  1. I wish the Brewers had a true leadoff hitter. Then they could have bunted and played for one, rather than two runs. Why be greedy?
  2. Somebody figure Prince's OBP before this game and after -- on seven times! Before: .281 After: .410
  3. That would probably be a genius move, actually.
  4. Buy now while his value is low. Yeah, but his salary isn't.
  5. The red sox are in trouble They are? It doesn't really seem like it. And why would they trade a guy that gets them out of trouble?
  6. King Felix vs. Dice-K 6 PM on The Deuce
  7. I didn't even realize that Kim was still in the league. I used to kind of like that idea, but now I'm pretty sure that he's useless. I think I'd prefer that they just hang onto Capellan rather than trade him for someone like Kim/Barmes/etc.
  8. Because it would be on three days rest.
  9. I'd say Gwynn is similar to Podsednik. Neither one can hit a lick, but Gwynn can play a decent CF. Podsednik is pretty much a horrible defender anywhere you stick him on the field. Hall is more like a guy who hits like Andruw Jones and fields like Emil Brown right now in CF.
  10. Put Estrada at 2 Yay for lots and lots of outs.
  11. To have that in the 4 hole is not a playoff team. Who hit fourth for the Cards last year? Edmonds? He strikes out about once a game, as well. The Red Sox led the league in K's and won the world series. The White Sox K'd 1002 times in 2005. There really isn't any correlation between low K totals and playoff appearances. It's about scoring runs, not in what fashion you make outs.
  12. well, Brett, "clutch" or not, leaving RISP on base is sure doom for an offense, and team If this team leads the league in runners left in scoring position, chances are they will be one of the top offenses in the league. In order to leave runners on (and score runs), you have to first get them on. That's a concern I have/had about the team, so if they finish that way I will be pleasantly surprised.
  13. Our pitching has lived up to its billing thusfar, and the D has been better than many expected. I wouldn't say that. Either way it's too early to say anything either way about the team. They have played 6.5 games so far. That said, of course all we will hear again is that they aren't clutch and they suck with RISP blah, blah, blah.
  14. Gwynn in center so we have a real lead-off hitter. What about Gwynn makes him a real lead-off hitter?
  15. 30's probably too much. I think if he's hot like he is now, though, he needs to play against LHP, too.
  16. I wouldn't like to see him platooning there on a regular basis, but the need for him to start there would be so rare that I don't think it would really have mattered that much. Yeah, except I think the Brewers had to have a better contingency plan for if Hardy were to get hurt. They had no legit SS depth after deciding to move Hall to CF, and I think they would rather not have to turn to the Chris Barnwells of the world again. Besides that, I think it was much more Cirillo's call. He knew he wasn't going to get any playing time, and the Twins basically gave him the RH half of a DH platoon.
  17. Cirillo can't play SS, though. Apparently the team doesn't really think Graffy can, either. Counsell, on the other hand, has actually been awesome the past two seasons he has played SS (2004 and 2006). Once Braun comes up and settles in at 3B, Counsell can go back to the utility gig, which he fits into really nicely.
  18. Mark DeRosa has the range of Frank Thomas attempting to play 2B.
  19. Same thing happened yesterday with Hall. Jenkins gave him a "what the hell are you trying to do?" look after they almost collided.
  20. I'm as cool as Jimmy Buffett Since when is Jimmy Buffett cool?
  21. I'm not freaking out, nor do I ever. I don't even think the reverse psychology thing is funny. However, I can accept that there are people who do. I just don't understand how a person can take a game thread on a message board seriously - as if there is some kind of standard that is expected of it, or something. I think I predicted the team would win 76 games. The people that are freaking out are ones who picked them to win 96. I have no idea how 5 games can make people who thought the team was that good could make them change their minds. For you to imply that I'm a fairweather fan or something is silly. This is why IGT's kind of suck.
  22. You have nothing to do with the game as a fan. Of course he doesn't. I don't think he thinks he does. Jamie does it as "comic relief", which is nice. I don't see what your problem is. It is a game thread on a freaking message board. If you think you need to "protect" a baseball team from sarcastic humor, I would suggest that you find a new hobby. I don't see what your beef is.
  23. Dude, it's a joke. It's a "reverse psychology" thing that Jamie does when the team is struggling a little. Chill.
