  1. Hard Candy--Could have been a good movie if the if the believability factor didn't keep getting worse as the movie went on.The acting of Ellen Page is pretty good and for awhile it was enjoyable watching her turn the tables on the pedophile, but her character starts to get pretty annoying. The acting by Patrick Wilson was very good through the movie and particularily the castration scene,to bad the overall plot couldn't match the acting. Pi: Faith in Chaos--Very worthy rental about a numbers genius (Sean Guilette) who finds patterns in everything via numbers.Various people/groups want to use his brilliance for their own personal reasons all the while he is struggling to keep his own sanity.Definately not the type of movie everyone would enjoy,i'm sure some would find it boring given it's slow paced nature, but i'm glad i was told to check it out.
  2. I saw Benitez pitch 2-3 times last year and he was nowhere near the same guy he used to be.If i remember correctly, his fastball was in the 90-92 range, the gas throwing high 90's pitcher wasn't there. Maybe all the years of pitching has taught him enough to still be good even with diminished velocity.Granted Jenkins is a declining player also,i just don't want people to think Benitez can still blow 97mph fastballs past hitters.
  3. I don't think he'll ever return to his brief successful form. Hitters have caught on to him. No they didn't Turnbow completely lost command of his slider. He became a one pitch pitcher and big league hitters can hit almost anyone's fastball if that's the only pitch that can be thrown over the plate. The same thing happened to Brad Lidge, just to a lesser degree.Lidge had trouble commanding his slider, suddenly hitters were ripping his 97mph fastball all over the field because it was the only pitch he could throw for a strike. Lidge is better than Turnbow, but hitters don't "figure out" guys that throw 97 and have a biting slider. If Turnbow can find a way to get his slider over like he did for over a year,he'll be fine.If not,he's toast.
  4. I sure hope the Brewers don't do some salary dump of Turnbow without getting much of anything of value back. With the shaky status of the pen,Turnbow rebounding to just being a solid setup man would be huge.Him finding control again of his slider is some unrealistic pipedream.
  5. If the Brewers truely intend to keep Braun at thirdbase, keeping Koskie is pretty much ideal.Koskie is a cheap and solid player to bridge the gap for this year while Braun matures as a player. It will be interesting to see what the team does if Koskie has yet another fairly significant injury and Braun is raking in AAA,but still struggling defensively.Given Koskie's long injury history, him going down at some point should almost be expected.
  6. Pretending there is some huge disparity between JJ and Craig is just incorrect and emotional. If you think the Crew will win 88 games with JJ as the SS, the math puts them at about 86.8 with Craig. That is not much falloff at all, and oodles better than most. But aren't you just pretending to know what kind of year Hardy will have if healthy?I think it's fair to assume that Cousell will put up fairly crappy numbers if forced into significn't playing time,he's old with no upside potential and lots of history to use as a basis. With Hardy though,it wouldn't shock me if he had a poor offensive year or showed alot of his 2005 Post All-Star break form. Either way,if the Brewers are in any sort of contention next year and Hardy gets a significant injury,i can't see how the best thing to help the team win wouldn't be moving Hall back to shortstop.Counsell hits like a backup catcher, anything that puts him in the lineup outside of spot duty is more trouble for an already questionable offense.
  7. Melvin has talked about wanting to lower the team strikeouts quite often since he's been our GM and i do think he likes the thought of adding speed to the lineup. Listening to Melvin over the years,he doesn't strike me as a saber fanatic.I don't doubt he uses available statistical data, but i also see him as a type that still puts value in things like batting average,RBI's,and strikeouts for hitters more than the stat crunchers do. If Billy Beane was the GM i might buy that our owner was pressuring Melvin to do things like lower the strikeouts or add speed.I've just heard Melvin allude to things like lowering K's to many times for me to think he doesn't believe it isn't important.
  8. Rios is the kind of guy i'd like the Brewers to target, even with the involved risk that he only has one great half year to look at. Rolling the dice on a youngish player that has potential very high reward can be the type of moves that help a small market team steal a star. Granted i don't know what the Jays would want in return though and that's really the biggest key.
