  1. I'm sure she gets that all the time; it's not my fault she looks man-ish. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  2. USA Today had a good story about Snyder and Watchmen in today's paper. From the Article: Might we have an honorary BrewerFan?
  3. Mr. 'Image not Available." (Psst....he's wearing a nametag.)
  4. The longer they go without explaining why / how CTU underground were operating, the more likely I think that it is Tony is playing both sides, and (possibly) setting Bill up for a fall. It can't be a complete coincidence that Buchannan pushed the President to go directly back to the place that we find out is apparently about to be attacked. I thought it odd that people freaked out when the government servers were being formatted....didn't make sense that the data card (whatever format it was) would be reformatted at the same time. (Not as bad as telling us that a computer's hard drive was fried while the desktop was up - I think that was last week - but still struck me as odd.)
  5. Agreed on the last part, but I'd love to see her co-host with Steve Martin. They work well together (which I assume is the reason he was on SNL so often while she was writing). To me, all it takes to make Jack Black seem unfunny is to put a camera on him....which was part of what made his satire in Tropic Thunder work. Rogan & Franco was the best part to me, way better than Will Ferrell & John C. Reilly last year (?) doing their salute to comedy. Stiller's Joaquin Phoenix spoof wasn't quite as good, but still hit the right tone. Didn't really like the past winners presenting nominees for the major categories (instead of actually showing clips of the actors....acting). Penn winning Best Actor was every bit as non-surprising as Heath Ledger winning Best Supporting Actor. Without delving too far into the political, let's just say that the role he played, combined with the initiatives on the ballot last year made that role very difficult for the Academy voter to ignore; add in that Penn is a good actor, and I could see it coming a mile away. Did they even mention the technical awards this year? I remember seeing (via C|Net's Buzz Report) that Jessica Biel hosted that portion of the awards, but I don't remember any sort of clip, or even passing mention.
  6. It doesn't have to wait on the radio side of things. If the press box is quiet enough, you can often hear the injury / scoring decisions being relayed (from Media Relations?) to the announcers, who give out the information to the audience a few seconds later. I'm assuming that the sideline 'reporter' is getting the same information from the same source, rather than the result of some independent inquiry. It's just an excuse to make it look like the sidelines reporter is doing something....maybe he / she will also relay how concerned the other players on the team looked when he came off the field, but that's about all they're really adding to the equation (which is to say, not much).
  7. Also, Brian K. Vaughn apparently has developed no sense of shame. I laughed at the Y, el Ultimo Hombre product placement. In all fairness, it wasn't Vaughn's script they were working off. Although he is a writer for Lost (who last wrote Ep. 5.4 two weeks ago), Wednesday's ep. was written by the show's producers, Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse. The comic reference actually worked on a second level, besides Vaughn's involvement: ...it paralleled the Spanish issue of Justice League that Walt had on the Island in the first season... ...the one with the Polar Bear. It looked like he was calling Jack from some sort of marina, could he have gone after Penny (for his vendetta against Widmore)? He told Jack that he had a promise to keep before going back to the Island. Last season, after Alex was murdered, Ben told Widmore that he would kill Penny. It's what I was thinking before we ever saw the phone call. Of course, there were multiple references as to how you can't take anything Benjamin Linus says as true (Ms. Hawking's statement, plus Ben's mentioning that his mother taught him to read....even though we saw in a flashback that his mother died almost immediately after he was born). The aspects of the story that I've been wondering about recently: 1) How did the British Army (young Widmore) find the Island. 2) Why hasn't old Widmore know about Ms. Hawking's 'window' calculations....or will the Island just not let him come back? 3) Did the Ajira(?) flight to Guam crash? If not, why did the canoe that Sawyer, Daniel, et. al. found on the beach in the near future have one of their bottled waters?
  8. Why hasn't Cruz signed an incentive-laden minor league deal (a la Gagne)? I don't know if the current CBA allows for this, but in the past, minor league contracts wouldn't cause the signing team to lose a draft pick. (Similarly, I'm curious if the rules would prohibit a player from signing a minor league deal, then signing an "extension" 1 month into the season.)
  9. Honestly, I don't know why baseball needs a sideline reporter. The strategy discussions do not happen within earshot of the reporter, injured players cannot return to the game (once they've been replaced), etc. Post-game interviews, sure....but all of the in-game appearances really don't add anything that couldn't come from the booth. Most of the time, the reporter presents some pre-packaged piece of information regarding a player or community outreach, instead of actual reporting.
  10. So, did I just bump up the lost thread, or was it always moving in time, and just happened to show up after such an amazing episode? There were so many good writing points / continuity falling in on itself, that I don't know where to begin. Please tell me that other people are still watching.
