  1. I'm guessing they picked Peterson over Perez because they aren't likely to face a LH starter for a while and they have more faith in Robertson.
  2. Mitchell turns 23 in September. Covid cost him time in the minors, but he was a drafted as a guy who was close to a finished product and nothing we saw in spring training he's not awed. If you slow play his advance and give him two more full minor league seasons after this, he'd be 25 years and 6 months old before he makes a major league impact. If they see him as a future All Star, he needs to be challenged, and be ready for the big leagues no later than 2023 when both Cain and JBJ and likely Garcia will all be gone. I see his ETA in Milwaukee sometime in the 2nd half of 2022.
  3. That's doable if he stays relatively healthy and the Brewers don't decide to trade him. A lot depends on having bullpens that can hold leads.
  4. I was having this dialogue with myself earlier today as it relates to Yelich and the long term maintenance on his back. Would playing first with the picks and scoops and fast twitch reactions be better to prolong his career or would playing the OF? This all assumes he would be serviceable as a defender at 1B. My thought is whatever will give better rest to that back is where he should go. With a hitter of Yelich's stature, the redundancy aspect is a non issue. You don't sit him vs. LH pitching. Mickey Mantle didn't play an inning of 1B until he was 35. He played there exclusively nearly full time his final 2 seasons. He was far from perfect, making 8 errors in 1967 and 15 in his last year, 1968. But that was in an era when 6 or 7 strikeouts by a staff per game was a lot. I think Yelich would be fine playing there a couple days a week to start when the big strikeout guys, Peralta and Burns are scheduled. Taylor should stay in the outfield. Let him get established as a major league hitter. If it works out that playing first is easier on Yelich's back, all the better.
  5. OF defense isn't a big issue. Yelich, Cain, Garcia and Taylor are all fine defensive outfielders.
  6. Now that's a pitching line: 3IP, 0 hits, 0 BB, 8 K
  7. They need a RH option. I don't think someone like Cron would cost a top 15 prospect.
  8. Hardy is a grizzled veteran who's been starting at Nashville but has plenty of major league experience as a reliever. He's coming off TJ light surgery, but he was good in Arizona and has been fine at Nashville. If a roster spot opens, I'd be shocked if he doesn't see time in a Brewer uniform this season.
  9. Godley is pitching like a guy who wants to be next in line if a starter is needed.
  10. Cooper or Aguilar are on my wish list for sure. Aguilar is the bigger impact bat, but Cooper is no slouch and can play OF in a pinch. I think Marlins would be more likely to consider dealing Cooper now. I think they'll hold on to Jesus until near the deadline. I wanted Cron this winter so I'd be fine with him too.
  11. Doesn't help his case when Taylor returns from a handful of days raking at AAA and immediately breaks out of his pre-demotion funk with two bombs off pitchers that baffled Hiura.
  12. I don't think it's fair to label him a 4th-5th OF after 141 major league plate appearances where he's slugged .479 and has an OPS just under .800. He's shown signs of being a classic late bloomer. He absolutely raked in his last month at AAA in 2019. He's a fine defensive outfielder so that's not an issue either. He doesn't strike out a ton by today's standards. What's not to like about him? The fact that he went through a little 3 week slump earlier in May? What major league regular hasn't done that? It wasn't like he was striking out every other AB during that slump. B-R has him as a career .6 WAR in basically about a 1/5th of a major league season.
  13. Free Al LeBoeuf. After more that 30 years toiling as a minor league coach, how about giving this 61 year old a major league gig?
  14. Why not just release Shaw or send Hiura back down? They released Smoak last year when he put up similar numbers to Shaw.
  15. "The risk with Green is a 39% strikeout rate" Hiura's rate was 34% at Nashville and they decided his other numbers were so good that he was ready to come back. Green didn't play at all last year. That could be a reason his rate is up slightly from the 33% rate in 2019 Green has one HR in every 11.4 PA at AAA since 2019. That's 32 in 366 PA. I'm guessing if he had 104 major league PA (as Hiura does now), he'd have quite a few more HR than the one Hiura has.
  16. Why is Milner still in AAA? 8 innings, 1 hit, no runs, no walks and 13 K's at Nashville. Can't believe he's not a better option than Perdomo.
  17. Seems like he was running pretty hard but couldn’t get to a ball that was hooking away from him and hit off the wall. He was playing pretty far off the line and the ball was hooking. I had a great view from the club level as you could see the point where he realized he wasn't going to get there. He was going all out but it was futile and it showed. The ball was hit a lot harder than he thought.
  18. In the end, with a guy like Rodgers, it's all me, me, me. If he wanted to play an individual sport, maybe he should have focused on golf.
  19. Pujols has 5 RBI in 20 PA for Dodgers
  20. It's not just the number of runs, it's the opponent. SD has been the hottest team in baseball. They were licking their chops when the saw Perdomo come in. I listened to part of the game from SD announcers. Once they got behind, they talked about getting the game tight enough against Brewer pen and forcing usage of Hader. They accomplished that. Perdomo was cooked when for some reason Pina called a slider on his first pitch. I knew Profar wasn't going to swing and Perdomo got behind right away. Perdomo needs to be honing his craft in the minors. Milner is a much better option and much less likely to be overwhelmed by the situation.
  21. Amazing that he kept it together for four rounds on that tough course that beat up the guys you'd have expected to be there, like Rahm, Rory, and DJ. Helped that Koepka isn't yet in top form and Louie isn't a great closer though. Phil does feed off the fans better than anybody and that played a huge factor.
  22. If you've ever been to the Trop, you can understand the visibility issues there. It was way back in 2004 that I was there, but I found the place dark and dreary. It's unlike any park in baseball.
  23. Just bring up Milner and keep him around longer than one game. He's retired 16 of the 17 hitters he's faced in AAA and fanned 8 of the 17, and didn't allow a run in spring training. Gave up a solo HR in 2 innings in one appearance. Hasn't walked anyone in any of his games this year. Perdomo is not ready for being used against the hottest team in baseball. As for replacing the two relievers traded, I don't see a trade until close to the deadline. They'll go with Richards and Yardley with Boxberger getting key spots too.
  24. I'm guessing Perez was signed as AAA depth to supplant Peterson as the jack of all trades guy in the system who can fill in if needed on the big league roster at some point.
