  1. I find it hysterical that the Cubs think they have endured more this season than the Brewers have. Only 7 teams in baseball had less of an impact by injuries than the Cubs this season. The Astros are the only playoff team impacted less by injury. Yes a couple of a the Cubs injuries were high profile but as a whole their team has been exceptionally healthy.
  2. Why imagine that lineup with an eye towards 2019 when it could be done right now ? OH, I wish, but Arcia's there. He's rapidly overtaking Jim Gantner as my all-time LEAST favorite Brewer. Same reason - an offensive black hole. You seem to have forgotten that Yuni B was a Brewer and actually started way too long for them.
  3. Game 163 counts for that right? So not only would he have an extra game, but snatch the RBI lead from Baéz, in person ... lol Yeah, game 163 stats count and you get the expanded roster because they are not considered playoff games. The Wild Card game is very clearly a playoff game and none of that counts.
  4. If there's one player that will want to treat tomorrow like it's game 7 it's yadi. If there's one player on that clubhouse you don't want to piss off, it's yadi. At least that's the straw I'm grasping at. If the Packers were eliminated from playoff contention in week 17 & played the Bears, who were playing for qualifying/seeding, would the Packers run out a crap lineup? I think the Cards will be plenty motivated for tomorrow. There is a difference between tanking the game on purpose and just not quite being fully motivated. The last game of the season when you thought you had made the playoffs and then crapped the bed the final week easily could lead to a big letdown where players just aren't giving the 100% they wish they could give. I also feel like the Cardinals are sort of a lacksadasical team so they are more susceptible to this than most. (and no that certainly is not the Cardinal way but it seems to be true).
  5. And the NL West is the exact same situation barring a huge comeback by the Rockies.
  6. Historically speaking this just hasn't been the case. The MVP doesn't tend to just favor big market teams. Last year someone on the Marlins won, the year before someone on the Angels (west coast), the year before that a canadian, the year before that west coast, the year before that Pittsburgh etc. They certainly don't always get it right but storylines dictate things more than fanbase. Yelich is winning the storyline awards this year, especially if he manages the triple crown tomorrow.
  7. I don't believe Khris Davis has to be considered awful for not thinking he is in the MVP race. There is a very large area between awful and the best. Khris Davis is an all star level player and most teams would do better having him on the team. He is an awful fielder, he is a poor baserunner, he has a poor batting eye, he has prolific power. All the little negatives just eat away at the one positive so it isn't as valuable as it looks.
  8. Yeah Khris Davis is not one of the 5 best players on his own team much less in the MVP race. It just goes to show how right the Brewers were to trade him, he has hit about the best stats you can hope form him and he isn't even a 3 WAR player. I just wish they had waited another half year and gotten more for him.
  9. They couldn't have looked more flat and uninterested than they did today. I sure hope something snaps and they put up a better fight the final 2 games.
  10. Probably because he is a free agent after this year and he may even retire so they are going to give him every chance to go as deep as he can. I totally get it. So that's the priority over a playoff race for them? It is a marginal choice either way. Their bullpen has been awful, he's a good hitter, his pitch count is low etc. This is just a tie breaker probably.

  12. It would be very Brewer like to play good enough to force a game 163, lose that game and then have to play the wild card game without a rested team.
  13. That is unfortunate because I think the most likely positive result at this point is a 1 game playoff for the division which just hurts both teams.
  14. Seriously ERA is about the 20th stat I go to for how someone pitched. What is your #1 I personally like bbFIP which is an xStats component ERA. But for a bit more simplistic stat I like K%-BB% or K%/BB%. I can't decide which one seems more reliable. Both of those stats suffer from not taking quality of batted ball into account though.
  15. The result which was 0 ER which is ERA. Say it all you want but all you focused on was the ERA, not how he actually pitched. I mean sure if you want to be super shallow the results were great, doesn't mean his pitching was great. It takes 500 innings before ERA means anything at all, so any time you are focused on the runs allowed as the result in a single game you are on shaky ground. The results really mean very little when you consider how someone actually pitched for a single game.
  16. You would be, I would not. Seriously ERA is about the 20th stat I go to for how someone pitched. I'd be happy with the result but I would understand the result has nothing to do with how the guy actually pitched. ERA over a 7 IP sample is completely worthless. I didn't say anything about ERA. I guarantee this board would ecstatic with any one of our starters throwing six shutout innings. No question. Which means you just said something about ERA. You focused on the 0 ER. You can get 0 ER and pitch like hot dog garbage. The two aren't related. Lester did not pitch well tonight, he just had a lot of hard contact right at guys.

  18. I disagree. The runner and the ball were on an almost identical path, the catcher is in the oath because he is fielding the ball. I went back and watched it. Cervelli was already straddling the line when the LF let it go. This also shouldn't matter. If your throw is so bad it pulls the catcher into the lane it is your teams fault and you should be penalized for it.
  19. Yeah the announcers saying Lester had a good start are the type of people who don't really understand baseball at a macro level. This was a really mediocre outing that he got lucky that balls didn't find holes at the right time.
  20. Cubs can easily go 3-0 and the Brewers can easily go 1-1 or it can go 2-1 and 0-2. It is even plausible the Cubs go 0-3 and the Brewers 2-0. Add up the odds of those combinations happening and it is probably somewhere between 25% and 33% chance.
  21. Makes sense. There is a decent chance that Sunday is a completely meaningless game.
  22. Harold Reynolds is such a tool when it comes to the shift. He won't ever give it credit for an out but every single time it fails he makes sure to bring it up and blame the shift for the hit.
  23. I would say this is correct. If I were in change of baseball stats the first thing I would do is add a win to the Brewers at which point we clinched a spot. The second thing I would do is add a loss to the Cardinals which then would make the Cubs clinch.
  24. That's cool and all but you are just wrong. It is officially classified as a playoff game by the sport so it is a playoff game, additionally the stats count towards your playoff stats and not your regular season stats. The tiebreaker game to reach the wild card is not classified as a playoff game and the stats count towards the regular season.
