  1. Well that was a fun game yesterday! Didn't see that outcome happening. Hopefully Rodgers can get healthy but it's going to be tough.
  2. My guess is Stearn's belief is that bullpens should be built year to year with a mix of free agents and young arms. Thornburg's value probably wouldn't have gotten much higher, so mind as well trade him now if there was a suitable offer. Seems like unless you have a dominant closer, it's really hard to count on consistency from bullpen arms. So maybe trading them after a good year is the way to do it???
  3. It's the job of the committee to pick the best 4 teams. As it stands now, conference championships don't give teams automatic bids. If Ohio St played the exact same schedule as the two teams in the conference championship, it would make sense. The problem with these super conference is they don't play the same schedule, therefore its left in the hands of a committee. That's always going to be messy. What is tough to swallow, is that Penn State beat Ohio State, but they don't get in. They beat them on the field, which normally means they are better, but not in today's world.
  4. how about barley leaves as the baseball stitches Love that idea!
  5. I think a lot of the tackling form issues comes from fear/hesitation/protecting an injury. A smaller player coming up to tackle a big powerful dude is not for everyone. Some of these guys are paid for other skills, other than tackling. Sometimes it's just survival. When you form tackle a big guy, you are exposing much more of your body, especially your shoulders. I really don't think it's as easy as people think. When that RB is coming down hill full speed and has his shoulder pads and helmet low, protecting most of his body, you don't have a lot of options unless you are just as big. Even then you're going to get a helmet in your chest. I think it's natural to put your head down.
  6. I think some people are hesitant to use a credit card because of past debt issues or just the fear of getting in to debt. I'm one that uses a credit card for everything and we have it automatically setup to pay the balance each month. As long as you are paying attention to what you are spending, like you would with a debit card, you will be fine. I understand why people might be hesitant to go this route, but if you are paying attention, there is no difference.
  7. I personally like having the two. I think when they are the same color scheme it's not as big of a deal to swap them in and out. I think of the Indians and O's when I think of teams having multiple logos. I'm in the minority it seems, but I welcome multiple uniform options..... minus the gold jerseys! Hate those.
  8. Thanks everyone! I looked at the spatchcock method but I think I will try to keep it simple the first time??? But I do want to try that next time. Anyone ever have a heritage turkey? Looks like a lot of people are saying that you don't need to brine that one because it has a higher fat content, and the breast isn't as big, so less chance of drying out. I'm still on the fence on doing a brine. Do you refrigerate while brining or just put it in a bucket with ice?
  9. Anyone doing a turkey on the smoker this year? I think I'm going to give it a try. Anyone have any tips or suggestions? Hoping it turns out good!
  10. Congrats and I hope it's a great time!
  11. I agree with that. I hated that last group of Cubs but have had no problem with this group. I have always chalked it up to the Brewers not being good right now, so I'm not upset when we lose to them. Ten years ago, we were up and coming and I wanted to always beat them so bad. I kind of have a feeling that will happen again in a handful of years. We will be up and coming hopefully, and they will be at their peak, or coming down from it. My hate may grow again!
  12. Question I have is, if the Brewers don't win a championship until well into the late 21st century and even into the 22nd, will there be stories, etc. about how THEY'VE gone 100+ years without a title? I suppose it would all depend on how many (if any) "heart-breaking" losses they have over that span, eh? Nope. Nobody will really care outside of WI and major baseball fans. That's the problem with baseball, in my opinion. There are very few storylines that grab the whole country. Interest level is so regional. Yankees and Cubs and Red Sox can grab the national audience, but not much beyond that (maybe LA?). I was thinking about all of this the other day, about how there could be a lot of cool stories about Brewers fans waiting a long time for a World Series, but nobody will really care. I'm happy for the real Cubs fans. The ones that are not just putting on a show, about how big of a fan they are. I am bummed though that this story is gone from baseball history.
  13. Just curious, what is Theo responsible for here versus what was in place when he took over. I have nothing to back this up but my initial thought was he's getting too much credit. I just don't remember what he's done compared to the previous GM.
  14. I'd just ask.
  15. Nottso - you mentioned the blue smoke. How do you get to that point? Is it by letting the wood chunks burn down some? I think that is my biggest problem, I've become gun shy with my use of wood (trying to use less and less) because I had a few pieces of meat come out bitter. I hate when the meat doesn't come out the way I want. You put all that time in and then it's not what you want. I need help getting back up on that horse!
  16. Wow, I've never heard of a group saying "we have enough volunteers." I would be pretty upset about that. Hopefully you can reach out to them and remind them of all that you've done over the years.
  17. This Playstation Vue is very interesting. Couple questions, does it have regional fox sports? Do you have to have a Playstation?
  18. Well this has been some entertaining baseball so far. Looking forward to the next round and seeing if the Cubs can come up with an epic way to lose.
  19. I feel for teachers. It's an age of trying to "hold them accountable" in ways that can be put on paper, and it makes no sense. Teachers have to do what they do best, teach in a way that fits them best. Two teachers should be allowed to teach the same subject completely different, as long as the kids are getting the message. Then when you throw in parents and the way they look at teachers, and you have a recipe for frustration. It used to be when a kid got in trouble, the parent would say be upset at their kid and discipline them. Now when a kid gets in trouble, the parent gets upset at the teacher and asks them what they did wrong (I will give credit to my Father, a retired teacher, who said that).
  20. haha that's pretty funny. I thought you were going to say your son had become a Jags fan instead of Packers!
  21. What's Kodi? I still don't know if I can cut the cord. I mean I know I could, but I sometimes just like browsing for random shows on random channels. I also worry about the loss of some sporting events. You always have to just say you want to cancel service so you get to customer retention. That's where things get accomplished. Sometimes it takes two times getting to them to get the action done. Example, first time I called, said I wanted to cancel, they started the process and then I said I will call back once I have a hookup date for cable and then do this. Called back, gave them the date that it would be setup. Told them this is what I wanted and why, and then I'd stay, otherwise it didn't make sense, and they gave me a good deal.
  22. I think you might be a able to get just red zone channel, but not sure. There are many services that offer the red zone channel as a stand alone option. I did get the Ticket for $150 this year. I forgot to update. I told them I had cable coming to hook up in two weeks and want to cancel my service for that date. I then told them my reasoning, and that I like the service but if I can't have Ticket I can't justify paying higher prices for DTV compared to the "deal" I'm getting on cable. This was my second call in and I have to say the lady I spoke with was wonderful. She also gave me some other discounts and some free movie channels for 4 months (which was the promo going on). I feel content with DTV now. It's a great service overall, but just can get pricey if you aren't on top of them.
  23. Exactly my thought!
  24. I don't mind the fluff pieces on prime time. I guess I watched a lot of it on DVR so could fast forward when needed. I like the other channels for the more obscure sports.
  25. Bummed for him. Ultimately it's his fault, but sometimes these things are beyond us, or hard to control. I read his apology last night and he took full responsibility it seemed. That's all I ask when a public figure comes clean. I wish him well.
