  1. Who are the five best power hitters of all-time? Branyan... Branyan.... Branyan...Branyan....Branyan. Because he hits Hot Fire!
  2. 1. YoGA! The name says it all. 2. Prince Again....the name says it all. 3. Weeks When he figures it out, he's going to win MVP's. 4. Bush His K/BB and old-school look hearken back to the days of yore...Your grandparents? Well I'm sure he could strike out Roy Hobbs. 5. Hart The quintessential athletic 1B. Let's hope Gamel doesn't make Hart's days at the hot corner look like Scott Rolen at 3B. Lack of Sheets/CC/Braun because...well in the grand scheme of Brewer fandom, I've realized that those three players tend to be over-valued, and I refuse to pay retail on their bandwagons.
  3. Isn't the OBP a bit high? My expectation in Sep. if he gets the callup would be something around .275/.335/.465...and I have pretty high expectations. Moreover, I would take Sean Burroughs production as a Sep. callup if his defense truly panned out. If he figures it out defensively, he has the ability to be Wright-ian...which isn't as high of praise as it sounds like, Gold Glove Award not withstanding.
  4. If Prince indeed did get hit by the coat, then everyone here would need to re-evaluate the ramifications of such an act by Manny. He could have hit Prince in the eye, knocking him indefinitely, which would seem to be as random to happen as Manny tearing an ACL or dislocating his shoulder. Honestly, the only thing I take away from the video is that Manny wanted no part of the bulldog coonfronting him. Prince is the alpha dog in that locker room, and Manny was talking back to him. He may not be the leader of the team, but he's the one who has his teammates' backs if and when they get plunked (cough..RICKIE...cough). Furthermore, he's been getting plunked a lot lately, which tends to get the vinegar bubbling in the belly, especially when it is combined with a losing streak. It seemed like he was about to begin carrying us, and I think he began to get a bit emotional throughout the game. And when he perceived Manny of challenging him, and swinging at him with a coat, which is tantamount to spitting, he flew off the rails a bit. It may not be the popular thing to do, or even the right thing to do, but it was done and now, it's over. I'm probably the only one here who was disappointed by how Manny just sat down, not even attempting to stand his ground. As Charles Woodson said during the scrimmage last night multiple times during small skirmishes on the field, "It's good to have a little 'dog' in you." Players fight all the time in an emotional job like "athlete," and I was disappointed that the small southpaw didn't at least try to defend himself. He had to have known Prince was heated and was following him. I keep coming back to the idea that if he "inadvertently" hits Prince in the eye with his coat, he could have put him on the DL just as easily as a shove or two from Prince. Prince never balled a fist, and it looked like the only reason the stout Prince's hands got near Manny's face was because his hands slid up. There was no malicious intent, just a "Feat of Strength" if you will, after the ceremonial "Airing of the Grievences" was rebuffed.
  5. I remember feeling so dejected after we got no-hit last year by Verlander. And then...well we fell short ultimately, but we had a fun ride. There are sure to be more twists and turns this season. Just enjoy the ride.
  6. Take Back Miller South!
  7. The appeal of a good nickname is within the ability to also be a nickname for one's unit. Then again, I call my man Dave, DaBush, which is more a reference to....the former Wisconsin punter. But the Braunski, the Sheeter, the Stud, The Muscle, The Gloved One (Cameron), The Hebrew Hammer, both v. 1 and v. 2, the YoGa-nator, or simply the Hardy-Har-Har Pirate's plank or an interesting attempt at phonetically saying our deposed closer's last name. They all are great nicknames for batboys.
  8. 5-1...the one being the slaughter of the Brewz to their border rival, the Twins. I still don't understand how a pitcher...FROM THE AL....who probably hadn't hit since A-ball, would terrorize my brews. But I also saw the Bush almost no-no from behind home plate (I was the large gent behind the plate in the yellow illy shirt who continued to scream "You can do it, Bush. You can do it all game long!") I was at the extra innings affair won by the Gabes where Albert Pujols played second, which ranks right up there with the Bush almost no-no. I was at the Dodgy Fellow game when Gagne was serenaded with cheers as he entered for the save. Last year, I was 17-7. The year before 1-2. And the year before, 1-0. Thus, I am....24-10. :-) I feel as if that record has some sort of meaning...it seems familiar. If only my Brewers could one day begin a season 24-10.
  9. OK. Here's a SUBquestion for all on this matter. Trammell v. Simba? Who has a more positive effect on the team? Both seem to have a quiet confidence. Both have experience in other aspects of the game, whether it be previous general manager experience or being a previous manager. I could see Trammell coming out ahead, but considering what Brian alluded to earlier, about the more sporadic Yostings this year, I would say Simba has to be given a decent amount of credit, as he has said many times his main job is to be a sounding board for Ned. Ned-"I think I'm going to go with Counsell v. Nathan here. He's a scrappy lefty who can get on base." Simba-"Use the force, Ned. The force is strong with the Shaded One. Tap the Branyan, Ned. Tap the Branyan."
