  1. Took 36 posts for someone finally to hit the nail on the head. He's a younger version and hopefully better version of Herrera with base stealing ability. I think he was acquired to get first shot at everyday 3B job. He was rushed to the majors in a system that was devoid of talent so I discount his first couple years. Has enough on base skills to potentially lead off too and I see some potential for 12-14 HR and 25 SB. I also like that they dealt from their farm system depth and didn't give up major league talent. I grade the move a solid A.
  2. He tried vandalizing too but in attempting to knock over a couple lamps, he swung and missed.
  3. Santana remains a boom or bust guy in my estimation. He's got a lot of holes in his swing. His value may never be higher. He's got a higher ceiling than Reed but Reed's floor is considerably higher. Agree with you they'd need more than Chisenhall that's why I suggested a young lefty reliever in the deal perhaps more.
  4. Not to rain on Yadiel's parade because he certainly was stroking it well, but his .431 BABiP in the AFL is completely unsustainable. He needs to put the ball in play a bit more.
  5. Indians are seeking OF help with the injury to Brantley. They have displaced young and controllable veteran lefty hitting 3B in Lonnie Chisenhall and his young heir apparent Giovanny Urshela. Brewers have some OF excess, and Santana would be an excellent chip if as I do you think Reed could be just as good though with less power. Santana for Chisenhall and young lefty reliever Giovanni Soto? Indians are said to covet Soler from Cubs who'd want a young stud starter in return. Santana is just a nick behind Soler, and much better defensively and the Brewer need is 3B.
  6. With the current Brewer payroll projected under $70 I just don't see a downside for letting Garza walk and bringing in a lower priced guy with some upside and trade value in Chacin to replace him. Garza was signed to be a piece of a rotation that was being built to contend and because the system lacked major league ready arms. The contending plan went out the window about May 1st of last year and now there certainly a number of arms contending for spots in the rotation. Garza sticks out like a sore thumb and even if he returns to mediocre form, it's going to take the Brewers kicking in most of his remaining deal, just to unload him for some nondescript minor leaguer somewhere. Whereas if a Chacin returned to his 2013 form, they will be deluged with offers for him come July if his deal is modest.
  7. Hoping the Brewer scouts that targeted him are keeping an eye on teammate there Chacin.
  8. If the Jays don't protect Burns, I'd take him without hesitation.
  9. Jim Miller is not to be confused with one time Brewer farmhand (late 90's) of the same name drafted out of Carthage who's now media guy for Hawthorne Race Course outside of Chicago and who is seen giving info from time to time on TVG.
  10. Roughly half of the Brewers projected payroll for 2016 is now tied up in two players, Braun and Garza. They can still add some pieces and stay under $80 million.
  11. Unloading K-Rod's salary will make eating (I can hope) Garza's a little easier or maybe they'll try him in late relief.
  12. Santana striking out at an alarming rate early on.
  13. Sarcasm aside, he's the best option they have right now. I'd take him over Herrera or Rivera.
  14. All good points, but he'll take a minor league deal for certain and you can see how he looks in ST. I think they'll be able to evaluate if he can be useful off the bench and to get occasional starts at 1B against tough RH pitchers. This is all dependent on whether or not Lind is dealt of course. Peterson might well fill that role just as ably though using him there would leave no LH pop on the bench assuming Herrera's playing 3B also vs. RHP. I wouldn't sign him today certainly, but let the roster shake out and then take a look at the possibility if there's a spot he'd have a chance to compete at.
  15. That 2017 lineup wouldn't be as good as: 1B Braun/Rogers/Someone traded for 2B Gennett/RH platoon partner Rivera SS Arcia 3B Someone we trade for Asche perhaps but LH hitter a priority LF Davis CF Phllips RF Braun or Reed C Lucroy Santana is the trade chip they need to use to fill 3B or 1B hole. They have plenty of corner OF depth in the system and he has the most value. Extend Lucroy through 2021. Top catchers are next to impossible to acquire on the cheap.
  16. Two names: David Burkhalter and Troy Stokes Burkhalter's peripherals at Appleton as a 19-20 year old were outstanding and belied his 4.99 ERA. Stokes OBP of .384 as a 19 year old at Helena was very encouraging as were his 5 HR. Yeah he's 5'8" but he can generate some pop.
