  1. The Nats killed on this one. Church is just an average player, Milledge has the chance to be special. Schneider = yawn.
  2. areacodes is up in yer threadz
  3. My favorite Miller moment has to be the bomb he hit in the 81st win in 2005 at Pittsburgh. My friends and I used to call him "Grandmaster C" (for clutch). Yeah, we're lame.
  4. This was a really good signing, especially for about the first year and a half. Solid player. With the Brewers past forays into FA, he's probably a top 10 signing in their history.
  5. He was talking about Figgins. Read his post: I don't like Figgins, when he doesn't have a .391 BABIP like last year he is a .350 OBP player with little power and poor fielding.
  6. Oh, my. This is horrible. Unbelievable, even.
  7. I think Dotel is a risk worth exploring. I hope they are smart about it and offer plenty of incentives to the contract. For sure, he has nasty stuff. However, my guess is that the serious and legitimate offer that some team makes that lands Dotel is of the multi-year variety, which I think is too risky. He hasn't stayed healthy since '04, so you're pretty much getting into Percival territory as far as durability goes. The upside is obviously better, though.
  8. I remember him taking a lot of heat for the show. It was a little "racy" at the time (so it obviously wouldn't fly now, either). It was funny, though.
  9. Wow I am pissed about this. Confidence in Melvin is almost completely gone. Be more pissed that that's who he traded Doug Davis for.
  10. I think they were obviously going to non-tender him, so the best they could get is a guy coming off an off year with a little bit of a high contract. I'm fine with it for the simple fact that Estrada is gone. The long Milwaukee nightmare is over.
  11. OK, I just heard it about 15 minutes ago on WFAN out of NY. PRAISE THE LORD
  12. At the time he was acquired, he was a salary dump that the Sox had to take in order to get Beckett. I think they basically lucked out on him.
  13. Well, whichever of those teams he signs with, it's a good deal for the Brewers. The guy has never, ever hit except at Coors field. I mean, it isn't really that hard to check that stuff.
  14. I'm likely close to alone on this one, but I'd trade an organizational soldier or three for Dukes if the Rays are just going to dump the guy for nothing.
  15. yeah -- Lowell did the smart thing here. I'm not sure the Sox did.
  16. I think Kendall's pretty hideous behind the plate, too. I don't really want anything to do with him.
  17. if you're going out to get Michael Barrett it ain't because of his throwing arm--its because you hope he puts up an OPS north of .800 again. Right on... if you're going to have a bad defensive catcher, which is a given with both of those guys, then why not have a bad defensive catcher that was one of the top offensive players at the position from '04-'06? Heck, even when he "sucked" with the Cubs this year, he still had a line of .256/.307/.427 with them, compared to Estrada's .278/.296/.403. I think the whole Zambrano thing was maybe a distraction for Barrett. Maybe he was injured. He also got inconsistent playing time after going to San Diego. The guy is a season removed from posting an .885 OPS at the catcher position, and they can probably get him on a one year deal. I'm so all over it.
  18. I heart Kershaw.
  19. Sounds good to me. Now someone needs to come out and sign LoDuca before the Brewers can make the mistake. Who's a team that overvalues grittiness, etc.? That's where he'll be. The Angels (though I love Napoli and so should they)?
  20. Well, he's never been considered a good defender, and I would expect that to continue. I think the arm is an "Estrada injury excuse for no production".
  21. He pretty much hit like his career norms. Fewer walks, but he's been taking fewer every year for the past few. Otherwise, his AVG was 2 points lower and his SLG was 3 points lower than his career numbers. He's a catcher and another year older. If he IS significantly better is what would cause me to be surprised.
  22. Yeah, but I mean maybe he'll actually shoot it. He shot 25 threes last year.
  23. Maybe Krabbenhoft will have the outside shot that he was alleged to have had when he signed.
  24. I like Costanzo quite a bit. I followed him during college on Boyd Nation's site back in the day. He K's a lot back then, too, but he was a walks machine. I think he's Cust-lite.
  25. Wow, I guess I didn't even bother to look him up. Laziness on my part, slipping in my old age. Still, age and salary are two really good reasons in their own right.
