  1. Pitching McCLung-Mota-Gagne...on the road...in St. Louis....and batting Billy with a righty on the mound.... Yost. You know more than me.
  2. Well LaRussa is going to look really bad when Prince tattoos a fastball. That...or they walk him. But Prince is not going back to the bullpen empty-handed.
  3. And one good swing by Prince could have us counting our chickens before they've hatched...
  4. The inefficient K-doctor has his breaking ball "dialed in" for 5K through 4. Game on, Jo-EL!
  5. Escobar and Jeffress for Jonny Papelbon. Might as well shoot for the moon! But seriously, it has to be Jon Rauch. He makes almost TOO much sense, with our unsettled bullpen and his ability to bounce between set-up and relief.
  6. Rauch for Nelson/Braddock/Pena 2 years left at about $5mil... Good value.
  7. Would he even be a Type B FA? Not only would Durham AT WORST get over $6mil, but he's so old, is it even guaranteed that another team would want him, outside of the SF Geriatrics, themselves?
  8. He has a good OBP but I can think of better ways to spend $3.5 million, and that's before the price of what it may cost in players.
  9. Should we shift this talk to the Ray Durham thread or has THIS become, now, the Ray Durham thread?
  10. I would think the fact that Melville was drafted by a team in his backyard also had something to do with the ease of negotiations. The Red Sox and Meyers on the other hand....in the 20th round...well we still have a dandy of a bounty from this year's draft, especially when we get LaBat into the Brewer Blue.
  11. I'm a little curious what type of deal the Giants could send our way that would necessitate Rickie's inclusion, outside of Tiny Tim, Able Cain, or, and this is quite the stretch...Brian Wilson, whose only redeeming quality is that he's a save artist (read: Joe Borowski, v.08) but he does have a good fastball.
  12. If Angel is part of the trade, it would probably be to the A's, or some AL team. If the Brewers think he can catch, he's a B+ prospect in the NL...maybe even an A- if they think his defense and instincts behind the plate are going to be plus, which they have the potential to be. Unless the Giants are footing the entire bill for the trade, this can't be right.
  13. The kid could still be in college. Let's give him another year or two to grow into his tools. I don't think his speed has diminished, as much as the power just hasn't been there.
  14. With Darren Ford, my immediate thought was Brian Fuentes. Colorado has a fetish for speed and hitting in that system, he could approach 20HR's. And then, after the Brewers offer the three Type A FA's arby, we would have 7.....7!!! picks in the top 40.
  15. Does anyone else snicker at the possibility of Uecker stating this fact in a lead-in to his first start, a la "Major League"?
  16. That HAS to be the stat of the Weeks! "I take more trots to first the hard way in a year than this kid takes the EASY way....IN HIS CAREER!
  17. "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em. Right?"-In regards to the Cain "Rumor".
  18. I'd hold out for a Racing Sausage....probably Cinco. He's my nephew's favorite, so it would keep him entertained for hours when I have to do my annual babysitting. But seriously, what could the guy who had the ball bounce off his belly hold out for? Did he even submit a list of demands?
  19. Can we trade for that Walter Johnson guy? He sounds like he could probably help us in the bullpen. BIG fan of Walter Johnson!!! He's like the next Yovanni Gallardo. (Can we have a half-serious color? Probably wouldn't be the place for it, at least not until next year when Yo becomes the second player ever to win 20 and bat .400)
  20. I was waiting for someone to drop the Bob Shapiro on us. Wasn't he also the lawyer for Michael Jackson?
  21. What about Hardy/McClung/Lucroy/Errecart at the deadline? Supplement Irribarren for Errecart if you want, but I assume they would want some offense and Hardy has a good deal of bat. McClung has been reborn as a 91-94mph pitcher, using finesse to power. And Lucroy and Errecart, like Hardy, offer above-average stick at their positions (not every 1B prospect is Matt LaPorta). The amount of service time you would be sacrificing for 2+years of Doc would seem to match up well, I would imagine, if you believe in Hardy and McClung. But with the pay raises on the near horizon for many of our "Baby Brewers", and Escobar flashing more bat than he's exhibited before (as well as a 3B who could slide over to short, though creating another hole at 3B against lefties), Hardy could be seen as replaceable. If Doc can be had, you would hope Doug is burning up the lines. With neither ace guaranteed to be here ext year, and Yo's knee probably needing some time to get back to its workhorse psyche, it would be unbelievable to have a certifiable ace who gives his bullpen the day off regularly.
  22. Which player is more likely to stay with their respective team after this season, CC or Tex? Or is that like asking, which character in "The Bucket List" is more apt to live to the end? (Spoiler Alert!) Honestly, I would really hope Doug learned his lesson after the A-Rod fiasco. Even having the best player does not allow you to pay him 20-25% of your entire payroll...unless he's Hanley Ramirez. If he's Hanley Ramirez, then your entire payroll is A-Rod's salary, so you might as well pare it down to a defensively-deficient Carl Crawford at short.
  23. How about taking out the lefties who regularly can pump it up to 95 (Liz/DeLaRosa/Olsen)? To me, that's not really a crappy pitcher, that's a bullseye for all our hitters to salivate over. edit: except Counsell-NO SOUP FOR YOU! Next!
