  1. Estrada is just not doing it with men on base.
  2. Mets finally went to varsity in 9th just in time.
  3. No LoDuca either in that Met lineup. I would be one unhappy fan if I were a Met fan and bought a ticket to that one. Don't they owe the fans something other than basically a AAA team? And what happened to the integrity of the game. If I didn't know better, I'd think they were handing one to the Cubs.
  4. Anybody see the lineup the Mets have out there today against the Cubs. No Reyes. No Wright. No Beltran. No LaDuca. It's almost as if the Mets fear the Brewers and want to help the Cubs. As for the Brewers, having to play both Counsell and Graffanino in the same lineup just says: bring up Braun, now!
  5. While we're talking in state Wisconsin players let me throw in a plug for shortstop Adam Frost from Pulaski HS who is a sophomore at St. Norbert. All Frost did this season was hit .471/.518/.688, with 27 steals, and 8 K's in 157 AB's. Before everyone points out the competition, let me add that Frost was 12 for 22 (.545) in 6 games vs. WIAC teams.
  6. Everyone seems to be pointing to Hall and Weeks as reasons the offense is suffering. Yes they haven't produced to what's expected of them. But. I say look closer at Mench and Hart, both slugging under .400 and neither with a HR this month. Toss in Graffanino's woeful slugging pct. of .253 and that's even more reason to get Braun healthy and in the Milwaukee lineup. Time to play Jenks everyday too.
  7. Suppan and Sheets the next two games. This is where they earn those contracts. Corey Hart: 68 AB's and counting since last home run. Can I suggest seeing a barber? Kevin Mench: 49 AB's and counting since last home run. How do you big guys show your faces around J.J. Hardy?
  8. Two 2-run blasts off the re-awakening bat of Mike Rivera!
  9. In answer to several posters points about it being a 4 run lead, hence okay to use a guy like Shouse (WHIP as a Brewer in excess of 1.5). Guys, Citizens Bank Park is Coors Field East. A 4 run lead in that park is nothing. Estrada hit his home run one handed. Hardy's wasn't hit all that well either. Leads evaporate quickly there (see Cubs/Phillies on Saturday). That is what should have been in Yost's mind. Sure Turnbow could have struggled starting an inning. But Yost might have reacted quickly enough to get Cordero in there had T-Bow struggled. What everyone is ignoring is that the lead should have been greater than 4 runs. What is Counsell doing trying to steal 3rd base with no outs? Did he do that on his own or on instructions from Yost?
  10. "Where were you guys..." Well I dare say I was sitting at home trying to figure out how at one point in the 7th inning, the Brewers had 4 consecutive hits, including a double but had scored just one run. I was dumbfounded then by seeing Brian Shouse on my screen with totally rested Turnbow available. Especially against a Philly team in a bandbox that had just had a 6 run 8th inning two days earlier. It's not second guessing when you question those moves at the time which I did.
  11. Perhaps the worst managed game in Yost's career and that 's saying a lot. In a bandbox no less, two runners are thrown out at 3rd, one being the third out, and the other being the 1st out. Two cardinal rules of baseball violated. Bringing in Brian Shouse. Now despite his success, I've never ever trusted this guy. I can go down the street to Schaumburg and see indy league lefties with better stuff than he possesses. Getting Cordero up (too late), then not using him and letting Turnbow totally implode like it's 2006.
  12. Boys, let's hope it doesn't happen too often but in one game the Phillies exposed every weakness the Brewers have. They are (in no particular order): 1. A manager who has no clue. Ned, in that ballpark, you don't run period especially with guys in their upper 30's. 2. A lefthanded reliever in Shouse, who's "stuff" is about as good as you'll see every night in an independent league. 3. A former closer relief pitcher who is just a tease. Given enough rope (see 1), he will not only hang himself but the entire team for the second consecutive season.
  13. FYI, even with MLB extra innings having this game on its schedule, it is being blacked out in Chicago market apparently by Fox. Is anybody out of Wisconsin getting this game on MLB extra innings?
  14. Real dumb move there taking out Bergman who had thrown just 79 pitches. Glad to see him gone.
  15. If I were going to trade for someone to play 3B for 2 months, I'd rather have Loretta than Ensberg. But I fully expect Braun to have taken over by then.
  16. "it ranges from the very good...to the not good at all (Brown). Brown posted back to back seasons with OPS's over .800 and over 80 RBI for the worst team in baseball. He's a decent player but expendable, just as everyone on this list who have all been rumored to have been shopped in the past few months.
  17. Remember Closser was acquired before the Estrada deal. I think they want to get Rivera's bat going too by giving him more regular PT. Plus, the Nashville OF collection, Dillon, Macias, Anderson, etc. was not very productive. As has been pointed out two of the hottest hitters in the organization this season are catchers, the aforementioned Palmisano and my favorite sleeper Carlos Corporan.
  18. Geno, Obermueller had 3 hitless innings of relief today!
  19. "This is his 5th year in the minors...and Gillespie's 1st full season." So? He is still just 6 months older than Gillespie, who instead of kicking around the low minors like Corporan, was playing college ball in one of the premier conferences in the country and summer ball with the top college players. My point is that some guys are late bloomers though 23 is hardly too late and it doesn't really matter what they did at age 20. Being drafted in the 12th round at age 18 means scouts saw some raw ability there. Besides if you look at his numbers, there are signs of improvement over the last couple years not just this one.
  20. The tatooing of Guzman by the Sounds is significant because he's scheduled to take over the 5th starter spot for the Cubs next week.
  21. No disrespect pogokat, but "organizational soldier" Corporan's hot streak has extended to 80 ABs and he's now up in AA where he belongs. Just to put his performance in perspective: Corporan, born 1/7/84. 2007 OPS to date: .975, 9 K's in 80 AB's. Gillespie (Number 5 on Power 50), born 6/20/84. 2007 OPS to date: .686., 23 K's in 77 AB's.
  22. LouisEly is on to something. If they believe Capellan has learned his lesson, I'm fine with bringing him up. But if not Capellan, Hackman should get the call. Very early in the year, Nashville was on the Directv sports package in a game vs. New Orleans. Hackman was throwing hard and dominating the NO hitters.
  23. Is this case most certainly. The Brewers have won games over the past 8 days that were started by Roy Oswalt (twice), Zambrano and Hill. Very few teams are going to pile up a lot of runs against those guys. Conversely, in the two blowout losses this week, what two pitchers let the games get out of hand? Dessens and Spurling. Dessens is the 11th pitcher. Spurling is clearly on borrowed time as the 12th pitcher. The Brewers have scored runs consistenly but they have not had everyone hit at the same time. Once that happens, we'll see plenty of 11-4, 8-2 type games.
  24. Oh I have every expectation that Iribarren will be a Brewer probably starting in 2009. That doesn't mean he will be a starter. Once the core of young players become arbitration eligible, they will not have $2-3 million dollar bench players like they have now.
  25. Hill looks like the real deal. But he's not going to end the year with a 0.41 ERA. He's due to allow some runs. The Brewers should have the fresher lineup with Mench, Hart, and Graffanino having rested the last two days.
