  1. Recently let go by Arizona despite pitching pretty well in 26 inning trial for them last season and not doing badly in hitter friendly Reno. Is ideal kind of guy to pick up and maybe he'll build some value. Turns 28 in January. Yes Brewers have a lot of young arms, but if they aren't going anywhere in 2016, find a filler or two who still has upside and see if you can create some trade value for midseason.
  2. Reno is a hitter's paradise so I take his numbers with a little bit of skepticism, but I'd like to see Dorn in Maryvale. If Lind is dealt a Dorn/Rogers combo at 1B might be pretty productive.
  3. How about either Nick Swisher or Michael Bourn for Garza? Both are coming off awful seasons, but in the case of Swisher he's rebounded in the past from off years, and he at least has patience. Should the Brewers deal Lind, Swisher would be a soft platoon option at 1B with Rogers. Bourn's not near the burner he once was, but as a guy who can share CF with Santana he would seem to have value.
  4. I'm in the sign Lucroy to an extension camp so I'm certainly not looking to pawn him off. But many out there think he's available so that's the reason for the speculation as the Twins were seen as a possible suitor. I'd hate to see Lucroy traded but if they did, I'd want a young and at least useable catcher who could at least split time with Maldonado back as part of the package and Murphy kind of fits that.
  5. You correctly point out the fact that the lineup is short on LH bats, but even 2 really isn't enough against tough RH pitching. Most lineups facing RH pitchers have at least 3 LH bats. Many have 4. Gennett is a bit more of an extra base threat, and the real strength of Segura's defense is his cannon arm which would be marginalized at 2B. Neither Gennett nor Segura has patience, but give me Scooter's better lifetime BA (.287 to .266) and considerably higher SP(.424 to .360) at least vs RHP. Sardinas just doesn't generate any power and he still needs a little defensive refinement. I like his athleticism but he needs to add some strength to generate some extra base hits to be an everyday major leaguer. I think he belongs in AAA for now playing everyday. He's still just 22.
  6. What do you base that on? Certainly all conjecture on my part but wouldn't a team that sees itself as a contender as I presume the Twins do, still want Lucroy rather than Murphy for the next couple seasons and wouldn't an offer for Lucroy be more tempting from the Brewers standpoint if it included a young catcher like Murphy?
  7. Did the acquisition of John Ryan Murphy by the Twins satisfy their want for a catcher or was he acquired to add to a package they could offer to get Lucroy? I've been skeptical that the Brewers would trade Lucroy unless they could get a decent young catcher back as part of the deal. I wouldn't be too excited about Murphy who's minor league numbers are ho hum but he's a young catcher with some upside and I think he could end up in a package.
  8. I suspect they will start thinning out the crowded OF picture in the minors with some deals to acquire talent at spots they are thin at (3B, 1B and C). They are almost at a point where they can reshape their talent base by dealing from areas of depth for areas where they are thin. Guys like Coulter, Roache, and Taylor might end up being more valuable as pieces in deals. Not sure Coulter is an ideal fit at 1B. He'd have to hit a ton as a RH throwing and hitting 1B.
  9. Plouffe will get more in arbitration the next two years than the Brewers would have to pay Lucroy and the Brewers would have a bigger drop off at the catcher position than they would a boost at 3B and they still would be without either in 2018. I'd offer them Smith straight up for Kepler in a heart beat though. Neither Stewart (6K's per 9IP) or Burdi (4.8BB per 9 IP) strike me as can't miss pitching prospects either, and if you are going to take a young pitcher as part of a Lucroy deal, you better get an impact one who's ceiling is higher than the gaggle of prospects the Brewers already have. Finally why is there more concern about the Twins finding a catcher but apparently none about the Brewers finding one post Lucroy?
  10. Stearns was quoted as saying they will try and re-sign Perez. I imagine he'll wait and see where his best opportunity lies before deciding.
  11. Glad we dodged that one. Put Jason Rogers in the Korean League and he puts up numbers similar to Park. Have to question Stearns thinking. Why not just use some of that money he allotted to that failed attempt to re-sign Lucroy who is the exact same age as Park?
  12. Agree completely. Rivera's minor league numbers: .244/.289/.349. He did show some power back in Appleton in 2012, but hit just 2 HR in 514 AB's total last year. If they made this call based on a few weeks in AFL, well I'm doubly worried. Perez hit 8th most of the time, a spot where aggression at the plate is good. He also had 15 doubles and 2 triples in essentially a half season of AB's. Spread over a full season that's 30 doubles and 4 triples. I'm holding out hope the move was made to make room for a 3B they are eyeing in a trade. I'd hate to see them start the season with a career utility guy like Herrera or an unproven Rivera who's never hit in the minors.
  13. The money is taxpayer money and the U.S. government has an $18 trillion debt. It should not be spending it stealthily on patriotic displays. That's the big deal. Can't blame the Brewers for taking it, but the I certainly don't want my tax dollars wasted like that. 80,000 of 18,000,000,000,000 is such a microscopic dent in the national debt...there are far more costly DoD expenditures that make up our debt you could be upset over lol That's how the government thinks and that's why our deficit is so high. "Oh it's only a little". The fact that is it's a waste of taxpayer money, no matter how small. It's done over a lot of agencies and adds up Proxmire made a career in the Senate pointing out this type of waste.
  14. I don't see Shaffer as sure thing but he's a better fit for Brewers than Roache. Rays see themselves as contenders unlike the Brewers. Lind is an upgrade in power which is a Rays need in 2016. Shaffer's still a prospect and I don't see the Rays giving him the 1B job over Loney. Plus, Rays had 19 year old Jake Bauers playing 1B in AA last year. He's their 1B of the future.