  10. I agree wholeheartedly with the sentiment that We cannot do this without the Regal One. I like that he's been taking a lot of pitches, and thus walks, lately. And honestly, I didn't even realize he had regressed to his '06 numbers, where he fell off the map HARD at the end of the year, but much like Rickie, you just know it's going to happen. If his numbers end up being this comparable at the end of the season, I will seriously take a small contingent of Brewerfan.net siters to the second or third game of next year (Opening Day is for amateurs). The guy is just too good to be that mediocre.
  11. I've been discussing this with my friends and the more I think about it, the more I think George Sherrill will be donning Brewer blue in the near future. Mora/Sherrill for Hall/Pena/Nelson/Gillespie Hall has recently revived his trade value, and I continue to think he is the most apt to be traded for a good, proven bullpen arm. But really, the continued denial over the interest in Sherrill by Melvin (coupled with the murmurs that Melvin refuses to deal Hardy/Escobar for Sherrill) makes me think we'll get a deal done by going with Hall.
  12. Or...the Sox can just put him on waivers again and have him claimed by the Yanks, and just let him go. Be done with the whole charade. I've always been a fan of Manny, but lately, it's just gotten to be too much. Let Manny be Manny in the Bronx, with their "Yankee Code." That would be quite the soap opera, both pre- and post-trade/claim. Would it work? I'm pretty sure 10-5 is superceded by being put on waivers and then "released" to the claimant. There is but one logical destination for him this year, unless the Rays decide to take a $10mil chance on a DH (which, given their attendance dearth, can't be that plausible).
  13. Well H2H this year, Yost is 4-2. I stand by the ATL man. I still think he was right in batting the pitcher eighth and while he does have a bit more truth than I appreciate in his pitchers, many times he is right which only reinforces the newfound confidence the pitcher gets when he succeeds. Sweet Lou has been riding Marmol too hard this year, while Yost's only whipping boy would be his LOOGy, Shouse. I'll say it, In Yost I trust.
  14. I disagree. If you lead with the aces, then Sweet Lou is going to have a shorter leash for his starters those two days (esp. Lilly, considering he is a lefty). If we get to the already overworked bullpen early, then that means the Dumpster and Harden, a recently converted reliever and a recently converted reverse-paraplegic. If....WHEN we take the first two and we get to their bullpen early, we have to feel good about our chances for a house-cleaning with them bringing their two "aces" to the table and no relief in sight.
  15. I still think the umps were squeezing him like a teddybear earlier this year. When everyone was so critical of him, I would say, "Well it is pretty hard putting a fastball in a Dixie cup." I don't know whther it was xenophobia (which should probably be in blue) or his inclusion in the Mitchell Report (which should probably be in bold), but it seemed like Eric was cheating on the umps' daughters. He must have reconciled with them and sent the umps some belated Valentine's Day chocolates because lately,, he has been getting the calls. Then again, as mentioned earlier, he has begun to throw his long lost Uncle Charlie, which would seem to force the ups' hands because it's pretty hard to call a ball when the hitters' bats are flailing.
  16. Our unsung hero? Doug Melvin.
  17. I wouldn't say DANGEROUS as much as MERCURIAL. They have some good pieces, and a good offensive ballpark, with a gracious (read: frivolous) owner.
  18. .352/.424/.528 Lyle Overbay's full season line in his first full year of AA. Now I know Gamel is putting up slightly better numbers thus far, but I think some forget that he is doing it in....AA. Prince Fielder, in his sophomore year of the majors, garnered MVP consideration and could very well have won it had the Brewz made the playoffs. I say you pay him his 3 years of arbitration and take the two picks when he undoubtedly signs a 6yr/$125mil contract.
  19. I'll take 3-4 if we go 3-1 vs. the Cubs... It may mean we get swept by the 'stros but the bigger thing to me is taking the Cubs series.
  20. I recall some stat last year, where the A's had a 2.5ERA when they had Kendall and it doubled once he left, or something there about.
  21. I would say OPTIMISTICALLY we have a 2% chance of keeping him. Sheets....25%. We are in the same position as the Packers were a few years ago when they had Marco Rivera and Mike Wahle. They have to keep one of them, and you would assume it will be the player who has been with your team longer and would theoretically require a smaller (as in Prince Fielder is smaller than CC) deal. But if some team steps in with ridiculous money for both of them, we will have to resign ourselves to our memories and say au revoir. Here's hoping one of the two is donning Brewer blue at next year's ASB. If not, then they better have two of Prince/Hart/Weeks/Yo signed long term with the money.
  22. Beane must have run across the Kearns trade and assumed the Reds still have the same GM still. But seriously? No sense, unless it's more of the "Adam Dunn for Huston Street" variety. The A's don't really need prospects anymore, and would probably be happy with the picks.
  23. Honestly, how excited would we be to trade for a rookie to man our hot corner instead of the Hanyan monster?
  24. It would theoretically free up enough money to make a good qualifying offer to Ben Sheets, while also allowing at least next year for Mat Gamel to figure out his defense at AAA. I would think the reason Bill is playing so much right now is because we're trying to showcase him ourselves, and if a team believes he can put up a 25-30HR (full-season) line from the shortstop position, then I think they should sell.
