  1. That's brutal bensheeps. I guess you can't spell "classies" without an ass.
  2. Aaron, Henry I may have Milwaukee blinders on, but I cannot be convinced otherwise. If he's not the greatest player, he may be the most underrated.
  3. I haven't been so excited about a new pitcher since Marco Estrada...
  4. My vote is for The Doorman. In the event they can't afford him, I'd go with either Sveum or Randolph. They seem reasonable enough and get along with the players. Who knows if it translates into a good manager. Unless we get some pitching it won't matter. I just want Melvin to put a hard 90 pitch limit on Gallardo for the lame duck session.
  5. Macha's moves with Gallardo are utterly baffling. Note to Melvin: Just remember, Macha will be gone next year and Yo will be one of your most critical players...stop the madness! Don't let some guy trying to save his job ruin our only stud pitcher.
  6. One suggestion for those that like the Brewers audio...if you have a DVR you can slow the game a bit to match with the audio from the computer or iPhone app. Of course if you are in the homeland the TV is the part that's delayed so that won't work, but the MLB audio subscription or At-Bat app with audio aren't that expensive if you really like it. Heck, when I first moved out here I used to have my Mom put the receiver by her radio so I could get Uecker. Those apps cost less than one phone call back then.
  7. Between obsessedwithbrewcrew, hawing & the SO and Prince's double with rage all celebrating the Piglet's pub in fangraphs today...just could not have been a better way to end the day!!! Hope you all enjoyed it...safe travels obsessed. Have fun at the Marlins series next year!
  8. I wonder if the Brewers are better off saving some of the payroll from next year for 2012-13. Attendance will be down next year as well. If they have $30mm in payroll off the books and lose $10-15mm in revenues, maybe they bank it for an extra splash the following year. Without knowing all the details, it seems Attanasio has shown a willingness to break even or even lose a little dough in order to win. Maybe having a little in the bank makes it easier to go for it harder when the next batch of young guys come through. It also seems we'll get better quality pitching prospects for Prince if they are 2-3 years away. I get the feeling we won't get the Bucholz or Bumgarner type guys, but may be able to get a couple of someone else's Odorizzi.
  9. That's a competitive lineup. It may be a slight downtick from the current one with the absence of Fielder, but there could be lesser improvements spread around the rest of the order. Between Hart, Braun & Weeks they should be able to maintain as a group...maybe Braun picks up where Hart and Weeks cool off. Cain at a minimum should be Gomez to start and improve to an upgrade. Same with Lawrie. Lucroy and Escobar will each improve. If Gamel can be at least a league average 1B, they should be close to this year's club. They will miss Fielder's power, but they should have plenty of pop in that lineup. By 2012, maybe some of their minor league pitching starts to kick in, and if we can get something for Prince we should be competitive.
  10. I think the Brewers handled this well. They probably tested the waters enough to know Corey's value in the market. They didn't get any valid offers at this point. He appears to be undervalued in the marketplace since nobody believes his production is sustainable. They have a player who wants to be here, and they sign him to a reasonable contract. I give Melvin credit here. I also give him credit that despite a sketchy track record of FA signings, most of the terms have been shorter in nature and don't completely crush the franchise if they don't work out.
  11. There seems to be three schools of thought here: 1) Trade our Prince or Hart for rotation help for 2011. I just don't think that offer was out there. The availability of a Bumgarner type is probably not a valid assumption. Just like the availability of Grienke, Cain or Bucholz haven't been the last couple years. The next two come down to what you think the teams chances are to compete in 2011. 2) Trade Prince or Hart for lower level prospects. This is basically throws the towel in on next year, but could set us up if/when the lower level pitching emerges. 3) Unless #1 changes and they can improve the current team, keep them around and see how the first half of next year goes. The can probably get a backend starter for Hart if they feel comfortable enough with Gamel out there. They have plenty of payroll room to add some salary next year. Maybe they have better luck at picking up some decent pitching during the offseason. The odds are probably stacked against them, but not so much the situation is hopeless. The team could compete. My guess is they opt for #3. This is probably a .500 to slightly below team. One that's close enough if they just had one or two pieces to compete for a playoff spot. The offers for Prince/Hart are probably not that enticing now and won't be materially different during the offseason.
  12. The more trades I see like this, the more I can see why Melvin may wait to trade Corey or Prince.
  13. Loe already up...with a day off tomorrow, Macha likely to have a short leash with Narv-dog. He's got a fresh Loe, Ax & Villy plus Coffey only went 1/3 last night.
  14. Maybe Gallardo should bat fifth when he starts. I hear what your saying, I'm just a little reluctant to move Gomez or Escobar up into the 2 spot at this point. Hart has been killing it at #2 as well. He can use his speed a little too. If he was behind Prince on the basepaths he might wind up lapping him.
  15. They are really quite easy to tell apart...one is really good at baseball, the other one used to be.
  16. Granted, Hart is not in the lineup. However, who would you move up? That OPS is still better than Escobar, Gomez & Lucroy. Hart fits well at #2. It would be nice to move Rickie to #5, but I'm not sure Escobar or Gomez are ready to move up to the leadoff spot. Maybe Edmonds could bat fifth when healthy, but that's unlikely before year end. McGehee is probably a middle of the pack 3B, but I don't see a materially better choice hitting 5th or that the lineup is not one of the better ones in the NL. edit: Add ending
  17. The lineup is second in the NL in runs scored. They aren't the Yankees, but it isn't that bad of a lineup.
  18. Joe Inglett still throws harder than I do, and he has a lifetime ERA of 0.00. A blown save for Coco tomorrow afternoon and we'll call it even Brewers!
  19. Rickie's bionic wrists may have moved past Ben Oglivie on my all-time Milwaukee wrist list. Don't think anyone will ever catch Hammerin' Hank, but man has Rickie been impressive this year. Have to vote for Votto for MVP so far, but Rickie certainly deserves some votes.
  20. Thanks hawing...It may take years of therapy and medication to get that picture out of my head. Please beat that guy senseless tonight Brewers...it would make me feel better!
  21. As much as I'd like to see it, signing Prince is going to be almost impossible. Beyond the financial limitations, Prince/Boras seem dead set on shopping the market during free agency. There is no way the Brewers can let Prince get to that point. In FA, the odds are heavily against the Brewers. Two comp picks are just not enough. It is tough since we really don't know what offers Melvin will get. The odds of getting a Texeira-size haul don't look good. Too many teams now value cost controlled players in line with how the Crew views them. It almost makes me wonder if someone will get a decent deal signing Prince, but I just don't think we can wait to find out.
  22. I could see the Crew mounting a solid fake rally like the Astros did a couple years ago to finish at or above .500. There are some guys on this team that are having real solid years, namely Weeks and Hart. They've plugged some holes in the bullpen too. When we get quality starts, this team is in a good position to win. However, the starting pitching is still too erratic and bad. Outside of Yo, it's too much of a crap shoot. They can only go so far with this rotation.
