  1. Heyman is a shill. He's been yapping all year on the Score that the Cubs are the better team, blah, blah, blah. Yelich won't be a unanimous selection but he's got the momentum on his side and his OPS is .70 higher than Baez. I don't know how that can be ignored.
  2. I see Brewers looking for the next Chacin on that list. Miley is about as close to that guy as anyone one the list and he seems comfortable here.
  3. Corbin was an All Star at age 23 in 2013, and has really only had one bad year (2016). He's turned into a dominant guy this year but he's always had good upside. He'll command Darvish type money.
  4. The entire Dodgers lineup scares me. There's not a soft spot anywhere and they're hot. I can see the Brewers getting by the Cards or Cubs though neither would be easy, but a hot Dodger team? That would be very, very tough. They're my choice to win it all.
  5. I don't think it is. The bench is too short to use up PH early in the game with rosters at 25 men. I think he'll have a very short leash and a guy ready, but that guy will be the starter not being penciled in as part of the playoff rotation.
  6. The Brewers bat first, so I'm thinking they go with a pure reliever to start, maybe Barnes or Soria and he goes until his time in the batting order comes up, then gets replaced by Guerra who stays in until his spot comes up, unless the Brewers have forged a lead of 2 runs or more in which case he pitches through the 5th or longer. I think the idea is to get 9 bats in the lineup from the first time through the order. They have to be careful not to burn the back end studs.
  7. I remember exactly where I was when that happened. I was driving home from work and had the Cub broadcast on.
  8. Guerra has a 1.10 ERA in 3 starts vs. Cards this season. Have to think he's part of the mix.
  9. The division has never been out of their grasp. Have you seen the guys the Cubs have been trotting out of their bullpen lately? Even if the Cubs go 5-4 over their last 9 games, Brewers can get even going 6-2. That's not insurmountable by any means.
  10. Kind of stinks that just because the Cubs might be an opponent that Cub fans in Wisconsin will get access to tickets before Brewer fans living just across the border.
  11. That thud you heard last night was Cole Hamels falling back to earth. After allowing 0 HR in his first 7 starts with the Cubs, (he allowed 23 in 20 starts with the Rangers), he's allowed 5 in his last three and the Cubs have now lost 3 of his last 4 starts.
  12. Expansion is a straw man argument. A century ago, the country's population was about a third of what it is today and today's game has players from all over the world, particularly Latin America. Not to mention that until 70 years ago, African Americans were excluded. Players are better conditioned than ever and more highly paid. Shut up and play.
  13. San Antonio was Brewer affiliate for one season in 1972 in the AA Texas League. Gorman Thomas was a San Antonio Brewer that year, as were future Brewers Bill Travers, Dan Thomas, Kevin Kobel and their number one pick from the 1971 draft, Rob Ellis. That team was awful though finishing 34 games under .500. They actually changed the name from Missions to Brewers for that season but Missions name dates back to 1933. They were the Brewers from 1972-1976, even though not a Brewers affiliate after 72, and the Dodgers from 1977-1987.
  14. I'm going to go old school to explain my choice of Yelich over Cain as MVP. Combining runs scored and RBI, Yelich has 190 to Cain's 118. That's primarily a result of Yelich outslugging Cain .560 to .429. Cain has saved a bunch of runs with his defense but not enough to overcome the offensive production edge Yelich has. I'll take Hader over Jeffress for Brewer Cy Young. That was very close as well, but I'm giving the edge to Hader based on his WHIP edge of 0.750 to 1.037. MIP? Miley is a no-brainer. 5.61 ERA in 2017. 2.23 in 2018.
  15. C Pina/Kratz IF: Moose, Arcia, Shaw, Aguilar, Schoop OF: Braun, Cain, Yelich, Granderson, IF/OF: Perez TBD: Thames or Santana. Can't see carrying Thames in a series vs. LH dominant staff like Cubs so Santana is my choice. Just 12 pitchers: Burnes, Hader, Jeffress, Soria, Miley, Chacin, Cedeno, Anderson, Davies, Gonzalez, Knebel, Jennings. Davies or Gonzalez choice as 4th starter depending on match ups. Davies has good track record vs. Cubs. So does Anderson and Miley has pitched well vs. them this season. Other guy is long man.
  16. If the arby figure is just $2.5 million, odds are good he'll be kept though not 100%, but he could get well over $3 million based on his 2017 and if that happens, they should pass. Santana looks to me like a one year wonder and there's still no place to play him. They've tried trading him when he was making minimum salary and coming off very good year. I don't see the market all that strong either.
  17. If Moose couldn't get more than a one year deal plus and option last year, what makes him think he can do better this year? He had a better 2017 than 2018 and he had to settle playing for a mere $5.5 million in 2018.
  18. You have to feel for Strop, but man it is really nice to see Maddon's dreadful managing finally come back to bite him. Strop had pitched 1.2 innings already and it was a key spot in the 10th to tack on more runs. If any of his other good relievers were available, Strop probably gets pulled for a PH here to likely extend the lead. But Maddon had used something like 9 other relievers already that game and had nobody left that he trusted...so he sent Strop out to hit. I would be furious with him if I was a Cubs fan. Seriously, what an idiot. It should come back to bite him either in the regular season or the postseason or both. Right now, he can't possibly trust Edwards, Kintzler or Duensing. That leaves Cishek who's been overused, Wilson, Chavez, Rosario, De la Rosa, and maybe Alec Mills.
  19. Pedro Strop is likely lost for the rest of the regular season, and perhaps into the playoffs with a hamstring injury. The Cub bullpen depth took a huge hit. Edwards is still struggling big time. Likely it's closer by committee now between Wilson who has control issues and Chavez. It also means they could try and rust to get Morrow ready, and who knows what he'll have when he comes back. Anyway, it ties Maddon's hands somewhat.
  20. Granderson was a great pickup. That's seven straight series wins!
  21. They have enough RH bats, but they're simply aren't the quality they have from the left side. When teams have good lefties both in their rotation and their pen, they can keep the LH hitters on ice basically the entire game. Not sure there's anyone they could get who'd be better Hunter Pence looks done. Reynolds maybe.
  22. I'm with you. Play it at Miller Park. Sure the Cubs would have a large number of fans, but if the price is right, I could see plenty of Brewer fans showing up to root for the Nats.
  23. I'm more than a little worried that Rodgers gutted out that half on a seriously injured knee. I remember Gallardo going out and pitching an inning or two after he tore his ACL. The fact that nothing's been said about this week's game has me more concerned. Makes me think they are trying to see if they can build a brace that will allow him to play albeit with seriously limited mobility ala Joe Namath in his latter years.
  24. Tampa Bay has the same record as the NL West leading Colorado Rockies. They are 18.5 games back. I saw Tampa's record today and couldn't believe how well they were doing. That's the quietest 14 over .500 ever. I don't even know who is on that team. Ji-Man (the He Man) Choi has been raking for the Rays to the tune of a .916 OPS since the ill advised move to deal him for Brad Miller. Last night he hit a walk off. Not sure I wouldn't rather still have Choi than Thames.
  25. Where's Gallardo on this list?
