  1. Oh well, it's just mopup duty...Stetter won't be out there against righties in a real game.
  2. Good lord Betancourt...I know everyone said he was bad, but this is ridiculous. I'd start Counsell against righties. I think Betancourt just thought there were 3 outs there too.
  3. He had plenty of time to get in front of that ball. Just a lazy approach. Hart will be back, Lucroy will be back, Gomez makes up with his D...but Betancourt will continue to stink it up out there until he's replaced.
  4. It's never good when you see a pitcher wearing #61 in the fifth inning.
  5. I was fairly optimistic about Gomez given all the comments from the Brewers coaching staff before the year. I have no idea what they were seeing. At least he's a good fielder, but Yuniesky & Kotsay need to find another line of work.
  6. Casey had no other option there. Braun's bad angle on the fly was the real culprit...that and Wolf serving it up.
  7. This team's D has cost us 2 games. McGehee on Thursday and Braun out there today. The Milwaukee Schlitz played better D than these guys.
  8. Dear Carlos You did this last year...please remember you aren't a homerun hitter. Have a great season. Love, SoCal
  9. I got chills when I heard a Uecker homerun call during the commercial break...Cory brought me back down to earth when he said, "In right field batting sixth, Mark Kotsay" It's Opening Day...not even that can bring me down!!! I'm thinking Rickie walks to start the game.
  10. I'm getting the audio through Gameday, but for some reason the iphone App isn't connecting.
  11. If this team is healthy and within 3-4 games of first at the All-Star break, I'll feel really good about their chances. Baseball is always a blast when there is optimism about the season...whether founded or unfounded. I'm so jacked about this year...go get 'em Crew!!!
  12. It's not good when the first thing you notice about the lineup is that the pitcher should be hitting sixth...and not just because it's Yo. I think everyone in baseball is addicted to veteran grittiness even Roenicke, despite the statistical folly. It's not like the other options are great, but Kotsay should be on the bench...or better yet, the couch.
  13. On the last trip the Brewers were at that Sheraton (the one in the Back Bay). I stayed across the street at the Hilton Back Bay. It's a healthy walk to the park and close to the Pru Center. Fun area of town. It was also graduation weekend and may be the same this year. Boston hotels get very crowded with all the schools in town so booking early may be a good idea...especially at that rate. I went last time and won't be doing the trip this year, but I highly recommend it. It was a blast and there were a ton of Brewers fans. Fenway is what Wrigley could be with a coat of paint and a haz mat team...and less annoying fans of course.
  14. I wouldn't want to see Loe start. I'd rather try an AAA guy and hope for 4-5 innings, then Johnny Wholestaff the rest. I wouldn't want to risk a valuable bullpen arm by stretching him out too far this early in the season.
  15. I thought the overall article was a solid presentation of the bear case on the Brewers. Their two biggest problems they have are depth & defense and he highlighted both. I don't quite get the Mariners angle...last year seemed like trying to put lipstick on a pig from an absentee owner forcing Jack Z to make some short term stupid moves (or Jack Z trying to impress his absentee owner with said stupid moves). I think DM & MA properly played the hand they were dealt and had better cards to start. Within the division they are kind of the trendy pick...but so were the Reds last year.
  16. Saw a couple nice articles over the weekend on the Crew...maybe we could merge this with any other previous off-season article threads: Roenicke in LA Times Axford in New York Times
  17. I don't know if Luis Cruz counts, but I think he grabs that last IF spot. He could be a nice late inning defensive replacement for Yuni (although others may argue a replacement period). They will need to be careful about leaning on Counsell too much.
  18. As others have stated, it's all about price. If they get the arby years and maybe a vesting option for a FA year at a discount then it may be worth it. Casey could set himself up and get an upfront bonus which may mean a lot to him. There's probably a deal in there that both sides could agree on, but I wouldn't do a fair market deal just to do it when they have the extended flexibility they already have.
  19. Braun is cocky and may rub some the wrong way, but he seems to be well liked by his teammates. Lawrie had a horrible reputation as a clubhouse cancer in the minors. Granted, he's younger and may still mature, but his rep was there well before the Facebook pictures surfaced.
  20. It was around last year...very fun twitter thingy (or whatever you call it) that followed a day by day of the '82 season. They are doing the 1987 season this year...I'll be glued to twitter on April 15th & 19th for sure!
