  1. Looks like I have another movie to check out. Sometimes I think instant consumerism without leaving my chair is a bad idea. I just bought the movie inbetween this sentence and the last one. You won't think it's a bad idea once you watch it. It's a classic, and that's no exaggeration.
  2. Oddly enough, I had a conversation today with someone about this film - highly underrated. This and Man in the Iron Mask really made me huge fans of Gabriel Byrne... a highly underrated actor... Byrne is proving how great he is on a nightly basis right now on "In Treatment". If he doesn't win an Emmy, I'd be shocked. That entire show is underrated. And the award for most underrated Coen brothers film definitely goes to "Blood Simple". I think I watch that one more often than any of the others.
  3. My underrated award goes to the movie Miller's Crossing. Thankfully Amazon turned me on to this movie with it's recommendations. It was five bucks and I needed to put my shipping costs over the 25$ mark for free shipping. I had never even heard of this movie before, but to quote a reviewer on Amazon "it's flawless, a jewel you can turn over and around in your hands again and again, seeing a new facet every time, each one striking and smooth and perfect." Turns out those Coen guys know a thing or two about film-making.
  4. I'm shocked people have been able to stay awake long enough to form an opinion on the Eagles.
  5. Record stores
  6. The Ramones The Sex Pistols Animal Collective/Panda Bear
  7. I am loving that nearly everyone has had a Belle & Sebastian song.
  8. 1. Bob Dylan - "He Was a Friend of Mine" 2. Daniel Johnston - "My Baby Cares For the Dead" 3. Beck - "The New Pollution" 4. Tortoise & Bonnie 'Prince' Billy - "The Calvary Cross" 5. Head of Femur - "Napolean's Boots" 6. Elliott Smith - "Place Pigalle" 7. Pacific - "Sunrise" 8. Neal Casal - "Saw Stars" 9. Waylon Jennings - "I've Always Been Crazy" 10. Adam Green - "Grandma Shirley and Papa" 11. Daniel Johnston - "Grievances" 12. Al Green - "Let's Stay Together" (hells yeah) 13. Jens Lekman - "Silvia" 14. Robbie Fulks - "Coldwater, Tennessee" 15. Belle & Sebastian - "Roy Walker" 16. Bruce Springsteen - "Nothing Man" 17. Bob Dylan - "Hurricane" (live) 18. Belle & Sebastian - "I Know Where the Summer Goes" 19. Brendan Benson - "Alternative to Love" 20. The Flaming Lips - "The Wizard Turns On..." 21. Iron & Wine - "Carissa's Weird" (2001 home recordings version) 22. Chris Knight - "William's Son" 23. Elliott Smith - "The Biggest Lie" (Live, 4.17.1998) 24. Big Star - "Kizza Me" 25. Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - "Nobody's Baby Now"
  9. Yeah, but that's like saying what Nickelback does are songs.
  10. "Genetic Pollution" kind of reminds me of something Pecker would be taking pics of in Baltimore.
  11. That is awesome. WAAAAY cooler than roller derby.
  12. I thought the '06-'07 offseason was brutal, but this year I think he had a great offseason. I loved the Cameron move simply because it got Braun off of 3B, which I thought was the only thing they HAD to do this offseason. They've stuck a lot of money in the pen, but the positive there is that it's with no long term commitments (Riske is pretty cheap even at three years). Getting rid of Estrada was great as far as I'm concerned, even if they did replace him with another guy who sucks in Kendall.
  13. Sorry, but why is it the same as Zito's but different from Zambrano, Peavy or Oswalt? The way I see it all pitchers were in similar situations. The difference is that the A's had no interest in retaining their guy while the other teams did. If Sheets pitches well the Brewers will be interested. For one, none of them got to this point without already signing their extension. The Cubs and Astros both have far more money than the Brewers do. In Peavy's case, he was only 26 when he signed his deal, which probably made it more attractive to the Padres than a 30 year old Sheets would be to the Brewers.
  14. Let's see if he can find any sort of redemption under the pressure cooker in Boston. I don't think they plan on putting him under the pressure cooker, they're going to put him in it. I guess they're hoping for weight loss results similar to a sauna.
  15. "Sometimes, you get so caught up in on-base percentage that you're clogging up the bases." Yes. That's like his punchline - a mantra, if you will.
  16. i'd never argue that Kapler is better than Gross, but with Dillon covering the corners, too, i don't see only a minor dropoff in talent. I guess this is where there's kind of a fork in the road. I think Joe Dillon's really a good story and all of that, but I'm not very sure that he'd only be a minor drop-off. I also don't think he's as good of a defender as Gross is, nor could he play a little CF if need be. I agree that getting good value for Gross is a good idea, but he's not really in a roster crunch. Gwynn and (especially) Kapler seem to be more in danger than Gross would be. Of course, they also wouldn't net the team as much in a trade.
  17. No. It's the same as Zito's situation was a couple years ago. And it'll play out the same way (except Sheets won't be a colossal bust after signing his deal).
  18. Smart teams like Gabe Gross, that's for sure. I hope the Brewers are the smartest and keep him.
  19. The past two weeks, this show has gotten to the point, for me at least, that it's blowing my mind on a nightly basis. I'm just loving it.
  20. When Gallardo is pitching, Kendall should hit 9th because he would probably be the 9th best hitter in the lineup.
  21. Dude, if you like Wilco, post MORE!
  22. I drain the noddles totally, then mix the seasoning with butter and mix in with the noodles. I used to make them the same way. I once almost got into a fistfight with a friend who didn't have any chicken and offered me beef. No can do!
  23. Two favorites: Red House Painters - "Katy Song" some escape some door to open this path seems the blackest but i guess it's the soonest but there in the clearing i know you'll be wearing your young aching smile and waving your hand can't go with my heart when i can't feel what's in it i thought you'd come over but for some reason you didn't glass on the pavement under my shoe without you is all my life amounts to a final sleep no words from my cutting mouth to your ear or taut wicked pinches from my fingers to your bitter face that i can't heal i know tomorrow you will be somewhere in london living with someone you've got some kind of family there to turn to and that's more than i could ever give you a chance for calm a hope for freedom outlet from my cold solitary kingdom by the forest of our spring stay where you walked away and left a bleeding part of me empty and bothered watching the water quiet in the corner numb and falling through without you what does my life amount to? Van Morrison - "Into the Mystic" We were born before the wind Also younger than the sun Ere the bonnie boat was won as we sailed into the mystic Hark, now hear the sailors cry Smell the sea and feel the sky Let your soul and spirit fly into the mystic And when that fog horn blows I will be coming home And when that fog horn blows I want to hear it I don't have to fear it I want to rock your gypsy soul Just like way back in the days of old Then magnificently we will float into the mystic And when that fog horn blows you know I will be coming home And when thst fog horn whistle blows I got to hear it I don't have to fear it I want to rock your gypsy soul Just like way back in the days of old And together we will float into the mystic Come on girl...
