  1. Nobody knows this, you might think it but nobody knows it and not everyone thinks it at all. This team has grossly underperformed on the season. They aren't good enough to be sure that they will rebound or anything but they should play better than this the rest of the year and likely over .500 barring trading away talent.
  2. Going into the season with Green and Gamel slotted to play every day would have been bad management. You can't assume a rookie is going to be able to play every day at the major league level, especially rookies who have never had full time play in the majors yet. But yeah the back end of our roster is pretty ugly right now. We had injuries and ineffectiveness in the exact areas where we had no depth
  3. He was never the centerpiece of anything. Cordero was the center of that trade. Cruz took 4 years to get full time playing time in Texas, has never stayed health a full season and has a career .295 OBP and .726 OPS outside of the 2nd friendliest hitters park in baseball, he is a terrible fielder and cost them a World Series title with his defense (though obviously his bat did enough to offset it). Corey Hart has been a more valuable player than Cruz since the trade and Corey Hart isn't a player I want to keep long term from this point on. I just want to make sure people are being honest about just how good Nelson Cruz is here. The Hardy trade was just horrible, I guess we figured his health made him too risky to keep but I still think the return we got for him was terrible.
  4. I think you need to get blown away by a deal to trade Greinke with the new deal in place. Teams are just not going to pay as much for rentals when they can't get a pick in compensation and teams aren't going to be as willing to give up a legit player when they can get a guaranteed solid pick for him if they don't trade him.
  5. Look this is how teams struggle every year, you can look around the league and find 4 or 5 other teams just like the Brewers. They seem to only score runs when they give up a lot of runs, they aren't winning a lot of close games, seems like most of the team has struggled to get things going. This is the Red Sox, this is the Angels, this is the Brewers, this is the Phillies. Meanwhile some teams seem to always get just enough every day and are winning a ton of close games, this is the Nationals, the Orioles, the Dodgers. These things will even out some over time and now really isn't the time to panic. The Brewers can't really sell off Aramis, they don't want to get rid of Braun or Lucroy. I should hope they are looking at extending Greinke and Gallardo if anything for the future. If we look dead in the water in mid June and they want to trade someone like Hart or Marcum who aren't really worth signing longer term I'm fine with it but that is only if a full month from now we are still sitting 7 or 8 games under .500. If the team turns it around at all they should not be sellers because the NL is not strong this year and it won't take much of a run at all to force our way into the playoff hunt.
  6. Pitchers were just as juiced as the hitters.
  7. This suspension is a joke, it should have been at least 10 games if not 20. The fact he dropped the appeal just says someone around him has a small brain because if MLB reduces that paltry penalty they look horrible.
  8. All I can ask of Melvin is don't over-react to a season where almost every player on the team has underperformed and make a stupid rash decision and give up on the next few years just because baseball is an insanely streaky game. Trading our best players for prospects because the team under performs for half a seasons would be terrible.
  9. I think you just greatly undervalue the BB. If you take out Clemente's early career where he was pretty mediocre and just look at his prime he had an OPS+ of 146 with a line of .331/.377/.507/.884. Truth is the guy just didn't walk very much. If you take out Henderson's late career and concentrate on his prime he had an OPS+ of 142 with a line of .291/.409/.449/.858. Their peaks were pretty close to the same with Henderon's maybe being a little more valuable since it is OBP heavy. Henderson's rate states take a small hit given the overall career but they get a big boost from longevity if you do that. I can't see how anyone can reasonably make a comment that they don't belong in the same discussion.
  10. It takes more than a full season of stats to make most baseball stats meaningful, there is no way to know what we have with any player based on this pathetically small sample of 2012.
  11. It should be 10 games but it will probably be 5 games.
  12. Yeah I am not completely against re-signing Gomez but I don't think you can build around him and I would imagine he would want a guaranteed starting job and I'm not sure we will give him what he wants.
  13. To be fair ESPN was completely irresponsible in the way they handled the Braun news in the first place so people are a bit more jaded about them than normal. They openly bashed him constantly in the first few weeks of the story.
  14. I don't think it is worth extending Hart or Weeks. Obviously we aren't going longer term with Gonzalez or Ramirez. Morgan, Gomez and Aoki are just sort of guys. That leaves Lucroy and the pitchers as the only legit long term signings. Marcum's nagging injuries are a concern to me and I don't like spending a lot of money on RP. That leaves Braun, Lucroy, Gallardo, Greinke as the only players I expect the Brewers to keep for a significant period of time at this point. I'm all for extending one of the only 4 players really worth extending on the roster at this point.
  15. It won't even out most likely because the season isn't long enough. They have been really bad in day games so far, to expect them to be really good in them from this point on out just so it evens out isn't very logical. Most likely they will play like .500 in day games from this point on and in the end of the season will have a poor record in them. To expect them to just keep being horrible in day games all year long isn't very logical either though.
  16. Within in the context of including my 1st post about it yes I do consider it tons easier. It is easier to get the calls right in basketball, I'm not commenting on the rest of it because the rest of it is completely subjective.
  17. Probably in between these two extremes. I don't expect him to be a superstar personally but he should be an all star and probably a little better than Hart.
  18. I would think you would be fired pretty quickly if you did this. At the very least you would be a terrible manager.
  19. No it was someone else, someone I didn't recognize by voice.
  20. So I'm watching MLB network and they are talking about the Twins getting off to such a bad start and saying that looking at the roster it shocks them that this team isn't winning a lot of games. The Twins roster looks pathetic, that could easily be a legit 100 loss team. What are they even talking about~.
  21. This comes as absolutely no surprise to me. Most managers don't share their reasoning for things with the media, they give them some cliche [expletive deleted by mod] answer and try to keep their reasons to themselves. No reason to tell your opponents why you do the things you do.
  22. Hart has been just as bad as Weeks lately. 6 for his last 42 now with 16 strike outs and a ton of ground balls.
  23. Hard to think his new level is going to be a .219 BABIP, even the slowest of catchers sits higher than that.
  24. Melvin is far from perfect but your expectations probably aren't very realistic either if you think 2 playoff appearances in 4 years and a competitive team for the past 7 years is somehow a failure. This is the second best stretch this team has ever had after all. He has made some moves I absolutely hated, some that I liked, he has found nuggets I wouldn't have expected to be major league quality players. He has gone out and gotten what the team needed in general even if I don't always agree with the players he picked. He has traded away talent the majority of which never turned into anything so it has been hard to complain about most of them at this point. The team has a bit of a hole in the minor league system right now mostly because of the Sabathia/Sheets debacle but overall I think the organization is in a pretty good state as a new crop of young talent should be arriving in 2014+2015.
