  1. The NL average ERA for starting pitchers is 4.37 right now. By the end of this year, Bush will be averaging about 1 WAR over his last 3 years. He has not been responsible for the limited success we've had.
  2. And yet we are 3rd in the NL in Runs/game. Why, because we're 3rd in team OPS. Why aren't we 1st? Simply because 2 teams have significantly higher team OPS. Stolen Bases, Ks, and batting average are not useful stats. If we K'd 200 times less this year, we'd still be 3rd in runs/game, as that would only equate to 2 more runs for the season. Actually, the evidence strongly suggests hitting fewer HRs makes an offense more inconsistent. You are correct. However, the fact that Cameron will likely have an OPS somewhat significantly higher than Morgan does suggest Cameron would produce more runs. I also think your putting alot of eggs in one basket for a guy whose career was extremely uninspiring outside of a couple of red hot months since he got to Washington.
  3. He won't get any better offers than minor league deals, so I see no reason why he'd go somewhere else. Its a tough deal to make it back from a 2nd TJ surgery, but if anyone has the work ethic to do it, its Cappy. I wonder if he'll play winter ball to increase his stock?
  4. Bush's ERA was below the league average before the Florida game. Look up the stats yourself before resorting to condesention.
  5. Have we ever had a better group of pitching in the AFL?
  6. There isn't 1 bit of evidence that supports this notion. Morgan will likely continue to have an inferior OPS to Cameron, which means he will cause us to score fewer runs. We don't need more balance in our lineup, we need a higher team OPS. The 2 NL teams that score more runs per game have higher team OPS. If we're going to become the top run scoring team in the NL, we will have to increase our team OPS.
  7. Wow, dude, just wow. You just compared Brauns monster minor league career and 5th overall pick status to McGehee's pedestrian minor league career. Braun had a huge history of success when he signed that extension, even if it wasn't all in the Majors. If McGehee has a good year next, it will be just the 2nd good year he's had since HS.
  8. How is a below league average ERA good? Also, lots of pitchers batttle injury during the season, but theyjust pitch better the rest of the year to make up for it.
  9. Maybe some teams wouldn't want to give up a 1st, but half the teams would only have to give up a 2nd rounder. I've never seen a team hesitate giving up 2nd rounders for anybody. We got a 2nd rounder (and a sandwich pick) for Linebrink, we can get the same for Lopez. Edit: Thanks for the clarafication Logan.
  10. I saw that too, and its very cool. He finished red hot last year too, which makes me believe he'll continue it this year, and become an type A. Getting 2 picks for him would be real cool.
  11. Yo isn't a good 1 yet, he isn't even a 1 yet. Potentially, I think he is a 1 though. Bush is in no way a #3. A 3 to me means the pitcher is league average, which is about a 4.30 ERA. Bush has an ERA over 5 for the 2nd time in 3 years. Bush put up a league average ERA last year, but was also sent to AAA for poor early season performance. He's a #5. Suppan is below replacement level for the 2nd year in a row. He's a #7. Parra is talented, but has been horrible, and he didn't pitch up to his potential in the minors either. I'm losing faith in him as a starter, though he would make an exciting reliever. This team has a very strong offense, but needs multiple starting pitchers.
  12. I would agree that McGehee might be a great sell high candidate, but I'm concerned that it might be tough to get good value for him coming off surgery. Most of the teams that need a 2B or 3B have good pitching, and migt be willing to part with a young starting pitcher for a healthy McGehee, but an injured McGehee makes the situation more cloudy.
  13. Your the one who proposed not spending, not me. What signs of regression is Cameron showing? His OPS has increased for the 3rd straigth year. Its not that Washington wouldn't deal him, its just that they have no reason to deal him cheap. Why give up something in trade when we could just keep Cameron?
  14. Why would they trade him for less than what they gave up to get him? They gave up Lastings Milledge and Joel Hanrahan. If you were the Nationals GM, what would you want for him? I'm guessing if you were them you wouldn't except a few B list guys for him. If we not going to spend the money we would needed to compete next year, why bother acquiring a guy that turns 30 next year?
  15. Kendrick has been massively overrated because of the big minor league numbers he put up playing it hitters havens. I like the idea of trying to acquire undervalued players, but he's just overrated
  16. Why would Washington want to trade Morgon if he's so great? If they traded him, wouldn't they want pitching? Morgan has had a great year, but it makes he makes no sense for us. Cameron will be more WAR than any FA pitcher we'd sign for a similar price. Keep him and concentrate our trade resources on finding 3 young MLB pitchers who have upside.
  17. If Chris Duncan brought us Dave Duncan, it would be one of the greatest aquisations in franchise history. Look at the nobodies that have had great years under Dave Duncan. He made Jeff Suppan look good. he made Jeff Weaver good, Joel Pinero, Braden Looper, Todd Wellemeyer, the list goes on and on. Without Duncan, the Cardinals would struggle to be a .500 team. Rather than spending $10 million on a FA pitcher, this team could just give Chris Duncan $800 K and Dave Duncan $1 million, and it would have a dramatically bigger difference on our team ERA.
  18. The team the gets the most baserunners wins 80% of the time. Increased HR totals have minimized the relevence of the SB. Isn't that what they do at Fangraphs?
  19. Edgar Renterria was traded for Jair Jurrjens. Matt Joyce was traded for Edwin Jackson. Both were # 5s at the time of the trade, but both are #2s since the trade. We need to identify the next breakout pitcher, if thats possible. Who are the candidates? I really like Franlin Morales. He was rushed, but I think he's found himself again. Colorado actually has a full, solid, rotation, plus top youngster Jhoulis Chacon. McGehee for Morales? James Mcdonald is being wasted in the Dodger bullpen. He has an excellent change-up he isn't even using now. Big and tall, with good velocity. Might McGehee, or Hardy, be a replacement for FA to be Orlando Hudson?
  20. He was mid to high 80"s, like he is now, but the thought was he'd add velocity as he filled out. Problem is, he hasn't filled out yet. The injury this past offseason wrecked any chance of him getting in the offseason weight lifting he needs, hopefully he gets his work done this offseason. A couple of ticks more on the fastball would make him a real nice prospect. His change-up is far better than what you see from guys tthis age. His curve was real good the 1st 3 innings tonight, before it lost its drop the final 2. He showed his athletism with a couple real good defense plays. Both his control and command are very strong. He was hitting his spots, or close to them, all night. Not suprising given his combination of athletism and smooth, sound mechanics. Efrain Nieves may not walk anyone, but thats just because he pitches aggressively. His command is poor. He consistent misses the zone by wide margins, and misses the catchers glove by the width of the plate. I think this is because his delivery is so long in back. However, that does give him good deception, which accounts for his pretty solid K totals. Hitters just can't recognize when he's throwing his curve, and they flail away at it. He commands his curve well, its his fastball that gives him fits.
  21. I think the solution is simple. They both catch in AAA next year. Salome starts all the games he's healthy for, and Lucroy starts the rest, which gives Lucroy about 2/3s of the starts.
  22. We're not really getting a player when you figure in Flores is a minor league FA after the season, so he is really public property.
  23. So we get nothing for Hall, and we replaced him with a nobody. What was the rush to DFA him again? This move was completely bungled.
  24. I think I would drop Iribarren to make room for Heether. Heether is a better hitter and a more versatile defender.
  25. I'm perturbed by most Don Money stratigies, including this one. Why in the world does Joe Koshansky bat in front of Gamel and Heether?