  11. The few times that I saw Gellner doing Brewers Live, she was downright awful. As in, can't-read-off-the-teleprompter level bad. To be honest, I'm surprised to hear she had previous broadcast experience....I made a point of avoiding the pre-game when she was on.
  12. To me, his voice sounds remarkably similar to Craig Coshun, right down to the inflection. Also, after hearing the music at the start of the interview, I can't wait for the spring training broadcasts!
  13. The collection of other teams' closers (Hoffman, Gagne, Julio, and possibly Isringhausen / C.Cordero) is starting to remind me - at least in concept - of the Rockies bullpen that helped carry them to the world series a few years ago. Of course, Julio was on that team....and wasn't good enough to make the post-season roster (if memory serves), so it's only starting to remind me of that pen.
  14. For accounting purposes, I choose to ammortize his prior contract over two seasons. $5.2 million per year doesn't sound nearly as bad.
  15. I really enjoyed Assassin's Creed as a bit of a novelty. That said, I never got into collecting flags, and severely cut down the number of fellow assassins I aided (races, stealth kills)....not because I didn't like them, but because the local crazies kept pushing me into other people, blowing my cover with the guards. I understand the people who disliked the repetitiveness, but that's something I think they can work on. For what it's worth, the ending bits are the best parts. The hinted elements they're borrowing from (provided you've stolen the access keys - something completely optional) show some real ambition, and I'm hoping they can make it all pay off.
  16. Two of my all-time favorite franchises releasing new games in the same week, and it's not even during the holiday season. Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon (DS) and Street Fighter IV! Between these two, my WoW addiction, and having picked up Chrono Trigger (DS) for 30% off at Circuit City's liquidation....how am I going to find time to play all of these games?
  17. I, for one, welcome our new Provusian Overlord.
  18. It sounds like the type of thing that I'd look back on with disappointment (and not just because it involves hockey). Let me know when they get around to Veeck-level insanity. Midgets won't work in Hockey; I want Sumo goalies!
  19. I think it's a little from Column A, and a little from Column B. It's important that your 1-2 hitters don't make outs, because that translates to more PAs for your sluggers....and that more of those ABs will come with runners on base. Over the past 3 years, Weeks has led off an inning in 38.8% of his total PAs; Assuming that Weeks was batting leadoff in every game he started over that span (ESPN doesn't give games started while batting #1 as a split), the number only drops to 21.75% once you cut out the times he leads off a game. He's been nearly twice as likely to start an inning than the 'average' for the lineup (1/9 PAs would be 11.1%). I think the TH-noted stat that Weeks scored 46.6% of the times he reached base highlites the importance of OBP in the leadoff spot, particularly with two legitimate sluggers in the 3-4 spots. You can't hit a 2-run homer with the bases empty. To me, it's a matter of your team's makeup: if your squad doesn't have as-high of SLG guys in the heart of its order, the leadoff hitter's SLG becomes more of a contributing factor (since the probability of scoring on an XBH would go down), relative to OBP (which is always important for the leadoff hitter). While I respect and understand the arguments in the abstract, I think there's room to make micro-scale analysis as well as the macro-scale work usually found at the heart of SABRmetrics.
  20. President John Keeler is the one who was shot-down in AF1. (I IMDB'd him, knowing he also played the Father on 'Unhappily Ever After' ...as that made it extremely difficult for me to take him seriously as President.)
  21. Anyone else concerned that the only person to 'confirm' the destruction of the CIP device (something they chose to re-show during the open) has conveniently pushed himself out of the picture? (I'd say Triple-Agent, but I still don't know how/where Buchannan got the cash to bankroll his off-book operations....something the President didn't seem that inquisitive about.) Considering how single-minded the First Gentleman was up to his capture, I'm surprised he didn't use the phone call to convey that Dubaku was responsible for his son's death. A lot of action this week. From what I've heard, this was the last episode 'in the can' before the writers' strike. I'll be curious to see whether they keep on their current track, or whether there's a big shift in focus coming up.
  22. On my desk at work right now, I have the Hot Dog (2006), Polish (2007?), and Chorizo (2008?) "bobbleheads." (More like bobble-torso, really.) The Brat is coming out this year, and presumably the Italian will be released in 2010. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/mad.gif I'm going to be on a plane that morning...so no front-row tix for me this year.
  23. And the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture goes to: Microsoft Excel.
  24. The Invisible man?
  25. My guess would have been Eddie Munster, but that picture doesn't look like the IMDB for the actor.
