2007: Joe Thatcher w/ SD - 22 appearances, 1.29 ERA, 2.67 K/BB, .90 WHIP, 3.33 FIP (.217 BABIP) Scott Linebrink w/ MIL - 27 app, 3.55 ERA, 2.27 K/BB, 1.50 WHIP, 4.11 FIP (.340 BABIP) Granted, some of the difference could have been BABIP related and it's not like Thatcher has done anything since and Linebrink has had a solid career, but in 2007 - Thatcher was a better pitcher than Linebrink. That was the principal reason for the trade and it didn't work out. San Diego probably knew he was spent and our scouts missed it. Linebrink being our third best reliever speaks more to how bad the pen was than how good he was.
