. Hart is still unlikely to open next season in MIL, and Gamel has not impressed at 3B, with his defense or work ethic. I'm surprised it took this long. If he doesn't have the work ethic to get better at a position he played his whole life, how is he going to learn to play a position he never played before?
  23. Well said. The Rays also spent a top 5 pick on Dewon Brazelton. The Brewers were set to draft Davis when the Rays grabbed them 1 spot in front of us. What crippled us was plan B was Josh Wahpepah. We could have had Hellickson though, instead we drafted Will Inman, a short pitcher without plus velocity, which brings us to the new written pitching plan. A poster in the draft forum (Blazer?) was familiar with Hellickson from the travel circuit and was just sick we passed on him. I had no idea how right this guy was until years later.
  24. His build, style, and stuff remind me alot of Chad Billingsly. I hope I can eventually add production to that list, and that looking more possible with each start.
  25. Do you think the Brewers next GM would like Sanchez?
