  1. I believe they'll go directly to San Diego from Houston. Let the record show I'm not the one suggesting dealing Cain. That would be ludicrous. A deal in the next couple days involving multiple players wouldn't shock me but Shaw, Arcia, Yelich, Cain and Braun aren't going anywhere and neither are Hader or Knebel or any of the top 3 starters.
  2. Thames has had an awful spring. Even with a fairly modest contract he might not be easy to move without taking money back. That being said he's nothing if not streaky but I can't see the Yankees taking him with Walker available. That's another reason to be upset the Brewers didn't keep Walker around especially after his market fell apart. Stearns has kind of painted himself into a corner. If Thames and Santana hit, they are obvious trade candidates, but both were awful in Arizona but need to restore interest in them from other teams. It's possible both were working on something in Arizona that led to the poor results, who knows? We're all anxious to see how this plays out. I'm just hoping this doesn't result in them getting off to a slow start. The top 4 in the order seem set, but they need the 5-7 guys in the order to produce and that's where the question marks are. If it were me, I'd be inclined to move Arcia up a few spots.
  3. Williams still needs to find consistency in his command. I'd be surprised if he makes the opening day roster. Besides if he's projected as a potential closer down the road, he might be better suited to handle that role at AAA rather than doing mop up or middle inning duty for the Brewers.
  4. Career-wise you have a point. But in 2017 he was better vs. LHP than Drake: Jennings: .213/.323/.306 Drake: .247/.308/.377. So either he's developing more effective ways to get lefties out or it was a statistical anomaly.
  5. Yelich will only get about one off day a month and they're not paying Cain $80 million over 4 years to sit once a week, at least not this year. Yelich will start 155 games and Cain 150.
  6. Apparently Dan Jennings has not made the Rays roster. He seems to me to be a very viable option to replace Logan and Drake. He was solid in relief for the White Sox and Rays last year and tougher on lefties than Drake.
  7. It looks like they start the year with 12 pitchers and I still think Williams is the odd man out. That would leave pen of Hader, Knebel, Albers, Barnes, Jeffress, Hoover, Drake and Woodruff temporarily. That will extend the decision on Aguilar. Let Williams close in CS for a few weeks until it becomes more clear who should be out. Hader, Albers, Jeffress and Hoover have been lights out all spring. Can't see how you can leave any of those guys off the opening day roster.
  8. Drake might be classified as a loogy, because he's much better vs. LH hitters than RH hitters, but that doesn't make him a good loogy or even a roster worthy loogy. He's a marginal major league pitcher by any measure. LH hitters batted .247/.308/.377 against him. You have to be better than that to be trusted to get one top LH bats out in high leverage situations late in games. I can deal with him being the last man in the pen I suppose, but I'd be looking for an upgrade.
  9. I saw him pitch once in Arizona. He was throwing the ball well. I didn't understand why he got a major league deal though I still think he can pitch. Guessing Hoover gets his roster spot and Drake stays. Guerra will be starting depth in CS?
  10. If Santana's awful spring carries over into the regular season, I don't think we'll see Braun all that much at 1B.. That's another reason to hang on to Aguilar at least for a while. Santana has been nothing short of brutal this spring, fanning 24 times vs. 2 BB. You give him the benefit of the doubt with a clean slate to open the season, but if we go 6 weeks into the season and he's still fanning every other AB, then you play an OF of Braun, Cain, and Yelich and stick Aguilar at 1B vs LHP. If Santana starts hitting like we know he's capable of, then Aguilar becomes more expendable. But I'll take Aguilar for insurance even if it means one less guy in the pen for now.
  11. Just because Braun starts the game at 1B doesn't mean he finishes the game there. I still think they keep Aguilar because he's the best PH they have and they don't need 3 2b either. Perez' all over the field role is greatly diminished. Shaw and Arcia rarely sits and the OF is crowded. So either he or Villar platoons with Sogard. One will be gone. Since Perez is more versatile that makes Villar vulnerable. Maybe they can get a lefty reliever for him.
