  1. Why give Lindblom another chance? Go with the hottest starter in the system, Ethan Small. This is a perfect chance to get his feet wet and measure where he's at.
  2. Cousins benefitted a lot by being able to pitch for the Chicago Dogs last year when most of the minor leagues didn't play. The American Association is full of experienced minor leaguers and the level of talent in that league is between High A and AA.
  3. In just 62 innings of pro ball, Small has 103 K's. He's a keeper.
  4. No offense to Big Dan but there's something out of whack about a 275 pound first baseman batting 2nd because of his on base skills. Give me the 275 pound guy who bats cleanup and drives in a lot of runs.
  5. I've been around for every year of the Brewer's existence and seen hundreds of games in person in that time. My memory isn't perfect, but that lineup I saw on Wednesday with 5-8 of Pina, Peterson, Lopes and Robertson, might have been the worst lineup I've seen. Even worse than the 72 team that featured Rick Auerbach and Ron Theobald as everyday players. Sure the game has changed but boy that was tough to watch. Could somebody please tell Counsell that you don't need to rest more than one of your better offensive players at a time when you have a bench full of minor league players.
  6. What do Robertson, Reyes, Peterson, Lopes all have in common besides the fact they aren't good major league hitters? You got it. They all play multiple positions. Maybe it's time that the focus should be more on who can hit major league pitching rather than who can be moved around when building roster depth?
  7. Beside Wong who isn't healthy?? It still hasn't led to a good offense. Taylor But your point is a good one especially when Counsell decides his 25 year old shortstop needs days off and decides to give him one the same day Narvaez isn't playing. Funny how things have changed. Yount started all 162 games in his age 32 season. Were players tougher 30+ years ago?
  8. Lets see in a month. Vogelbach and Urias are both on hot streaks making them a bit more legitimate than they may actually be. If both those guys are actually what their current numbers reflect we may not be in bad shape...but my guess is one goes cold again dragging their numbers back to a less respectable range. Vogelbach's approach doesn't match his physique. He's got 14 RBI in 140 AB's. Yeah he contributes by drawing a lot of walks and seeing a lot of pitches but don't you want your 275 pound first baseman driving in runs? Contrast that with Jesus Aguilar. Similar physique but Jesus has 49 RBI in 221 AB's. I think Brewers should focus on getting Aguilar back in a Brewer uniform.
  9. Yup, since June 1st they’ve allowed 69 runs, in just ten games. The fact they had a 3-2 victory and 8-2 victory in that ten game span makes it that much worse for their staff I thought the Cardinals were a bit short on pitching early on and that was when Flaherty was healthy.
  10. There was no team that Braun tormented more than the Cubs and I think he loved that. With the NL Central looking like a two team race between the Brewers and the Cubs, one has to wonder if his competitive juices are starting to kick in.
  11. I think it's possible we are already seeing more contact and more runs. If you throw out the seven inning games, there was an average of 10.8 runs scored per game Saturday.
  12. The Brewers don't really need another OF. Any team that has to start a journeyman infielder like Jace Peterson in the OF even for a game or two cannot be said to not need another outfielder.
  13. Agree. Cubs pitching stinks. Cubs have the best bullpen ERA in the National League. That's offset a rotation that's near the bottom. It's far from stinking. Their non-pitchers have the 4th best WAR in the NL. Brewers are 13th. St. Louis is 12th in starting pitching and 14th in RP and their best starter is on the IL. Now that's a pitching staff that stinks. Hendricks and Davies are both better than their current ERA's would indicate and if they stay at or near the top, they will be buyers and look to add a starter or two at the deadline. I fear the Cubs far more than the Cardinals. Top to bottom, their lineup is better than St. Louis. Bryant is back to his MVP form and that's affecting their entire offense. Kimbrell's been unhittable closing games.
  14. What's freak about playing catch in pregame warmup and what does he mean by relatively minor? Relative to what? Shaw's injury? Tough break for Taylor with Cain down. Brewers are really missing RH pop now. Lopes is hitting under .200. Hager is an infielder by trade, but I would have preferred his bat over Lopes.
  15. I guess you could trade Turang but I wouldn't be anxious to. Is Urias the long term answer at 3B? Is Turang at SS and Adames at 3B the better long term option? I don't think we know that answer to those just yet. Wong is only controllable through 2023. Turang will only be 24 on opening day 2024. They could keep all three of Turang, Adames and Urias.
  16. Yeah, he gives them professional AB's consistently. For an extra guy, that's all you can hope for.
  17. Former Cardinal Patrick Wisdom has been unreal since he's been up with 8 HR in 44 AB's. He was hitting .160 with 12 K's in 25 AB's at Iowa. Kind of profiles a lot like Zach Green by the way. Most amazing thing about Cubs is their bullpen. It's a bunch of guys having career years all at once.
  18. At least Peterson can run the bases so that's an upgrade over the slow-footed Shaw.
  19. How about Brad Miller (.280/.346/.475) or Jake Lamb (.242/.356/.468)? Both of those guys were out there for most of the winter. Gyorko is still a free agent. Which is especially infuriating with how poor 1B/3B have venom and with how desperately a RHB to go between those 2 positions is needed Except I read somewhere that Gyroko in involved in a new business venture and isn't interested in playing. Edit: Gyorko is managing one of the six teams in the MLB Draft League to be close to home. Hasn't closed the door to playing again but it doesn't look like it will be this year.
  20. How about Brad Miller (.280/.346/.475) or Jake Lamb (.242/.356/.468)? Both of those guys were out there for most of the winter.
  21. Brad Davison (basketball) played his entire freshman year at Wisconsin with a dislocated shoulder that popped out maybe a half dozen times and had to be manually popped back into place in the locker room. It's not been an issue since his freshman year. I suspect Shaw will play again but not this year. Perez seems to be the logical replacement for now but Jake Hager is on the 40 man and he has experience at 3rd base.
  22. My guess is Urias moves full time to 3rd and they rotate 3 guys at second till Wong returns
  23. Milner's been very good since the start of spring training.
  24. They would also have a ton of cap space starting 22-23 season, so if Love doesn't look the part they can trade for or sign a top tier QB. One lost season isn't so bad. So let's say with Love and/or Bortles under center they really struggle and finish something like 6-11 and Love doesn't look the answer going forward. Now a strong case can be made that Gutekunst should be fired because he risked so much by trading up to draft him when they did. Could that get Rodgers to unretire and return for the next couple years while the weapons around him are still intact? If not, a 6-11 record would likely get them around the 10th or 11th pick in next years draft plus they could trade Rodgers before the draft to a QB needy team for a 2022 high first round pick. That would give them the draft capital needed to move up to the top 4 in the draft to select a true franchise QB. Nobody has more riding on this than Gutekunst. He bet his his tenure as Packer GM on a Utah State QB who hadn't played against top competition in college much less against NFL defenses. I'm not sure his ego isn't at least on par with Rodgers.
  25. I think for this season Brewers have to move on and try to upgrade with a different RH bat to platoon with Vogelbach or take the position full time. With limited expansion of rosters in September now, Hiura would have to both put up good numbers at Nashville and lower his K rate significantly to even be added to the roster down the stretch. Then reassess his status this winter.
