  1. I think the fact that the old gang in LA has been broken up already to some extent with Pederson and Kiki Hernandez the latest to go elsewhere would make it easier for Turner and the Dodgers to part ways now. Dodgers are now more Mookie and Belly's team now. He'll always be revered in LA but he was originally a Met and he has his ring now too.
  2. He's had a lot more power in the minors than Robertson and with Wong added to the roster and the everyday lineup giving them better contact, maybe they can go for a guy with ability to hit it out of the park. Hid defense at 3B is questionable though.
  3. Turner has been one of the leaders of a core group with the Dodgers that's been together for a while. One of their keys to success the last 5-6 is that they've had a great clubhouse for a high profile, high payroll team. Not only is the team extremely talented, they've had great intangibles. But they've moved on from guys when the time came. Grandal, Pederson, Kiki Hernandez have all found new homes. They were all part of a close knit core group that won together. I think it's time for Turner to turn the page but it's difficult for him and the Dodgers. He clearly can still play, but the Dodgers have talented players ready to take over. Money being equal Turner stays in LA even he has to accept being a semi-regular. He's waiting as long as he can to see if their offer approaches what other teams will pay hence the waiting game. Brewers should be an attractive team for him. With Turner, they likely have enough to be serious contenders for the postseason in a weak division. Turner saw the Brewer pitching staff up close. He was 0 for 8 in the 2 games in the playoffs vs. the Brewers.
  4. I don't know how Ray gets an opening day spot over Taylor. Taylor was not overwhelmed at all last year. In fact he looked like he belonged. Ray hasn't played other than camp games since 2019. If Ray looked really good in Arizona, and it comes down to him or McKinney as a LH bench bat he's got a shot, but I think they'd find a veteran somewhere.
  5. Jet sweeps worked very well against Michigan's defense but they exposed their only two quality receivers to big hits and both went down, Davis for the season. Thankfully both will be back but hopefully if jet sweeps are big part of game plan they can use guys like Bracey and Chandler instead of their most experienced receivers.
  6. There comes a point to a team with limited finances where "top dollar" is way to much to pay to a 36 year old player. Turner seems to be one guy who's aging well. I don't think he's going to be a 25-30 HR guy anymore like a Nelson Cruz, but he is an amazing hitter nonetheless and combines a high BA, low strikeout rate, and high OBP. That's a pretty rare combination these days. If you give him 3 years, the 3rd year will be an overpay, but Cain will off the books after 2022 and if the universal DH returns under the new CBA, he can transition to DH.
  7. I think having a platoon with Robertson makes sense. Three names are Lamb, Shaw and Brad Miller. All are close in age. Miller's worst is better than the other two I'd pass on a Shaw reunion. Miller's my first choice but I wouldn't rule out Lamb. I'd let Urias back up at short and second. Counsell does a lot of double switching
  8. I think Urias is trade bait myself as part of package for a starting pitcher and they want either Turner or someone like Brad Miller or Jake Lamb to platoon with Robertson. Turang will be Arcia's heir, not Urias.
  9. The first month of the season you limit advance sale to 10,000 with space between fans. You also reserve 5,000 seats for walk up sales to anyone with proof of vaccination. You increase that each month until July when you fully open it up.
  10. I have to believe the addition of Turner with Wong would get Braun excited to return. I wouldn't rule out trading Cain with Brewers picking up a portion of his remaining salary either to free up cash for both Turner and Braun.
  11. A Miller/Robertson platoon could be quite decent. If Robertson turned out to be this generation's Casey McGehee I'd be shocked only because his AAA numbers (.725 OPS) don't seem to portend great success in the majors.
  12. If Hiura's typical year is .260/.340/.500 with 32 HR (essentially his full year stats so far), he's a mid pack 1B. If he did that every year at 2b and improved his defense there to average, he'd be an All Star in his good years. He'd have a lot more competition to make it at 1B. Not that he's not capable of replicating his rookie numbers which would put him in the mix. The hope is the move to first will allow him to focus more on his hitting and not let a bad play in the field take away from his concentration at the plate.
  13. Not Gyroko now. Both Robertson and Urias hit righthanded, and moving Hiura to 1B moves Vogelbach into a once or twice a week player. Wong is LH but he doesn't have much power so other than maybe Navarez, where's the everyday LH power bat to compliment Yelich? Unless they shock everyone and sign Turner, I think you look at the three LH hitting 3B still out there to platoon at 3B. Some very familiar names on that list including Travis Shaw and Brad Miller. Other guy is Jake Lamb. I kind of think the guy who seems to fit is Miller though Lamb may have the higher ceiling. Miller was reasonably useful and steady for Cardinals last year and can float around the infield if need be. I know he failed with Brewers in 2018 but I think he might welcome a second chance.