  15. All right he's a realistic proposal: Adam Lind and Victor Roache to Rays for James Loney and Richie Shaffer. Lind and Loney are a wash financially. Rays get slight upgrade offensively at 1B for 2016. Shaffer can play 3B, has versatility, has power and is more advanced than Roache. He's obviously blocked at 3B in TB. Brewers replace Lind's LH bat in lineup who also could have some value at the deadline.
  16. How does trading Lucroy make the team younger if you presume he'll bring back exclusively prospects and not current major leaguers? Maldonado is a mere 2 months younger than Lucroy. Rogers, who I presume would take over for Lind will be 28 in March. Jeffress, who I presume would inherit the closing role is 28. Neither of those two are kids by any means. Davis who isn't being talked about in trades turns 28 in December. The only codger in the rotation is Garza (who's contract should be eaten). Even if they start the year without trading any current player, it's not an old team though trading their veterans doesn't make it a young one either. Segura and Gennett are 25. Perez is 24. Santana is 23. One presumes once guys like Arcia and Phillips are up in the big leagues, and Garza is sent packing, it will be younger than most, but that won't take trading anyone other than Segura who's not old either.
  17. Gallo and Profar? Gallo's shown nothing above AA other than that he's a sure bet to shatter major league strikeout records. His ceiling is Mark Reynolds/Russell Branyan. Profar is damaged goods. Nobody's trading for him.
  18. I wouldn't categorize a guy's who's missed almost 3 full seasons as a "perfect buy low candidate", no matter how good he once was. How many times did Mark Prior try to come back? The perfect "buy low" guy is one who's available on a short term deal and is healthy and who's had success in the past. Those are guys that you can flip if they come back to life and if not, they can just be let go. If the Brewers had some room in AA or AAA for an arm, sure, but they are pretty well stocked with arms at the upper levels. It's going to be a crowded rotation in Colorado Springs and Biloxi as it is.
  19. The money is taxpayer money and the U.S. government has an $18 trillion debt. It should not be spending it stealthily on patriotic displays. That's the big deal. Can't blame the Brewers for taking it, but the I certainly don't want my tax dollars wasted like that.
  20. Lind is not going to get a QO anywhere after 2016. He turns 33 in July, has history of back issues, and has struggled vs. LHP over his career and while he's put up decent numbers at times, he's not been a core player that can be counted on at any time. His $8 million salary is about what he's worth. I think all you guys are vastly overrating Lind's trade value. Why was he not traded last July when teams had openings? Because teams didn't offer anything of value that's why. What other GM's don't know about his back issues? Now it's the offseason, and teams who had guys go down with injuries will have them back. Most if not all of the better teams in the NL are set at 1B or at least have guys his equal. Maybe the Pirates could use him. Beyond that? Cubs? No. Cards? Not Likely. Reds? Of course not. Dodgers? No. Giants? No. Arizona? Laugh. SD? Not contenders. Colo? Don't think so. Mets? No. Nats? No. Braves? No. Marlins? No. Phils? No. That leaves the AL. Most likely teams to have interest to me would be Orioles if Davis signs elsewhere or Astros if they don't sign Davis. In either case, Lind would be a potential fall back. If one of those two teams signs Davis, then the bidding for Lind will be very limited. I believe it's at least 50-50 that Lind starts the season as a Brewer and that's not the disaster it's being made out to be. He is not going to fetch a top of the line prospect. Oh you might get someone who's in the 10-15 range on a team's prospect list but that's a best case and even then it's likely to be a lower level guy. As for Rogers not getting opportunity to assume the full time 1B position, does anyone really think the Brewer brain trust with all the RH bats in the OF is going to see Rogers as a long term answer at 1B? Sure I'd like to see what he could do over an extended period, but start the season without any LH power bat in the lineup, even granted the possibility of contending is extremely remote? Trade Lind if someone offers actual value which I just don't see. If not hold on to him and hope he's gangbusters for 3 months and then make the best deal possible assuming they are far out of any race.
  21. You're kidding right? An almost 26 year old who's never spent a day in the majors and has a career .911 fielding percentage at 3B, and a guy, albeit a young one, with a 5.75 ERA in the low minors? I wouldn't be interested if that was the offer for Lind alone, much less Lucroy too, even with that unnamed prospect.
  22. Love Rogers, but they need LH bats somewhere. You can't put a lineup on the field against a major league RH pitcher with Scooter Gennett and Elian Herrera as the lone LH bats can you? Other than Phillips and down the road, Clark, they don't have any among the prospects. I suppose you could platoon Peterson in CF with Santana this year to get another, but do you want Santana sitting 5 days a week or a career minor leaguer like Peterson playing 5 days a week? Yes it would be tough giving up a guy like Santana, but Reed is a guy who could end up being the better all around of the two and they represent a redundancy.
  23. If you weren't excited about Arcia before, you will be after reading that.
  24. Estrada was on pace to smash the major league record for HR allowed before they finally took him out of the rotation in 2014. Now you can say they sold low on him but he wasn't going to get much of a return off his 2014 season. He wasn't a "good solid pitcher". He was a fringe 4-5 starter at best and just a bullpen arm at worst.
  25. Drew Stubbs is the guy you are thinking of. In fairness to Dusty, he did win a division in 2010 with Stubbs leading off and Brandon Phillips and Votto behind him so it wasn't like he didn't have on base guys at the top part of his order. Now Stubbs tailed off after that year.
