  1. Reddick comes with baggage. He peaked the year Astros were cheating and he just turned 34. Why not see if they have something in either Fisher or McKinney who are 27 and 26 respectively?
  2. They can close the roof and open the panels during rain. I really think they should add gameday sales to people who can prove they've been vaccinated. Most of the ticket takers, ushers and many working in food service are 65 and over and most will be vaccinated by opening day.
  3. Just my opinion but I think Lindblom is a lock to be in the rotation unless he is absolutely abysmal in spring training. Maybe. But is there a 33 year old pitcher who's last decent year in the majors was 9 years ago as a reliever a lock to be in a rotation anywhere else in the major leagues?
  4. The one thing you don't have to worry about with Jeffress is that he's not afraid of the moment. He doesn't always get it done but it's not because he's rattled. Then on the other hand the Cubs chose to bring back Strop and not Jeffress to this point.
  5. He's the last guy in for me. It wouldn't surprise me at all if he doesn't make the squad Matt Albers made the team in 2018 and 2019. I think veteran presence makes Boxberger a near lock on opening day, but if he shows signs of control issues he's had in recent years, he might be gone by Mother's day.
  6. Why wouldn't they go with 5 outfielders? Taylor made a nice impression last year. Assuming Shaw makes the team, they have plenty of LH bats. They don't need both backup OF to hit LH.
  7. The deals for Anderson and Shaw shouldn't preclude them bringing back Braun, who I think can be persuaded if the protocols are eased and there are fans in the stands. Covid cases are dropping throughout the country as vaccine distribution ramps up and there's widespread immunity if not total herd immunity. Baseball can't be like the schools that are afraid to open up. We need fans and fear to go away.
  8. I still think that's a big if. We have no idea if his modest 2020 numbers were a "dead cat" bounce or a sign he'll be closer to his 2018 form. A safer sign would have been Brad Miller (before he got picked up by Phils) or Franco. His OPS+ of 95 last year doesn't scream he's back. In 2018, he struck out once per every 5.4 PA. Last year he fanned once every 3.6 PA. That was an improvement over 2019 but not great. His BABIP was close to his career high from 2017. Good news is that his contract doesn't preclude them from dumping him if he doesn't produce as they did with Smoak last year.
  9. No way Urias is the starting SS on opening day. You might think he'll end up being better than Arcia but he's not there now and if he is, then he'll play 3B.
  10. They needed to this. I guess nature of the game is why it takes this long. Anderson is fine though a bit fragile. When he gets in a groove, he gets quick outs. That helps the offense and the defense. If he gives them 25 starts it's a huge bargain.
  11. Of the 3B out there, there's one guy who's been at least a semi-regular at the position for the past 6 seasons and who in his worst season still hit 24 HR, 29 doubles and drove in 76 runs. He's also coming off a year when he posted a very respectable 109 OPS+. Plus he's only 28. Even though he hits right handed,. he's done decently against RHP his entire career. The guy is Maikel Franco. I have been more leaning to a LH bat but I'm a lot less excited about Shaw or Lamb than I was Brad Miller. You gotta go with Franco don't you?
  12. Fisher has not played a single inning of infield in college or pro ball, but he does throw right handed so maybe Counsell will try him at 3B? McKinney has played a little 1B. So there's your answer for the corner infield spots?
  13. I'm not sold that Shaw can return close to his 2017-18 form. With the way teams take away hits from lefty pull hitters, he could start pressing again pretty quickly. But he does make more sense than Gyorko. With Vogelbach relegated to part time , they need another LH power bat in the lineup
  14. Solid pickup. He figures to make roster. Brewers love guys with closer experience. Got to believe Brewers will add starter. Brett Anderson is still out there. My guess is Brewers have minor league offer to him and he's trying to get a major league deal.