  14. The move to first base could cost Hiura a ton in future earnings. It's one thing being a great hitter for a 2nd baseman, it's quite another to be a premier offensive first baseman. In 2020, he was basically Chris Carter offensively.
  15. Brewers are reported to be one of three teams interested in the soon to be 41 year old Hill. I get that he fits the mold of a guy that can still give you 4-5 solid innings but I rather liked the fact that Brett Anderson was often able to get quick outs and make it through 6 innings when he was healthy enough to start and 41 is stretching it. We're not talking Warren Spahn here with Hill.
  16. I follow your logic 100% and think you may be right, but don't we also have a big question mark if we keep Hiura and assume he can play first as well? Moving from 2B to 1B shouldn't be all the difficult especially playing next to a gold glover at 2B. Big question is will they add someone like a Brad Miller to mix in at 3B with Robertson/Urias. Ramirez is a long shot.
  17. Has 6 lifetime HR at Miller Park, more than any other road park, and has slugged a healthy .482 there. Sample size is pretty significant too. Am Fam Field favors LH hitters in the alley and he should take advantage of it enough to up his HR totals into the 15 range. Hopefully it frees up Hiura to be able to concentrate on his hitting. I think he'll settle in quickly at 1B but he's going to have to hit better than he did in 2020. Looks like Robertson and Urias will be main competitors at 3B unless they can upgrade somehow.
  18. He's not an All Star but he's got a 122 career OPS+. Other than Yelich, what Brewer outfielder has better OPS+ than that? Answer is none. Even if you take out the two big years with the Dodgers, his OPS+ has fluctuated between 98 and 120. I'd take 98 as a floor. He's been around forever but just turned 30. A year off from the game, maybe for a year you can get the best out of him both on and off the field.
  19. That's why it hasn't been decided. Owners are using the universal DH as a chip to get expanded playoffs which players believe hurts their value. Neither side has the good of the game as it's primary concern. That's where we're at in 2021. It's going to take the owners being confident they can get enough fans in the stands in April to make it more palatable. Nobody seems sure whether it's going to be 5,000 or 15,000 initially.
  20. I'm with you 100%. All the other sports seem to have a plan. Baseball makes it up as it goes. Once you are willing to shorten a season even by a few games, anything is back on the table including another mini season. It wasn't like last season got extended into December. They've had months to get this right. Cases spiked and now they are dropping fast and if they can ramp up the vaccinations to 2 million a day, they'll have most of us seniors vaccinated by opening day. Just allow seniors and health care workers in the parks the first month. Lots of seniors have been imprisoned in their homes for a year and can't wait to get out. What better spot than a ballpark?
  21. If the league's proposal for 154 game schedule and the universal DH is approved, assuming they don't land Turner, I'd go with Lamb to fill LH 3B part of platoon and Cron to be primary 1B with Vogelbach filling DH role. Lamb and Cron together shouldn't cost more than about $9 million.
  22. They're already talking about moving the season back again. Once they start doing that, nothing will stop them from moving it back to July again. So yes you are optimistic.
  23. Gallows humor? Lets assume June 1 is the day they can open up the park to an unlimited amount of fans. How many tickets will they be able to sell if their already a dozen games behind and many people still scared to be in crowds and looking for any excuse to avoid them? The division was there for the taking. Maybe not so much now, but ownership isn't doing anything to excite fans back to the stadium.
  24. They had all those guys going into last year and were under .500. Cain opted out, but Narvaez, Garcia and Urias were simply bad. Sure one or two might bounce back but they need all of those guys to bounce back to be competitive. That's not likely to happen.
  25. Even the Cubs have woken up from their slumber and basically replaced Schwarber with another Schwarber. Now it's been reported ownership has given the okay to make some moves and they are looking at what's left of the starting pitching. I'd be willing to bet that if Arrieta shows anything in his workout, he'll be a Cub again. If they hang on to Bryant and Contreras, they certainly can put a decent everyday lineup on the field. Brewers not so much. Reds are said to be looking at Gregorius. I don't see why the Brewers aren't looking at him too if the Reds can afford him. Last I checked they haven't solved the 3B problem and Didi could play there certainly.
