    I think watching him play makes it pretty clear that he has a negative effect on the team. He jacks up shots and makes virtually zero attempt to play defense - Bogut's scouting report is pretty dead on.

    Hmm. I personally think 12 pitchers in April is crazy... this is wacky. Granted, Dillon doesn't really have a place on the team, but he's got more of one than a second lefty reliever.

    I think Stetter makes the most sense to go down. Two LOOGY's is just a waste of a roster spot. As far as the rotation, Parra probably has an advantage just because he throws with his left hand.

    Yeah, seems like the old adage of "it'll work itself out" manifested itself tonight. Of course, no one wanted to see it work out that way.

    I guess I don't understand all the Gross hate. I like platoons. And, I mean, this is the same Gabe Kapler who was a well below average hitter for five years running, before becoming a manager. Let's hope lightning stays caught in the bottle for 14 more games.

    Bush must be hurt. It's one thing for him to get hit, but pretty odd to be walking this many and only throwing 81-84 the majority of his fastballs.

    The problem with the "Sheets and Gagne are gone" thing is that that only accounts for '09 salaries. Not '10, '11, and '12 like Sheets' contract would run through in all likelihood. This is almost a strawman argument, really. Sheets being back is as close to a "no chance" propostion as you'll see. The rotation will be fine with Gallardo maturing into an ace-like pitcher and Parra stepping into the middle of the rotation. I highly doubt that the rotation will be Gallardo, Villy, Parra, Suppan, Bush though. I would guess that one of, if not both, of Suppan and Bush are replaced by pitchers outside the organization (since outside of Parra there isn't a MLB pitcher in the system by next year). It's going to be time to consider trading someone like Hardy, and next offseason might not be a bad time to do it.

    Pujols' elbow is going to give out on him at some point this year, and Mulder is a huge question mark. They don't scare me at all. They'll lose 90+ with ease.

    It's pretty sweet watching the catcher go first to third and score from second on singles. And not be a jerk. I don't think he's great by any means, but it's an improvement.

    If Sheets repeats his 2004-2006 K rates and performance, he's going to get $20 million a season. I think he's going to pitch that well. He's probably going to rack up a lot of wins, too, and as long as he has some good luck health-wise (the caveat for any pitcher, of course), he'll be gone. He's certainly going to get more than three years. I'd guess along the lines of five years is more likely.

    Happy to see Gross get a start. Might be better if he were in RF and Hart in CF, but Gross can handle CF.

    Yeah, watching Dave Nelson feels kind of bad. Like you're a gawker driving past an accident scene starting out the window, mouth agape. There was one pretty excruciating one during the post-game yesterday when Coshun was talking about Weeks being tied with Kluszewski and Hornsby, and asked Davey which one of those two he played with. It then took a good 10 seconds for any kind of response. Some guys just aren't good at improving and thinking on their feet. Awkward is pretty accurate. Isn't Cirillo supposed to be joining the broadcast team sometime?

    Right now, even with whatever little annoyances there are, in my mind the broadcast nowadays is a big step up from the days of Braindead interviewing drunk dudes in the concourse in the second inning.

    This was a pretty common practice in the '50's and stuff, too, I think. In the day and age of paying a LOOGY $3 million, though, it's kind of gone by the wayside.