  9. I like it for the Braves, their pen was a big problem If they can add Gonzalez, that's two very fine pieces
  10. It really shows how stupid it was to give that contract to Turnbow last year, too. If his salary was like $500,000, or something, they could just let him see if he can work it out. Instead, they get to firesale him Why do they have to firesale Turnbow? What would that extra 2 million they would save this year do for the Brewers?Hell, they just wasted 6 million dollars on a 35 year old slap hitting backup infielder. If Turnbow can be swapped for something that helps the team then i'm all for it,but i sure wouldn't just give him away to clear his pocket change salary.I'd rather see if he can turn things around than firesale the guy to simply shed his small contract.
  11. I personally think Turnbow stunk even when he was saving 36 out of 39 games a few years ago. He was ALWAYS in trouble and was lucky to get out of all those jams. He just doesn't have enough clean 1-2-3 innings for a closer or setup man. Turnbow had a 1.08 WHIP in 2005,that is pretty damn good for the number of baserunners allowed per inning. He threw 67 innings and only allowed 49 hits and 24 walks, pretty hard to say that's a guy always in trouble. I think because closers are almost always in during a very close game, fans get stressed over any hitter that gets on base so that leads those fans to perceive it as being "in trouble" even though all closers alllow hits and walks.Clean 1-2-3 innings aren't the norm for closers, even very good ones. Maybe it turns out 2005 was a fluke, but i can't buy that he wasn't pretty damn dominant that season.Hell,he only gave up 3 earned runs from June 24th to September 30th.I certainly wouldn't give him away without a decent return,it's not like his 2.5 million dollar salary will be preventing the team from getting another good player.
  12. One thing to keep in ind about Rowand,he's a very good defensive CF,something the Brewers have lacked for awhile.
  13. Odds of Manny being a Brewer strike me as about the same as him saying OK to a trade to the Pirates or Royals,it's not gonna even be considered.
  14. I doubt the Crew would ever consider it. And i highly doubt Bonds has Milwaukee on his list of desired destinations
  15. Sign me up if Tampa would accept, but i doubt they would given his nice contract status.
  16. Schmidt has averaged 30 starts and roughly 200 innings over the last five years
  17. Just throwing this out there I read on a Bucks board that a guy heard Boston/Angels are talking about Manny and that he heard Boston has interest in Turnbow, who knows if it's true. Let's say part of a trade for Manny involved Figgins and they don't get Lugo to be their SS,would they possibly pawn off either Figgins or Crisp to Milwaukee for something involving say Hardy/Turnbow? Doubtful Boston would want such a young SS,but Theo doesn't seen adverse to playing youth.
  18. No chance that lands Crawford Gallardo would certainly have to be included as a starting point
  19. I really doubt Crawford gets traded,Tampa will be asking for so much that i doubt anyone meets their demands.
  20. I like Wilson, but you hear Melvin bring up wanting to cut down on strikeouts quite a bit.I get the sense that Wilson isn't the type Melvin wants, but he did sign Branyan so who knows.
  21. I'd rather cut Mench than trade him for Lopez and pay him
  22. Gwynn's upside is probably being Dave Roberts, but one problem is,Gwynn doesn't seem to have the same speed Roberts has.Gwynn looks to have good speed,Roberts can fly.
  23. Sheffield isn't a flake,he's just selfish and has a massive ego.Plenty of supremely talented athletes with simular attitudes to Sheffield have been driven to be great because being great helps feed that huge ego. Being flaky and weird can be a tougher issue if it's pretty severe, but i have no idea about Saltalamacchia. Those that deal with him daily should know better if it may stunt his development.
  24. Except defense, plate discipline, base-running, speed, OBP, and SLG. He's healthier and six months younger and strikes out less, those are basically where he's superior. There is no question to me that Drew is a better overall player than Lee is and buy a decent margin. His health problems are so big though,it even out there value IMO. If Drew could stay on the field, there aren't that many RF's in baseball i'd rather have. You watch JD play and he's such a talent, but i don't know the guy well enough to know whether he's soft, very unlucky,or simply has a body that's prone to injury.
