  1. That story reminds me of going to Appleton to see a John Jaha rehab appearance back in the 90s. I only remember one other player on the field that day: Bucky Jacobsen was playing in the outfield. "Moneyball" used to talk about the eyeball test; Jaha and Jacobsen just looked physically different from all the other guys. I thought for sure he'd be a major leaguer. ...and he was, albeit ever so briefly. http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=2368&position=1B/DH Not sure if he got hurt during that year with Jack Z's Mariners, or why he never played in the majors again after that season.
  2. Pina Go-Ahead Homer by Benjamin Krautkramer, on Flickr Walker's first Brewers hit by Benjamin Krautkramer, on Flickr Agree to disagree.
  3. http://www.jsonline.com/story/sports/mlb/brewers/2017/10/13/brewers-announce-they-extend-protective-netting-miller-park-2018-season/761418001/ Thank goodness that many more fans will have worse viewing, because some people are unwilling to actually pay attention during a ballgame they paid to attend.
  4. Scott Karl was a middle-of-the-rotation lefty starter, whose career flamed out after leaving Milwaukee for Colorado in the Jamey Wright trade.
  5. I feel like the award should be shared with Jimmy John's ...because that's the food I actually eat at the ballpark.
  6. ...you do realize that @Mass_Haas is himself a long-time poster and moderator on these boards, right? (Our Minor League Minutia Master, as it were. I'm just not used to the real name formality.)
  7. While I'm still the guy who had nothing positive to say on these forums about the guy's Super Bowl halftime performance (Feb. 3, 2008 - hard to believe that was nearly a decade ago!), I do feel compelled to say this: Rest In Peace, Tom Petty.
  8. Kyle Murphy was just added to IR this morning. The Packers have signed a replacement Tackle off the Cardinals' practice squad. Why do the injuries have to happen at the thinnest position on the roster?
  9. 1.5 GB, and Colorado has to play a pair of exemplary offenses to close the season. Just keep winning, and there's still a path to the Wild Card!
  10. What are they going to call the next movie? IT: the Second Course? I'm just spit-balling here, but "It Returns" seems like the obvious choice.
  11. Ryan Braun, age 31-33 (2015-2017) - 140 Games played, 135, ~100 Tony Gwynn, Sr., age 31-33 (1991-1993) - 134, 128, 122 (110 in 1994) Kirby Puckett, age 31-33 (1991-1993) - 152, 160, 156 (AL player; 108 in 1994) Ken Griffey, Jr. age 31-33 (2000-2003) - 145, 111, 70 (All with Cincinnati) Robin Yount, age 31-33 (1987-1989) - 158, 162, 160 (AL...but he wasn't the DH!) Barry Bonds, age 31-33 (1995-1998) - 144, 158, 159 (112 in 1994...must have been a bad year for outfielders! Note: July Birthday, which makes deciding on the years a bit tougher) Gary Sheffield, age 31-33 (2000-2003) - 141, 143, 135 Andruw Jones, age 31-33 (2008-2010) - 75 (+11 AAA), 82 (+3 AA), 107 Vladimir Guerrero, age 31-33 (2006-2008) - 156, 150, 143 (100 +2 in 2009) Rickey Henderson, age 31-33 (1990-1992) - 136, 134, 117 No cherry-picking here; if I thought to look up a player, I listed him. (I did skip Cal Ripken...for the obvious reason.) Tried to stick to outfielders, since they're the easiest comparison. Not surprisingly, there's not much of a consistent pattern. Most guys in their early 30s start taking some games off. (All I did was start looking up players on Fangraphs; feel free to add your own names to the list.)
  12. Not hating the Cardinals as much? How am I supposed to explain that to my kids?
  13. I would love nothing more than to see Braun's hot streak carry on for another 2 weeks. Let him take the kids on his back, and carry them into the post-season once again! Go Brewers!
  14. Cubs Fans: Cheering fly-ball outs since 2016.
  15. And visit Badger Mutual insurance .com....today! "We're Brothers?!?"
  16. My parents have PS Vue, and they watch Brewers games through the Fox Sports Go App (via a Roku player). I'm admittedly curious to see how their setup works for Packers games, as my main TV is in the basement and not terribly optimal for an OTA tuner....otherwise I'd consider making the switch myself.
  17. Is there any requirement that a player get tested to leave the concussion protocol? Given the depth chart, it's tough for any of the rookie WRs to make an impact this year; if he stays in the protocol through the pre-season, I'd have to assume the Packers would be justified in stashing him on IR for a year. Locks: Nelson, Adams, Cobb Prediction: Davis (PR / KR), Allison, McCaffrey PS: Yancy, Clark IR: Dupre The big test will be if any of the non-Janis players in the middle of the depth chart can make plays on coverage teams for the next 3 weeks. I could see the Packers keeping Clark for the week of Allison's suspension, just to make it that much more likely he makes it to their practice squad.
  18. The other aspect of the sacrifice bunt which you have to take into account (assuming the hitter doesn't bunt for a base hit) is that it opens up first base....meaning your really good hitter may just be given a free pass to set up the double-play if the hitter behind him is prone to hitting ground balls, or if there are already two outs.
  19. Hard to dislike the kind of poise Woodruff showed pitching out of tough spots in his major league debut (take # 2). What a difference a week makes. Cubs have dropped 3 straight, and their division lead is down to a half game. ...and with the bats pressing, the Brewers have won 3 of their last 4 on the strength of their pitching!
  20. Have I ever mentioned the extent to which I hate the Ho-Chunk casino ad with the 60-plus year old couple talking about winning a 1950s car, flashing back to their twenties (which would be 40+ years ago...so 1970s), in a casino that was only built in the early '90s (Wis. Dells)? Or the fact that the 2017 version of the couple bears no actual resemblance to their 50s/70s/90s counterparts? "Let's go back..." and re-think this entire 30-second spot.
  21. Here's one for the Optimism Thread: At what point do we start talking about Zach Davies as a potential 20-game winner? 12-4 after 21 starts. I haven't gamed out the schedule to see if he's going to get the full 35 (starting game 1 after the ASB certainly leaves that on the table), but he would need 8 wins in his last 14 or so starts, barring injury (knock on wood). Obviously, Wins aren't the be all and end all for pitchers in the modern era, but it's still a mark that warrants discussion...if only because a lot of good starting pitchers have come through Milwaukee without reaching 20 wins.
  22. This thread really needs a subject update. Glad Woodruff is back and pitching, and I look forward to seeing him actually pitch in a Brewers uniform before the end of the season.
  23. I think the Brewers are going to use the next few weeks to showcase Maverick as the outfielder they're willing to trade (as opposed to Brinson, who'll be up after the deadline, or Ray).
