  1. I would be upset if they didn't build the team for 2013. It would be a complete blow to the franchise to go out of your way to waste a year or two of Braun's contract. The team has the core signed through 2013/2014, you have to aim to be competitive for those years. If you decide to play for 2014+ then trade Braun and do a real rebuilding. Just be ready to kiss part of the fanbase goodbye when you do it.
  2. I would like to see us finish around .500 which should send a message that this team really was a contender which just had a bad season. I don't think we should be playing for 2014+, we should be building a team for 2013 because we still have plenty of parts to have a playoff team in 2013.
  3. I'm not saying this might not be the future results but the results so far are nothing at like Bush. Bush was a guy who was a completely slave to his BABIP because of pedestrian K/9, a low BB/9 and a high ISO against. Estrada isn't really all that much like this other than the higher than normal ISO which does make him a bit extra susceptible to the hard hit ball. Estrada has established an elite K/9 in the majors and shouldn't be considered a fringe type from his results so far at least.
  4. Good move and not because I hate Wolf or don't think he can be productive but because we are a team that has to catch lightning in a bottle to compete next year and there are just better options for that. We don't need mediocre veterans we need high upside players who hopefully will come through for us.
  5. yeah I did. I'm not saying no pitcher ever pitches to a sub 4 ERA. I'm just saying it isn't fair to expect it in their first full season. Blackly isn't a very fair comparison since he is 30 and made his major league debut back in 2004, not exactly the same type of guy. Parker has an xFIP of 4.08 and is mostly keep his ERA down by playing in a division that suppresses HR significantly, so not sure I see him as a better than 4ish ERA guy. But again I'm talking about expectations and not results. Rogers could easily come out and be a stud next year but it isn't fair to expect it. Most young pitchers take a few years to reach their true talent in the majors.
  6. It really isn't fair to expect a sub 4 ERA from any pitcher in their first year, even really high upside ones. Getting a 4 ERA out of Rogers and close to a 4 ERA out of Fiers would be huge for next year. We already have more or less a full lineup in place, that would give us a full rotation and then we just have to fix the bullpen.
  7. Too bad they forgot to test Miguel Cabrera.
  8. If you don't do it for at least 2 full seasons it most likely isn't for real. History has proved that.
  9. I would rather have 200 great innings of RP than 200 great innings of SP. So if your question was say Maddux or Rivera and Hoffman it would be tough to answer. Closers are overrated, RP are underrated, RP are also the most grossly misused asset in baseball.
  10. Bailey was an injury waiting to happen, Cahill is a product of the pitchers park and Gonzalez hasn't been able to stay productive for a full season yet. The A's aren't really contenders at this point either, they are a team that has massively overproduced and still will likely miss the playoffs. This post is all full of fail before it even gets to its main point. There are two paths the Brewers can go down. #1 is they can try to win in 2013 and #2 if they get as much as they can for Braun and Gallardo this offseason, there is no in between. Keeping Braun and or Gallardo is just idiotic if they don't think they can win next year.
  11. I'm baffled by what part or the Sheets situation you think was lucky. He didn't get burned on K-Rod at all, he took a slight risk to try to win a World Series and we had the best team in the NL but failed when the important part of the year came. This post seems completely silly.
  12. Ramirez is on his way to another 4 WAR year so if anything he is being underpaid right now. I'd like to have seen Hart traded but oh well. To be honest he probably has more value in the off-season than right now anyway.
  13. Probably a 7 or an 8. The fact we got something useful for Kotteras is amazing. We got a really solid package for Greinke too.
  14. Not to mention a legit candidate for MVP and the pitcher they traded could have worked his way into the CY race with a good final 2 months.
  15. The funny thing is you could probably take the 5 worst full time RP in baseball and stick them out there and expect to have better results than we have seen in the past 2 months. It baffles the mind just how horrible this stretch has been.
  16. Considering none of us see what goes on day to day I find it hard to assume this is just a scapegoat. Maybe he did a bad job, maybe players didn't get along with him, who knows.
  17. I think we need to bring in a reliable RP(like how the Reds traded for Marshal last year). I'm all for going with young guys too but we need one reliable RP to go with what hopefully is a rebound from Axford. I'd probably be looking to trade Hart and let Aoki play full time next year. We still have a largely playoff capable roster so I wouldn't be going too crazy with the roster. If Marcum isn't back I'd look at a FA established starter as well since we need more than just Gallardo at the top end.
  18. I saw an honest post from someone who said the reason the Brewers stink this year is because we lost Counsell and his leadership. People have all kinds of really odd opinions.
  19. I'm happy with the deal. All 3 players project to be major league players though none as all stars. That is better than the 32nd pick in the draft or whatever we were going to get instead. Hellweg is 6'9" and throws hard but doesn't seem to get the strike outs you would expect, not 7 feet but close.
  20. Probably the most ignorant statement I've seen posted on this forum in a long time. His defense is more based on positioning and arm strength but his range has always been at least average. His range is miles ahead of guys like say Betancourt.
  21. The injury risk is too much for me unless it is a 1 year deal.
  22. I think a comparison to the Bucks is unfair considering they made the playoffs twice in recent memory and both teams probably had the rosters to make a serious run at the world series, they just didn't play very well either time. The team had a terrible season but as long as you have a solid core I don't think you blow the team up just to blow it up. Maybe if next year were the last for Braun and Gallardo that would make sense to just sort of give up but the way the team is set up right now you have to still try to win during this window.
  23. It is based on bad misleading useless park factors is where the biggest difference is coming. Target field kills left handed power hitters but doesn't really bother RH pull hitters so Willingham gets a significant adjustment to his OPS because his park hurts players that aren't like him. You can pretty much throw out the window any stat that says it is adjusted for park factors because they aren't any better than stats that aren't adjusted at all.
  24. We had a bad year but absolutely gutting the team would be a terrible move right now. This team is not a sub .500 team and it wasn't a 96 win team last year. The range of outcomes for a team season to season is just huge so if you can put even an 81 win team on the field you have a definite shot at the playoffs. Out of the established guys the only one I'd like to move is Hart and that is because with Aoki playing so well he kind of becomes expendable and he has some good value. I wouldn't trade Aramis though or Axford and probably not Weeks. Definitely none of the younger guys who we have for 2+ years still. You can't waste years of having Braun with rebuilding, you have to try to field a competitive team.
  25. Clubhouse cancer pretty much. Infante was not part of their future. Sanchez was walking at the end of the year. Ramirez is bad for the team outside of his production. It makes sense to me.
