  1. Curious move but two things factored in. As some said, he's stretched out and they needed coverage for extra inning games, and the fact Knebel could get back in under 60 days so no roster opening for Hoover. Yet. Williams can use a little more seasoning and the guy they added wasn't getting thrown into high leverage situations. Don't be shocked if they replace Hauser with Guerra in 4-5 days and if Drake can't handle added work, they replace him with Hoover.
  2. The problem is demographics. The Chicago metro population is estimated to be 9.5 million people. Many of those are within 90 minutes of Miller Park. A significant amount are within an hour and closer by time than to Wrigley Field. Sure about a third of baseball fans in the area are Sox fans, but that's still a lot of people. I've long felt Brewers should have lobbied to be able market their team to Lake County, Illinois residents, but that is defined by the game as Cubs and Sox territory. Forget luxury tax, let the Brewers games be seen in Waukegan and Libertyville.
  3. Knebel to the 60 man is a no-brainer. If they want to wait a couple of days, they can bring up Lopez for a few days, like they did last season.
  4. Guerra was strong in his AAA debut last night. One more clunker by Suter, and another strong AAA outing by Guerra, and they should flip flop. Miley should figure in in a few weeks should Woodruff falter. I'm not that concerned about Chacin. His slider still looks good, and he did reach 92 in his last inning. Lots of guys start the year with velo off by a couple mph and he started slow last year. He needs a lot better defense behind him than he got the other night too. What concerns me is Anderson's velocity was way down in his last start. He can't get away with middle of the plate at 91-92. He needs to be 94-95.
  5. Give Suter one more start. If he fails, send him down and bring Guerra back Guerra was their ace in 2016. They need to roll the dice that he's back close to that level. Can't believe I'm longing for Wade Miley to return but I am. Hoover is a better option right now than Williams. I don't think they're ready to hand over the 8th or 9th to a rookie until the season looks hopeless. Let him handle the closing role for CS in the meantime and go with one of the vets or Hader.
  6. I agree with the Hoover being added to the roster and Knebel being put on the 60 day. Spring performance doesn't count for guys assured of being on the team, but Hoover was fighting for a job and didn't allow a run all spring. Williams is closer material but needs a bit more seasoning in the role rather than as a 6th inning guy on the major league roster.
  7. I'd go with Hader. They'll probably go with Albers or Barnes.
  8. Are you watching the games? They've fallen behind by 4 runs or more in 4 straight games. Their closer is headed to the DL, possibly for the season and they are back to their old ways of boneheaded play and not making contact. The manager is way too lax. The hitting coach should have been fired a long time ago. In short this kind of play is unacceptable. Period. Good news is there's time to make changes before it's a total loss.
  9. Embarrassing. One mental error after another with a few physical thrown in. What kind of clubhouse is Counsell running that they are so lax?
  10. Once the starters get through their dead arm period, they will take off. Yelich still looks to me like a guy who'll be in MVP discussion all year.
  11. I think this guy has defense and rebounding issues. If Happ declared for the draft, he'd be at least a usable rotation option but that doesn't seem likely. He will likely go to where he gets more minutes.
  12. Khris Davis will have a better case for HOF when all is said and done than Cameron.
  13. He's done plenty of damage with his bat, and some of the hatred shown by opposing fans, especially within the division, is a sign of respect for his ability.
  14. Sabathia is 150 strikeouts short of 3,000. He's a lock if he gets there. Greinke still needs 2-3 decent years. No way on Ramirez. Rodriguez is this era's Lee Smith. He won't make it unless Smith does.
  15. Can't agree more about Ponce. In walking the back fields at Maryvale, he was easily the most impressive I witnessed. Looked like a man among boys with the minor leaguers.
  16. If they weren't willing to give Walker a 2 year deal, and apparently they weren't, there's no way they give one to Phillips. It's all about Hiura. His bat is probably major league ready right now. Watch and see how fast he makes it to Biloxi. If he's there by June 15, there's a decent chance he's a Brewer by season's end.
  17. I'll take a shot and say Conor Gillaspie or Gordon Beckham.
  18. Braun is looking like Braun of old and not the guy who the last couple years who couldn't get around on good fastballs and was content shooting them into RF. He's pulling it more and if he keeps that up, his HR total should rise closer to 30 again.
  19. They won't keep Drake once Jennings is activated. That way they can hold on to both Choi and Aguilar until Woodruff leaves pen duty at which time they can add Hoover to the roster.
  20. They got through 12 innings using 5 relievers. I would think they can live with a 12 man staff with more off days built into the schedule. Eventually, Aguilar or one of the extra infielders may have to go to add an arm through a tough stretch if there's no DL option, but with Choi and Franklin in the system, they can be replaced without much if any drop off.
  21. Positives to take from the opener are that 2 guys who had bad springs, Santana and Barnes, had good days. Santana put the ball in play all 5 ABs with 2 hits and Barnes struck out the side. Both guys are needed for this team to achieve.
  22. Staub had a fantastic career. Only guy in major league history with 500 hits for 4 different teams. Think about it. He was a visiting player for his first 3 seasons playing against the Milwaukee Braves. Played his last game in 1985. Made his major league debut 8 days after his 19th birthday. Played his last game at age 41. Was beloved every place he played. Just a true professional. Class. RIP Rusty.
  23. Will start off my day rooting like heck for the Marlins to beat the Cubs with their Brewer connections of Brinson in CF and Garrett Cooper in RF (trivia answer to who replaced Stanton in Miami).
  24. Williams isn't quite ready. His command is still too inconsistent. The spot that will be open when Woodruff joins the rotation is long/middle reliever. Hoover's done that job successfully and deserves that spot after an excellent spring.
  25. Actually the 1996 Brewers had a better OPS than the 82 Brewers: .794 to .789 and scored more runs: 894 to 891. I'm not sold that this team has as good a lineup as either those two but it should be very good so long as not more than one or two guys has a significant decline from 2017. I'm really excited to see Arcia continue to blossom as a hitter and I think Yelich could get in the MVP hunt.
