  1. I feel like I may have asked this before but wanted to again get some advice from you guys. I'm tossing around the idea of an iPad again (not sure which one). I keep looking at it like it's more of a toy than anything else and therefore not pulling the trigger on it. We have laptops at the house and those work fine for everything we do. I also have an iPhone so between the two I get what I need. Would love to here some opinions of people who are owners whether to buy or not. I do plan to have mlb.tv again this year so being able to watch on the iPad does get me excited!
  2. Ok, I'd really like to dig in to this more, but haven't done that yet. My gut reaction is to try and hold Muldonado for another year or two, then look to maybe trade him. Of course you never know what will happen in the next few years with either guy. I also think if someone comes knocking with a shipment of prospects for him, I'd listen for sure. I don't think we really should think about trading Luc, he's pure stud and cheap and I love that! Especially at a tough position to find offense. This thread kind of made me smile. Having two talented catchers is a nice problem to have!
  3. Ennder, I'm in the same boat with you. I don't think we can get a whole lot for Hart right now, and not anything that is going to help us this year. That being said I agree with you Monty. I would not mind trading him for a couple upside young guys. We may drop off a bit this year but I don't think it would be that much. If we can get a few guys that could end up helping us in a few years, I'm all for it. I don't think the drop off from Hart to plan B would be that huge in a season where we are not favorites to win the division, so any help to our farm system makes sense to me. I'd be a little gun shy trading him if this was an "all in" year.
  4. Just wanted to thank everyone for their tips on the weather before my road trip. We lucked out and missed anything on Thursday in Chicago. We left early and that was a big help. There was a tone of wind but just rain. We then drove early on Friday through WI. Man, madison was a disaster when we stopped for gas. There were traffic lights completely covered in snow that you could not even see when they changed! I've never seen that before. We did see over 10 semi trucks in the ditch from the night before between Janesville and Black River. I've never seen so many in the ditch and never seen more semis than cars.
  5. Really sorry to hear that Adam. I don't have experience and couldn't imagine. I'd just say talking to the ones you love and care about is your best bet! Hang in there!
  6. Like the move from my quick look. I just like that we are keeping spending down. Good stuff so far.
  7. And I have to say, the player had to be major league ready to handle that playoff season. And maybe not just ready, but ready to be a #3 type guy at least. Remember, with no Marcum that year, we probably don't make the playoffs.
  8. I'm driving from OH to Chicago and the plan was to stay there overnight. 2nd leg of the trip is the next morning. I'm just wondering if I'll only hit the storm just outside of chicago, coming up 65, or if it will be hitting a lot of IN.
  9. Ya the Marcum trade is hard to chew on for its short sidedness. I still say it gave us a great season and legit chance to make a run at a ring. I also think if Marcum stays healthy, we would have gotten some young talent in return for him last year. All that said, boy, it would be great to have Lawrie or a young stud on our staff because of a smarter trade.
  10. So I briefly looked at this storm coming, but I was curious if any of you weather guys had some thoughts on travel. I'll be arriving in Chicago anywhere between 7-9 pm on Thursday night. My plan is to leave to early AM and make my way to Mnpls. Do you think there will be major travel issues? Dumb or not, I feel pretty good traveling in storms and we do have a large all wheel drive SUV.
  11. "The scary thing for the Brewers is comparing our system to someone like St. Louis. Our lack of impact bats, especially at the upper levels, is painful." I think they concentrated on pitching for a few years because of the great offense we had in the majors. This could cause some offensive issues in years to come, but I'm hoping the pitching can carry us. We'll see I guess.
  12. Ya I see where you are coming from Ender. I never have a good feeling on our bullpen until I see them in action for a couple months, but even then the swings can be wild. Last year was a great example.
  13. Well said Monty! I do agree that it's time to trade Hart, I just worry nobody will offer anything worth taking and Melvin will not just give him away (which he shouldn't). It's very much the way the Twins have done if for years! I've always said that they are what we should be emulating. Problem is they went against the "Twins way" when they got stuck with the Mauer problem. If he was not from the city, there is no way they give him the big contract. They would have traded him away for a huge load of prospects. Of course the whole state would have been calling for heads if they did that. Now they are several years away from getting back to where they were. Developing young prospects and then trading them before they get expensive, to make sure the farm system is healthy, is what we need to aim for.
