  1. How unclassy of the Braun and the Brewers to cost Wainwright his 20th.
  2. To be fair to Bush, he had a 4.38 ERA before that Florida start. I believe the injury happened in the first inning of that game, so I'll cut him some slack for that loss. He also gave up 2 runs in garbage time relief in San Francisco before he took his turn in the rotation. Take those out and he was at a 4.12 as a starter before the Hanley Ramirez at bat. No all-star, but a capable #3. If you assumed a capable rotation of 1) Yo 2) Parra 3) Bush 4) Looper and 5) Suppan with at least a McClung circa 2008 fill-in when neccessary...it was awfully disappointing. Yo was fine although broke down at the end of the year, Parra was awful, Bush was hurt, Looper not great, Suppan was hurt and our best fill-in was Mike Burns with a 5.75 ERA. Yeesh. It's amazing they won as many as they did.
  3. "My excitement for Fielder's home run was slightly tempered when I saw who caught it. " I dare him to ask Prince for a trade.
  4. The backend of our bullpen was good this year. Take Hoffman out of the mix and it gets tougher. Maybe Coffey could close, but the options for set up get dicier. I'd try and hang on to as much of our backend bullpen as possible and hope we can get enough starting pitching to keep us in the game through 6. It's like trading Prince, it doesn't help to fill one hole if you just create another.

  7. I'm still pissed the Braves jilted Milwaukee when they left town (even though it happened the year before I was born). One of baseball's great tragedies IMO. They'll always be the carpetbaggers to me and my least favorite team...Go Rocks.
  8. Oh well...the Kendall homer was worth a chuckle. Looks like Stormy is starting to pitch his age.
  9. What is up with that mascot? I wouldn't let my kids near that thing.
  10. What were all the guys laughing at when Coffey came in? Everyone was cracking up...except Macha of course. Must have been Coffey's entrance.
  11. While they do have the positions covered, we don't really have a legit lead-off hitter. That is where Lopez becomes valuable. Escobar could be that guy someday, but he's not ready. If we had Lopez leading off that would allow them to drop Rickie down in the order. If he hit like he did earlier this year, he could be a #2 or a #5 behind Prince.
  12. Might have to throw Carlos Corporan a bone, he did hit 1.000 after all. Jorge Julio should get an F- and placed on double secret probation. Releasing him wasn't enough. He should have been required to serve some type of detention.
  13. I thought he did a nice job this year. He calls a solid game, plays a good Ed McMahon to Uke and does a decent job on the pre & post game shows. Overall a solid first year. I'd like some more pointed questions on some of the pre & post game shows, but they are team employees so I'm not counting on it. He does sound eerily like Jim Powell...that's not a bad thing either.
  14. I'd give the Red Sox more credit than that cwolf. Plenty of big money franchises haven't completely capitalized on their pocket books. Not just the Mets...look at the Cubs, Orioles and Dodgers. Certainly there's been some playoff appearances in there, but nothing like the Sox. Not only have the Red Sox been able to acquire the high priced talent, they have done a much better job of bringing up home grown players, a credit to their farm system.
  15. I'm not so sure about that Joe. Remember how bad the fielding was in 2007. Defense was the hole that year the way starting pitching was this year. Aside from getting Braun out of the infield, putting Cam in center was the most significant upgrade. With the bull case scenario on our starters as league average (a huge upgrade from 2009), they'll need good glovework behind them. I'd rather see them work something out with Cam. I guess I'd like to see an OF of Braun, Cam and maybe Lopez with Gerut as #4 with an IF of Prince, Weeks, Escobar & Gamel with Counsell back as the bench player. Lopez' flexibility could help too if we see an injury in the infield. I would see what Hardy, Hart & Casey can bring as far as starting pitching and plan on moving at least 2 of them. I would also rather take a shot with a couple younger higher ceiling guys than retreads like Looper (think guys like Manny Parra on other teams...wouldn't have worked out this year, but they need to take a chance) and as Ennder points out, at least put a couple mediocre replacement arms at AAA. Forget replacing Suppan, we really needed an upgrade to Mike Burns. Catcher needs a new direction too...Kendall has fallen way too far at this point.
  16. Still have it on my DVR...watched Braunie's homer again last night...(sigh)
  17. Great analysis Louis. No huge arguments from me. I might knock Braunie down to A-, just on his fielding. Same with Lopez for the mental errors. I might upgrade Counsell to an A...where would we have been without that guy this year? Can we give Prince something higher than A+, maybe A+ with honors? Outside of Yount in 1982, I can't think of a better season by a Brewers player and even that might be up for debate. Those grades really show the problem with the pitching. The back end of the bullpen was actually pretty good. The starters - 4 D's and a B...that will get you kicked out of school. With the run production, decent fielding and solid backend bullpen...I know there are plenty of better metrics to describe it, but they just need quality starts. If they had 1 A (Yo 1H), 1 B (Bush before he got hurt), 2 C's (Manny and Looper's replacement) and a D (Suppan is fine as a 5, as long as he's the only one)...they are probably in the hunt.
  18. Atta boy Braunie!!! Nice gift for the fans. Closing in on .500...not a bad consolation prize. These aren't the same Phils we saw last October. I can't see them getting past the NLCS.
  19. Nice save Trevor. Take your champagne elsewhere Phils...we've had enough water damage in the clubhouse this year. Untuck'em.
  20. Is it wrong that I was rooting for a save situation for Trevor?
  21. Great to see Prince make Lee pay for hitting Corey. The year of the Prince continues. One of the finest seasons by a player in team history.
  22. Here's the lineup from TH... BREWERS 2B Felipe Lopez RF Corey Hart LF Ryan Braun 1B Prince Fielder 3B Casey McGehee CF Mike Cameron SS Alcides Escobar C Mike Rivera LHP Manny Parra PHILLIES SS Jimmy Rollins CF Shane Victorino 2B Chase Utley 1B Ryan Howard RF Jayson Werth LF Ben Francisco 3B Pedro Feliz C Paul Hoover LHP Cliff Lee Have fun at the game tonight everyone. The wife and kids are out tonight so it's the Brewers and an ice cold one on the couch tonight in SoCal!!!
  23. I know everyone is up in arms that Gamel isn't playing right now, but the Brewers seem to have a plan for him. Take extra work during the day, don't put any added pressure on him after struggling at Nashville in the second half and save him up for winter ball where he will have plenty of plaing time. He's still a big part of the future and rightfully so. If they feel playing him right now won't help his development, I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.
  24. Gerut is really heating up. He would really give us a nice option for 2010. That Prince crush was huge...great to see Coop come up and give him the handshake pre-game.