  12. The trouble with this thread is that hindsight is 20-20. Walker was holding out for 3 years back when decisions were made to sign Sogard and tender Villar. If they knew they could get Walker for what the Yankees paid, you probably don't do either of those other moves.
  13. I'll take Barnes' major league performance over the last two seasons over Hoover's major league performance in a heartbeat. Hoover's had 2 very good full seasons as a major league reliever, in 2013 and 2015. That's 2 more than Barnes has had. Barnes had a good half season in 2016 and a so-so 2017. I think both make the team.
  14. They can deal or comb the waiver wires for a lefty specialist better than Drake. I'm sure there a more than a few in camps as non-roster guys. Maybe give Webb another shot.
  15. Brewers top 3 starters were a combined 19 games over .500 last year. Add in Nelson and Suter and they were 26 games over. Not being mentioned is that they get full season of Hader out of the pen too. The lineup should by any measure have more length and fewer K's.
  16. Nick Ramirez and Brad Kuntz should be 1-2 on the LHRP list. I'd have KJ Harrison on top of my catcher list. He was a 3 time All Pac Ten Catcher. That's no small feat and he adjusted well with the bat to pro ball. If he can stick at catcher, I think he might be the steal of the 2017 draft. Henry's got a chance to be really good too. Will be fun to follow those two.
  17. The Brewers know a lot more about Nelson's health than they are saying. There will also be arms available in July. I'm hoping they go with Suter and Guerra but I can live with either Woodruff or Miley too.
  18. Dodgers have lost Turner for an undetermined time. They could move Taylor from the OF to 3B which would open up a corner OF spot. Santana would be a cost effective target if they would be willing to part with something of real value.
  19. Everyone knows I'm not a believer in Villar. Even if he rebounds some from his 2017 which is not a given, Hiura is still on track to take the 2B job as soon as 2019 anyway and a respectable .265/.315/.400 season from Villar isn't going create much trade value for him a year from now. So why not save some money, go with Sogard/Perez platoon at 2B and keep Aguilar who's the best PH on the roster? They can find AB's for Aguilar.
  20. Breakout: Cody Ponce. I expect him to be emerge as one of the top 3-4 starting pitching prospects in the organization. Could be in line for September call up. Sleeper: Troy Stokes. Just 22, he flashed 20 HR power last year making him viable as a 4th OF in Milwaukee down the road. You don't need to be 6'3"+. See Jose Altuve Bust: Corey Ray. Until he proves otherwise. Comeback: Jorge Lopez.
  21. Of the non-roster guys brought in, Hoover looks like a near lock at this point and unless Miley gets blown up in his next start, he's at least 50-50. Other veteran guys who've impressed are Bethancourt, Franklin and Liz.
  22. Hiura's ETA is 2019. He's likely a better hitter right now than all 3 of the 2B options. In a different era, back in 1974, Brewer brass realized in spring training that the kid, Robin Yount, was better than what they had at SS so he made the team at age 18. There was no arbitration years and control years to consider back then. Had there been, he probably would have a nickname other than The Kid. Molitor was a major league ready bat right out of University of Minnesota too and made the jump from Midwest League.
  23. Hoover has had a very good camp and is a much more accomplished reliever than Drake and Gallardo looks good out of the pen. Can't see Drake making the team barring the unforeseen.
  24. 1. Keston Hiura 2. Corbin Burnes 3. Brandon Woodruff 4. Brett Phillips 5. Tristan Lutz 6. Cody Ponce 7. Freddy Peralta 8. Taylor Williams 9. Lucas Erceg 10. Luis Ortiz 11. Mauricio Dubon 12. Nick Ramirez 13. Adrian Houser 14. Trent Grisham 15. Corey Ray 16. Phil Bickford 17. John Perrin 18. Jake Gatewood 19. Trey Supak 20. K J Harrison 21. Jacob Nottingham 22. Marcos Diplan 23. Troy Stokes Jr 24. Dallas Carroll 25. Jorge Lopez
