  1. https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2018/09/24/muhammad-wilkerson-had-surgery-likely-season-ending/ Link text pretty much speaks for itself. A friendly-fire type injury could have happened from just about any player...really hard to take coming from the same guy (Brice) who's poor play in the secondary resulted in the opposition hitting another deep ball.
  2. Yesterday was the first time I learned it was possible to commit a roughing-the-passer penalty while the QB still had the ball. It's borderline absurd.
  3. If Anthony Rizzo wants to play fewer games, I'm all for it. ...at least, as long as he's wearing his Cubs' uniform while sitting on the bench.
  4. I hereby nominate a picture of Tim Dillard dressed like a priest.
  5. Anyone know the ETA on Josh Jones coming back from injury...because Kentrell Bryce did not have a good day in coverage.
  6. Carrying in Jimmy John's is better (and cheaper) than anything I've had from the concessions stands at Miller Park.
  7. It's not that he doesn't know how to get the ball out quickly, it's just that he'd rather hold it for a big play / scramble drill opportunity than take a short pickup. Assuming Aaron plays this weekend, I would expect that we'll see a good deal more of the pistol formation, with the intent towards favoring the quick passing game. (Honestly, would be a good game plan against Minnesota and Chicago with a healthy #12. A pass rush that can't get to you, can't injure you.)
  8. Correct. http://mlb.mlb.com/documents/0/8/0/268272080/2018_Official_Baseball_Rules.pdf Rule 9.17(b) on pages 132-133 states that when the team takes and never relinquishes the lead while the starting pitcher is in the game, but the starter goes for less than five innings... "the official scorer shall credit as the winning pitcher the relief pitcher, if there is only one relief pitcher, or the relief pitcher who, in the official scorer’s judgment was the most effective, if there is more than one relief pitcher."
  9. ...Probably because this is the optimism thread, which means the Cubs aren't really the #1 team in the NL. Milwaukee is.
  10. I've seen the commercial for Noah's Ark so often that I'd like to see the Reyes kid call out Tubey for fun-shaming the family into an expensive day at the Dells.
  11. The potential that the Brewers could end this series a game up on the Cubs, considering where we were a month ago, is finally starting to hit me.
  12. Amen! I don't mind Front Row Amy because I pay zero attention to her. This is the first time I've even heard about pictures...since I really don't care about her perspective on the baseball game just because she has more disposable income than I do. The woman is literally a face in the crowd, +/- a few other body parts.
  13. I was at the game, but I'm curious as to what the heck happened on Hornibrook's fumblinterception? If we got a replay of it on the scoreboard, I was too irritated to see it. I'm guessing he lost the grip on the ball, and came forward with little more than an open hand. Really glad it wasn't a better opponent, since the Badgers just wore them out over the course of the game.
  14. You knew the Bears would be pinning their ears back to go after the QB and show off their new toys (Mack, Smith)...I don't really understand why they didn't come out with the quick-passing game to begin with. Really disappointed by the effort of the O-Line in the first half, before and after the Rodgers injury. They came out flat and were out-matched by the effort coming from the Bears front 7. The pick 6 is a perfect example of that, as Linsley's failure to sustain his block for even a second send the Bears defender diving at Kizer's feet before the screen could be set up. (The center is supposed to slow down the defender before releasing up-field; his failure to slow up the defender blew up the play.) With extra time to read and react, Kizer could have moved laterally to open up a passing lane to Montgomery...or just thrown the ball in the vicinity of the RB to avoid a grounding call. Kizer does need to work on his ball security, as the strip-sack in the red zone cost Green Bay 3 points. It was at least nice to see him moving the ball down the field when he had time to throw. I'm not going to entirely absolve Kizer on the Pick-6, since he would have been better off taking the sack than throwing that ball, knowing the situation and the time remaining in the first half. When he had time to throw, he made good decisions with the ball...which is something to build off for a young QB. When he went off on the cart, I thought Rodgers was done for the game. I still can't believe they managed to win that one, and that he looked as good as they did in the second half. Also really happy with the play of the Packers secondary. While there will be larger tests, the Bears did put a lot of free agent effort into upgrading the talent in their receiving corps, but the play of Alexander, Jackson, and King really limited what the Bears were able to get done in the second half. Hoping the run defense improves as players get better acclimated to the new system; seemed like quite a few players were over-pursuing & then failing to set an edge to force things back inside. ...and since the Packers didn't trade for Mack, the best news of the day was the Saints defense getting lit up by Ryan Fitzpatrick (at home). Another 15 games like that out of the Saints, and the Packers will be getting a pretty good pick by moving a few spots down and still getting the CB they wanted.
  15. That didn't take long. With the injuries in 2017, Guerra pitched just over 100 innings between the majors and minors. He seems to be hitting the wall around 135 IP this season. (For reference, he pitched a total of 148.1 innings across all levels in 2016.) I'd rather be happy for the way Junior bounced back this year, than be disappointed in how he's pitched since the ASB.
  16. I am thankful for the Cubs fans who realize it is cheaper to attend a Brewers-Cubs game at Beautiful Miller Park than it is to pay for parking in Wrigleyville, as they subsidize my own attendance at less-expensive games. It makes it all the more worthwhile to hear shallow fly balls celebrated like Sammy Sosa hitting the Stadium Club window during the HR Derby, and all the complaints about the two-fisted slobbers / sloppers wearing Cubs gear all the more tolerable, as does beating the team from Miller Park South when they come to town.
  17. As a San Antonio Spurs fan in the 90s, Dennis Rodman. Don't @ me (...because I haven't checked for messages on this site in years, and I'm not 100% sure I even still know how to do so).
  18. Count me among the minority, but I'm more upset with the heart of the plate meatball that Taylor Williams served up after the non-bunt than I am with the umpire's call.
  19. Hundley traded to Seattle for a draft pick. Gutekunst spins straw into gold...even if its a conditional 7th round pick gold. I don't know if Kizer is better than Hundley at this point in time, but Kizer should be under team control for several more years, and Hundley wasn't exactly good when given the chance to start. EDIT: Since I got scooped, I'll add that Ian Rapoport from NFLN indicates the Packers will get a 6th rounder from Seattle.
  20. ...I just want to have something time-stamped to prove I stayed up to watch the full game!
  21. Announced, along with Davies being optioned to Single-A. EDIT: Reading comprehension is apparently an issue for me. Single-A for Davies, AAA for Corey.
  22. But if I read it right, the Nats could (and will) pull back on the claimant. Right? They're "revocable" waivers. This routinely happens during the post-trade deadline period. If a player clears waivers, the team is free to trade them. If another team puts in a claim on the player, the waiving team must work out a trade with the claiming team, rescind the waiver (pulling the player back onto the team), or let the player go without compensation (which almost never happens). Claiming a player before they could go to a competing team with a better record - and thus a lower waiver priority - is a common method to "block" a waiver trade during this time period. A high number of players get put on waivers during the month of August, yet very few of them are actually traded. Since it's bad PR to admit that a franchise is placing most of its players on waivers - and outside the understanding of most fans - you rarely hear about it. It's only a story when one of the players is actually traded.
  23. I don't know how I'm going to get through Octopath Traveler for the Switch between now and the time Spider-Man comes out for the PS4...but I'm going to enjoy trying!
  24. ...Barnes happens. (His 2019 ERA is now over his career figure...which used to be the defense when I pointed out my lack of confidence in the guy.)