  14. You think 2/8 for Burnett was a bad cost move? I think that's been one of the best value signings of the FA period. (JMO) That's a valid example for sure! Maybe my previous statement was a bit aggressive. I just don't know if it's a wise move for us, that's all. I'd rather save the little extra money we have and grab a starter (as I've stated before, I'm all for going after a couple high risk, low cost guys to see if we can strike gold to go along with our young guys). Just my opinion as well
  15. Man, I really want some snow while I'm up in WI from for the next week and a half (leaving Fri). I really miss it down here in southern OH. It's just rainy and soaking wet (only working on my 2nd winter here). I know it's a pain in the butt sometimes but I do really miss the snow. Bring on the snow-nami!
  16. Well he is 38, but he's a knuckle baller, so age doesn't bother me too much. I did not know he's been so consistent the last three years. I was initially worried last year was not something you bank on happening in the future. I like this for the Mets, I would not give up much for a knuckle baller, but hey, it could work out well for both. To add to the Hart discussion, I really don't think there is that much demand for a guy like him. It's the right time to try a trade, and finding teams he'd extend with is a no brainer, but I just don't think he's worth much. I think we end up with him on the team this year because there is no strong buyer. This of course will make people angry at Melvin for not trading him for (in blue) Felix Hernandez.
  17. I would say predicting bullpen quality is about the hardest thing to do when it comes to a team. Ender, can you explain how we didn't have depth or upside with our bullpen last year? I could be wrong but I would think most people would say we did have depth and our closer the year prior was lights out. Just curious what you meant. No way would I want us to have grabbed any of the players that have been grabbed so far.... would not have been the right move for the cost.
  18. Like someone said earlier, put the check book away, hang up the phone for a month and let's see what's left. If we can grab a couple high risk guys (coming off injury, bad seasons) that have potential, we now have something I'd be happy to go in to the season with. Let's roll the dice and see if we can come up with a young pitching staff, maybe get a guy to come out of no where, and see what we can do.
  19. Man, I keep thinking about this randomly, this show has so much potential...it's unreal. I mean they could drag this on for so long, have so many different scenarios to deal with. They got to get the audience to connect more with these characters 1st. That will make everything so much better. Good show that could be amazing.
  20. I'm all for a young staff but I agree, I'm hesitant to go in this young for fear of overworking guys. Selfishly, I'd rather watch our young guys, with potential, go out and throw rather than some old crusty vet with no upside...but sometimes you need that guy as an inning eater.
  21. So may I ask, how people are making these? As in what program are you using. Sorry, not a graphics guy There are some very interesting ones submitted. Whoever showed the ball and glove with the current colors on here back in the day, that's my favorite! I think that would be money. I also liked the jersey that looked like a spin on the old Houston Astros rainbow jersey. Good stuff guys! Oh, love the MB mug with WI foam too!!
  22. Hope it works out!
  23. I really enjoy Fantasy Focus (ESPN). I listen to both football and baseball (I don't even play fantasy baseball but enjoy the show). CNET top 5 is ok. I would sometimes listen to best of Van Pelt, but I usually catch the show now. This one is really dorky but a podcast called Garden Fork is pretty entertaining. It's a DIY/Cooking/Gardening show. I can barely do anything when it comes to DIY but enjoy cooking and some gardening. He's from WI but now lives out east and most of his episodes are experiments on what he's doing. I can appreciate that it rarely goes right, but always ends up working. Like I said, not for everyone because he's kind of goofy, but non the less works for me.
  24. I think the problem here is a good rating of a market with X amount of people can still be reaching way less people than a poor rating in a market of Y amount of people. I also agree the businesses in the area have way less money to spend on advertising. Just tough for us to compete with other markets. It then makes every signing, draft, trade so crucial. There is way less room for mistakes, and that's why I think DM has done a great job with what he has to work with.
  25. My thoughts after sleeping on this: He was not on any sort of hot seat. The only thing I think he could have ran from was maybe Ohio St and Michigan. Maybe just thinking he could not out recruit them. Or that he thought there were too many limitations at WI. If his goal is to win a National Championship, he's got a lot more of a shot down there (despite us having a shot last year). All it takes is a lucky season with a solid team and you are in the national championship. It's not going to be easy but let's face it, the football is better down there right now. I don't know what type of coach we'll get. I think people are correct, WI is not a stepping stone type place but I also think it's in a second or third tier of desitnations. You can be solid here but there are definite limitations. I have faith we'll get someone that's good, but boy, I really have no clue who that is. How about the Sweater Vest!!!