  15. Things that puzzle me from various posts. Why would they sign another LH first baseman or another RH third baseman? They'll already be strapped trying to find AB's for Vogelbach. As for 3rd, a premier bat like Turner made sense, but Gyroko? They have two RH hitting third basemen at the top of their depth chart. Doesn't it make more sense to look at a lefty hitting 3rd basemen with some pop to platoon there? The two left are Shaw and Lamb. Not a great choice but both have had success in the major leagues and facing primarily RH pitching should be able to produce some power at least. I would have preferred Brad Miller but he couldn't wait for Turner to make up his mind and signed elsewhere.
  16. To get Rios, Brewers might also have to take Joe Kelly so the Dodgers can get under $250 million. I'm not opposed to that. I'd love Kelly as the 7th inning guy. Another way the Dodgers can get under $250 million would be to deal Pollock for Garcia but i don't see them doing that. I'd take Seager from the M's too if they eat half his salary.
  17. I have to question whether MA was simply trying to gain credibility with fans by going after the one top FA that was least likely to change teams. All right well that failed. If you really have that kind of money in your budget, why not give Braun a call and make him a little more interested in playing in 2021 than he has been so far and go with a three man outfield rotation in right and center? Target Rios. Maybe you can help out the Dodgers payroll expenses by also taking some money back by taking Joe Kelly with Rios and offering a cheaper reliever like Yardley along with a prospect or two.
  18. I think this is a good summary of where we are. Brewers have best offer on the table and Turner is waiting to see if Dodgers come back to match or get close to it. I just hope Plan B doesn’t involve Arcia at SS and Robertson as platoon mate at 3B. Urias should be at SS and playing everyday. The only way Urias is playing SS everyday is if he's at Nashville. Urias has done nothing yet to show he's an everyday player in the big leagues and Arcia showed signs at 25 that he just might be coming of age as a player last year. Besides heir to Arcia at shortstop is Turang. Arcia has two more years before he hits FA. By that time Turang would be on schedule to take over. Urias is "slugging" .320 in over 400 major league PA. Arcia slugged .416 in 2020.
  19. What happened to Shaw? After banner years in 2017 and 2018, Counsell only was starting him against LHP in spring training in 2019 so he could work on hitting lefties better. Then the season started and he was facing mostly RHP. Lesson is to stay good, you still have to practice what your good at. He never got his timing down in 2019.
  20. You know what does have an impact on bringing back third baseman Justin Turner? Actually signing him to a contract. The fact that the Dodgers have yet to do that is quite telling. Praising him so he feels obligated to accept less? Sort of like Braun saying to this point he doesn't have an interest to continue playing. Everyone believes that if teams really want them, even one's they have a history with, they'll pay them the going rate.
  21. I wouldn't go that far as labeling it financial disaster. A financial disaster would be Yelich not returning to his form. Remember it's quite likely that under the new CBA, the DH will return in 2022 and Turner to this point has aged quite well. Let him DH for the most part in his last couple years. Not saying he's the next Nelson Cruz, but he'll likely be able to hit enough to justify his lineup spot. Turner's annual salary is not going to be debilitating. It's going to be closer to an Aramis Ramirez type deal. Ramirez was expensive in his last year but not a disaster.
  22. No doubt it's a nice weapon but they ran it to death against a Michigan team they had buried by halftime with WR who aren't particularly physical and both got beat up. That basically ended their season.
  23. Considering how Watson reacted to adversity this year, that's a huge red flag. Great talent no doubt but not a no-brainer.
  24. Anyone can second guess, but the GM put a team on the field that was capable of a championship. It didn't happen because of a freak injury to the best left tackle in the game in the last week of the season, a blown defensive call, some questionable work by the zebras, and a fumble by one of your key players perhaps in his last play in a Packer uniform. In short, to win it all takes a little bit of luck too, and the luck was on the Bucs side this year.
  25. Even if they sign Turner, if the DH is adopted in the CBA for next season and beyond, Green fits that role too. His defense is a question anyway.
