  1. He will fully cooperate with MLB, that doesn't mean showing the fans anything. For all we know he has already turned over some sort of proof to MLB. People need to just live with the fact that we don't know what happened during his appeal and we aren't going to know what happens with this. It is between MLB and Braun, we have no part in it.
  2. Not only is this the highest salary of any pitcher it was buying out 2 years he was already under contract which makes it even less of a home town deal. The actual extension is 5 years for a little over $135M or $27M+ per year.
  3. Some team would have been completely ripped off in FA so probably good that he kept pitching where he is.
  4. Not to mention why would Braun's bill be a range while everyone else just had a number.
  5. Will Carroll said it is completely believable and the list of people they consulted is a page long. He is also one of the guys who said there was more to the story and since he still supports Braun I'm guessing he knows more than what we do.
  6. Actually they have really struggled to prove that they do more than keep players healthier. Anabolic steroids pretty clearly build muscle mass but the stuff players use today we really have no clue on. If anything this list shows that they don't do a ton considering some of the names on it and how mediocre to bad they are.
  7. I can't see how this would change anybodies mind about Braun. If you thought he was a cheater before you still think it, if you were unsure this shouldn't change anything.
  8. While I agree that it is hard to fully believe Braun, it seems pretty unlikely that the guy let him keep a tab for years too.
  9. I'd love to see one of these players pursue legal action against yahoo for this story. The did no background research, made no attempt to corroborate anything. They displayed no journalistic integrity at all in the situation, just blasted it out as soon as they got it to get hits on their site. I mean the miami news didn't release these names because there just was no proof of anything, they at least showed a bit of integrity.
  10. What? Football has been testing for roids longer than baseball has. Obviously players in both sports still will look for ways to beat the tests. The testing policy in the NFL is a complete and utter joke. It is the minimum they can get away with and claim to test for it. The NFL is completely rampant with steroid use.
  11. Baseball made an effort to stop steroids, football chose to ignore it. For some odd reason that means steroids in baseball is the end of the world and in football it is no big deal. It makes no rational sense but then again some people watch soccer and that makes no sense either.
  12. I don't know what to think, but I think this opinion is completely silly given the state of the game. 50% or more of the players in the NFL use steroids of some type. In MLB it is almost certainly at least 33%. If Braun is guilty it doesn't really change anything except for the fact that I'm more worried about the intercostal injuries costing him time. Linking your 'heroes' to PED just isn't a big deal at this point since half of the players in the HOF cheated in some way. Sure you might try to claim that using a spitball or amphetamines isn't the same as steroids but the truth is they used whatever was available at the time. There is no difference.
  13. I don't know that I believe him and it wouldn't surprise me if he was a long term user. There is nothing in here that suggests a suspension though. It is just his name in a book with no real link to PED usage at all. I guess if someone at the clinic actually testifies against players there might be a case but just from this story there are no real worries.
  14. I believe his first name is really Tom but he doesn't give out his last name.
  15. Most teams have a guy like this now. Seems like every time I turn around some stats guy from a site I read is being hired by a team.
  16. Brendan Ryan Dee Gordon Cliff Pennington Cliff Barmes Brian Dozier Marwin Gonzalez Sean Rodriguez Josh Harrison Maicer Izturis Yunel Escobar Everth Cabrera That is the list of guys with a sub .650 OPS who played at least 200 PA at MI last year. There are another 15 that were sub .700 and that is just sorting by primary position SS, it doesn't tab some of the more pure 2B. I'm not going to complain about someone with a career .686 or .691 OPS who plays SS as our backup. Gonzalez is a little long in the tooth but the guys he replaced are nothing special either so not some big deal.
  17. The Brewers prospect list is poor right now partially because of trades going for it, partially because we graduated a number of good prospects last year and partially because the system is just young and young players don't get good ratings unless they are super star can't miss types which are rare. The thing that impresses me out of all of this is that the writer considers the Brewers winning 83 games to be a disappointment that we have to rebound from. It says a lot about the franchise that teams look at 83 wins for the team as a poor season instead of looking at 73 wins as a good one.
  18. Certainly that's the case for the numbers you gave, but that wouldn't be what was discussed in negotiations. The discussion would be $30M over 3 years or something like $50M or $60M or more over 30 years. Maybe and maybe not. To use Soriano the discussion very well may have been for 3 years at $27M and Boras said how about we do $28M but spread the money out. We have no idea how the actual discussions go. If I told my boss I wanted a raise at work and he said yes but we are going to spread the extra money out over 5 years instead of just this year... I'd still want the raise. I would fully realize the raise isn't as big as it sounds but it is still a raise.
  19. There probably isn't sufficient evidence for those two to be suspended though unless the feds have something other than what the papers got. They went into pretty gritty detail on what some of the clients used and how much it cost. Gio and Nelson were much more vague.
  20. Definitely they take it into account. All I'm saying is that a $30M deal over 3 years compared to the same deal over say 30 years is player friendly while the second one is team friendly. I'm sure the agents and teams realize this and that is why some contracts are structured the way they are. Soriano probably figures this is his last contract so didn't mind spreading it out some.
  21. I think if they thought Morris was ready they would be fine going with Gamel and just limping along until Hart came back with no other solid backup because if something goes wrong with both Gamel and Hart they still can just go with Morris. I mean Gamel is obviously tainted because of the injury so you just don't know his status.
  22. http://espn.go.com/espn/otl/story/_/id/8884955/mlb-investigating-south-florida-ground-zero-ped-war Manny, Colon, ARod, Grandal and Melky all linked to this clinic as guys busted for PED's. Gio Gonzalez and Nelson Cruz linked to it as players not busted. There are more names but these seem to be the big ones. All of the players appear to be latin and/or have a link to University of Miami which had me scared to death that I'd see Braun listed but I think that would have hit the news by now if it were the case. This second link is much much more detailed. So detailed I didn't have time to read it. http://www.miaminewtimes.com/2013-01-31/news/a-rod-and-doping-a-miami-clinic-supplies-drugs-to-sports-biggest-names/
  23. No they are not adjusted for inflation. That is why for example the Soriano deal isn't as bad as it looks. Any time the player defers money it eats away at the value of his contract and helps the team.
  24. The 1B talk says more about Hunter Morris than Gamel. Gamel hasn't played baseball on his reconstructed ACL yet so they have no idea if he is a viable option, this screams that they don't think Morris is ready. As for Lohse I'd take him for just the draft pick in an instant. He is a better pitcher than Looper or Suppan were. I would not tender him a significant contract plus the draft pick though. I mean if he wants to sign for $2M a year for 2 years plus the draft pick I'm on board.
  25. Jurrjens was more of a perfect storm pitcher than a good one. He had 2 seasons where all of his luck based stats favored him and then 2 years where they all completely betrayed him. He is probably a true 4 ERA guy if healthy so while that is nice and all it isn't the big upside people assume he has.