  17. After addressing his anxiety issues and rehabbing a bad hip, Huff is reportedly in great shape and ready to attempt a comeback. With possibility that Lind will be moved, taking a look at Huff in Arizona might not be a bad idea. Would give them a LH bat to share 1B with Rogers and a guy who if he proves he can still hit could be in demand for a contender looking for a veteran bat.
  18. Freeman is signed through 2021 and just turned 26. Trading for him wouldn't be about 2016, though he would help no doubt. He would be a third cornerstone player to go with Phillips and Arcia. If Lara, Taylor, and two arms won't do it, then how about Santana, Lara or Clark and any one arm not named Lopez or Hader?
  19. Talk of the Braves shopping Freeman was the "talk of the Arizona Fall League". Now if the Brewers could unload Braun's contract somewhere, seems to me it would make sense to pursue Freeman who's 5 years younger and a similar per year deal that runs through 2021 when he'll be just 31. Might take a Lara, Taylor and one or two quality young arms but Atlanta's looking to unload salary.
  20. They did but who is there to bump out of our rotation? Peralta won't, Nelson is a no, and hard time seeing Jungmann get the boot. I highly doubt they don't give Garza a spot back. Matt Garza is a nice bounce back candidate himself. So if we are talking bounce back players he should be in the rotation for that reason. There is that last spot...you could send Davies back down because he is so young, but he was decent in his 6 starts last year. I wouldn't be opposed to sending Davies down to test out Chacin, but then again it would be nice for Davies to get some starts. We should let Jungmann and Davies get a big workload to see if either is going to stick long term. Because Jorge Lopez is knocking on the door waiting for a chance too, though I think he could use more time. The luxury the Cubs had was the fact they didn't have many starting pitcher type prospects in their system at the time. The Brewers rotation is so young from top to bottom it is hard to bump someone out for a project or to trade any of them. Garza bounces back to what, the very average pitcher he was in 2014? That still won't have value in the trade market with his contract. That's why I'd either stick him in the pen or just dump him and eat the rest. Chacin is a guy sitting out there who in 2013 posted a 3.47 ERA in Colorado. He wasn't bad last year either in Reno, another hitters paradise or in 4 starts for the D-Backs. If there ever was a guy out there sitting on a comeback it's a 28 year old Chacin and he could be available for a bargain price. Let Lopez develop in minors until August and save some service time. Jungmann has options and it's no sure thing he doesn't regress and need to be optioned too. Davies is another guy who looked good in small sample and may be ready, with the emphasis on "may". Regardless, he has options too and if the team is as bad as some think it could be, does it help young pitchers to be in that losing environment?
  21. How about dividing teams into a premier and major divisions ala soccer? Last place team in premier league gets relegated to major division the next year and first place team in major division moves up.
  22. I don't think the Brewers are as sold on Santana as you think. Remember Stearns was on the Astros payroll when they dealt Santana away. They might even like Reed a tad more than Santana. Revere would help balance their lineup and give them defense in CF that will help their young pitching. You are probably right that it's possible Jays could get more for Revere and wouldn't want Garza. Who does? What constitutes "turning it around" for Garza? Even if he pitched to his 2014 levels, he's not going to be in demand. Brewers would be better off cutting their losses and just releasing him, like the Cubs did with Edwin Jackson last year, even after he performed reasonably well out of the bullpen in April and May as a long man.
  23. Did I hear right? Did they compare Hader to Bumgarner? Wow.
  24. I'd leave Coulter in the OF. His ultimate value, if any, to the Brewers may be a trade chip down the line anyway. If he surpasses the guys ahead of him, they'll find room for him. With all the RH bats in the Brewer OF picture, they really could use a lefty swinging 1B bat anyway.
  25. I'd make that deal in a heartbeat. Would agree the Brewers would have to throw in some significant cash, like at least half of Garza's remaining salary. An opening day OF of Davis, Revere, and Braun is pretty darn competitive. Sure they could trade Braun, but also think of the value Santana has? It's not like they don't have young OF behind him, particularly Reed who's best position is also RF. Santana might bring you a stud 3B or 1B prospect who's major league ready whereas teams interested in Braun are going to want to lowball you with offers because of Braun's contract.
