  1. Right on, danzig. That's probably why I'll never "hate" Scott Boras or J.D. Drew, or whomever holds out for more cash. Draft picks get screwed all the time.
  2. I don't want anything to do with him, even in his "big" year he only had a .311 OBP, last year it was .295.
  3. I'm sticking with my Gamel and Inman pick from the prediction thread.
  4. Mark Prior's is probably one of the saddest stories I have witnessed in my time as a baseball fan. He's one of my all-time favorites for sure. Just a phenomenal talent, and I hope he still turns into Tom Seaver like he was on track to, and I don't care if he's a Cub or not. One of my favorite Brewers games ever was against the Cubs at Wrigley, which Prior started (6/26/03). Prior pitched 8 innings, had 16 K's, 0 walks, and gave up a 2-run bomb to Ginter. He left with a lead, which Borowski promptly gave up on a Jenkins HR, and the Brewers won.
  5. Any chance Ryan Adams will be making an appearance at Summerfest...ever? I'm not sure I'd even want to see him in that atmosphere. I'd rather see him at a place where people pretty much just bought tickets to see Ryan Adams play, and in a theater. He'll get booked again at the Riverside, it will just be a matter of time before it comes out. I'm going to guess it will be late May, since he has some US dates in early May and he's playing Stonehenge on June 5, or it will be in late June or July.
  6. Branyan You silly goose, it's BranyOn.
  7. I don't think it does Kershaw any good to pitch at low A. His performance in short season ball was so phenomenal (like he may have had the best peformance of any minor league pitcher from his signing date on) that facing a lot of those same guys in low A is pointless. If he were to struggle facing advanced/college hitters early on, they can move him down. I think he probably has the "makeup" to skip that level and picth well.
  8. I'm listening to the new Bright Eyes album right now. You get free a free mp3 download of the album when you order the vinyl. It's pretty good, more like "I'm Wide Awake, it's Morning", which is my favorite album of his. It's vastly different from the Four Winds EP, with only the title track being on both. I have to listen to it a few more times to get a fuller opinion of it, but I think I like it thus far.
  9. many music snobs hate all popular music, which is funny for many reasons. Not really true, and even if it were I'm not sure what would be "funny" about it. I would consider myself a bit of a "music snob", or at least I have been called one, and one of my favorite bands ever is The Beatles and they're one of the most popular bands ever. It's just that they're good, which the vast majority of stuff that is really popular now isn't (though I think the newest Arcade Fire album was #2 on the charts the first week and it's pretty good). What I think is funny is that there are a lot of people who only listen to music on the radio, when essentially all radio does is play what the record companies pay them to play - and of course there's only about three media conglomerates that own all the stations. That doesn't sound like a free market to me.
  10. Heck, I'd rather pay to just see "Dirty White Boy" than go to a Bon Jovi concert for free. You're "Cold as Ice", bro.
  11. Cox isn't in charge of making moves, though, Schuerholz is. I have heard quite a bit about him (Salty) having some serious question marks about his character. Add that in with serious question marks about his bat, and you get no interest. He is still ranked that highly because he's a catcher, and those guys are always considered prospects. Some people think Palmisano is still a prospect.
  12. Mackowiak would be a pretty sweet pickup. His versatility would be a nice addition. Popular opinion is against bringing that bum to Green Bay. Hopefully reason wins out and they get him, though. But I digress.
  13. Gillespie - pretty much my favorite guy from the moment he was drafted, I have very high hopes for him. Inman - It's going to be unfair for hitters in the FSL. Jones - I have hopes that he may make it to Milwaukee this year, and that he will up his K rate to pre-injury levels. Katin - Is he actually good or just beat up on younger pitching? Gamel - I expect him to up his walks a little more and become a legit top-tier hitting prospect, despite playing at Brevard.
  14. I would love it, but I don't see it happening. I think Alderson likes Branyan, otherwise I don't think he would have been so quick to bring him back. If Branyan were to be playing well, he would buy them time for Braun, if he needs it.
  15. I think the only way I'll go is if Wilco is there. Otherwise, the only larger event I'm going to go to is the Pitchfork Music Festival (Sonic Youth playing Daydream Nation in it's entirety, sign me up!).
  16. I don't know what Shannon Stewart is there for. He can't play the OF anymore. But he'll get hurt, so that takes care of that problem. Kotsay is out for three months, too, so the OF is kind of in disarray. They were always rumored to like Mench last season, but I don't really buy it.
  17. And watch that groundball go through the infield. Yeah, that's pretty much how it's going to work for the guys that don't rack up a high K total and pitch to a lot of contact (and conventiently there's one that they just added this offseason).

  20. Jenkins for Branyan?? I am one of the biggest Branyan fans in the world, but there's no way I'd trade Jenkins for him. Maybe him and another player of similar value, but not just for Branyan. I think whatever the Brewers get in return won't be worth as much as Jenkins, so why trade him?
  21. An infield of Fielder-Weeks-Upton-Braun would have the groundball pitchers on the team overjoyed. I don't think there's a GM in the game that wouldn't trade Turnbow for Upton. Even Bill Bavasi. There's no way the Rays would do this, they have a pretty smart front office nowadays.
  22. I think he could be available, because of Gordon being on his tail in the very near future (if they don't already consider him as ready). Who knows what kind of GM Dayton Moore is, though? They have some other decent prospects at the corner positions - Billy Butler, Chris Lubanski, maybe Mitch Maier and Justin Huber, so he might feel like he is well enough protected at those spots to trade Teahen for a nice package of players. But, he might also think that since they are not a high revenue team, he should hold on to as many of his young/cheap/good players as he can.
  23. a couple of old John Prine albums, "Armed Forces" by Elvis Costello,"Honkytonk Masquerade" by Joe Ely I actually have seen all three of those guys live in the past year, and they were all terrific. Joe Ely blew me away when I saw him with the Texas Songwriters Tour. And Gyp, as far as I'm concerned, get all four VU albums with Lou Reed, or if you feel like throwing down a larger lump sum, get the "Peel Slowly and See" box set. And then you might as well get a bunch of Lou Reed stuff, too - I have pretty much adopted the position that if you don't own "Transformer", you have a problem. Anyone else have any upcoming shows they are looking forward to? Decemberists and My Brightest Diamond in April in Madison.
  24. Bloc Party (also worth a listen btw) I've had this album for about a month now, and it is excellent. I'm not sure I would say it's as good as Silent Alarm is, but it's very good.
  25. Didn't Doug Melvin actually try to get a deal done for Manny a couple years ago, but it would've come down to having to trade like twenty guys to even out the salary, roughly? My memory is a little hazy on that one, but it was before the trade deadline. That was a comment he made as a joke.
