  1. I think he knows he has to wait longer to make a move. The team has played great, played poorly, played great and played poorly. All this talk about the disaster second half is just nonsense as are the but we have stunk since starting 24-10 comments. If we had started poorly, played great, played poorly and were playing great now we would still just be a .500 team. Everyone is negative because we are on a bad streak right now. What happens in the last 1/5th of the season is going to dictate what Attanassio does, not just what has happened in the last 30 games. This team has the talent of a roughly .500 team, the team has a record of roughly .500. We are doing about what was expected out of us, hard to fire the manager mid season when that holds true. I'm sure he's extremely frustrated by the play of the team lately but he is a smart guy and I'm sure he knows that baseball is a very streaky game, patience is the name of the game for making a smart move at this point.
  2. Its a hard trade to judge since Jennings got hurt. I still think he's the best player in that list when healthy.
  3. We had a great first 20% of the season, lousy second 20%, great third 20%, lousy fourth 20%... if the pattern holds we make the playoffs. Of course the first lousy 20% was against good teams and the second lousy 20% was against scrub teams so my optimism is down a bit. Breaking the season into actually fifths lets take a look: 1-32 - 22-10 (12 games over) 33-64 - 12-20 (8 games under) 65-96 - 20-12 (8 games over) 97-128 - 11-21 (10 games under) 129-130 - 0-2 (2 games under) 131-162 - ???? Which team are we to finish the year? I wish I knew.
  4. The problem is its not a year long pattern. Bush hasn't blown a game in the 6th or 7th since the first week in June and that was a walk and two singles followed by a bullpen meltdown. You have to go back to May until he really had a bad 7th inning. He gave up a 2 run HR and everyone suddenly remembers April and May and say he now has a pattern of falling apart even though those are the only two months in his entire career that he struggled late in games, its just silly.
  5. I wore packer shirts for the two wins against the diamondbacks but then I wore a Brewer shirt and they lost. I then went back to packer shirts but the mojo was already broken.
  6. That is a very valid opinion and I have no problem with it, the argument is that what Yost did isn't bad either, its a judgement call. If we replay this game 100 times I'm positive he hits a HR in less than 15% of them and gets him out at least 50% of the time and most likely more than that, if you want to blame someone for that inning you have to put the blame on Bush for not making his pitch and the C for hitting it out, I dont' see how you blame Yost.
  7. Rock bottom #1 was after a 10-20 losing streak, we are now 9-21 in our last 30 games. After the last rock bottom we came out and went 14-4, lets pray we do the same this time.
  8. Bush had given up 3 hits at that point, only one of them was hit hard at all. He was under 80 pitches, it was the bottom of the order. He does not have any history of struggling late in games for his career and for this season he hasn't had a problem since late May. So while yes your point that the bullpen was rested and could take over is valid the counterpoint is that Yost most certainly did not do anything wrong by leaving Bush in. You can make a strong argument that using the bullpen is a good choice, but I don't see how anyone can make a good argument that leaving Bush in was a bad choice. The only way to make that argument is to use hindsight and point at the fact he gave up a 2 run HR to someone who had never hit a major league HR before. I just don't see how you can point at that decision and say that Yost is a bad manager because he left in Bush, that opinion makes absolutely no sense to me at all. I have NEVER in 20 years of watching baseball seen a manager pull an established starting pitcher at under 80 pitches with a 2 run lead and a 3 hitter going after 6 innings but to some in this crowd it proves Yost is a moron.
  9. Pinella seemed completely lost earlier this year too while the Cubs were struggling so badly. I think Yost has probably reached the point where the team has played so poorly he has no clue what to do, its not unique to Yost its just how things are with a team that is playing well below the level they should be for a really long time.
  10. I'd be much more comfortable with firing Yost mid season if we had an in house prospect for manager next season. Giving a 32 game trial to someone else to see if they are ready or not would be worth firing Yost prematurely. I don't think we really have that though unless they wait until the Sounds season is done and make Kremblas the interim manager.
  11. I wouldn't think they would want to fire the GM after the 1st season under a new manager so I'm guessing it would be a two year window for him to get it done.
  12. http://forum.brewerfan.net/viewtopic.php?t=7602 That topic is about Melvin so I think you'd get better responses to the question in it. I would doubt Melvin gets fired, they'll blame it all on Yost and move on at this point. I'm guessing Melvin would get at least 2 more years before they start thinking he can't get them over the hump.
  13. I don't know what he is doing now but if he were to type what he thinks of the situation in a post on this forum I bet he'd get banned for breaking the cursing rules.
  14. From a hitting standpoint I think we have had a pretty big upgrade. You have to keep in mind the 2005 lineup was largely a veteran bunch while the 2007 lineup is mostly kids who are in theory going to improve over the next couple years. The 2005 lineup also had a number of guys put up better than normal years and really nobody slumped that season. From a pitching standpoint I'd prefer to look at something other than ERA. 2005 - .251/.324/.408/.732 wtih a .289 BABIP 2007 - .269/.332/.426/.758 with a .310 BABIP The pitching hasn't improved at all but I don't think its really worse either. The biggest difference there is in BABIP which is probably a combination of luck and bad fielding. This team is almost certainly a downgrade in fielding from what we had out there in 2005. The young pitchers are going to start making more of their mark next year when I assume at least two of CV, Gallardo, Parra are in the rotation. The team has put up about the same stats while getting younger across the board with much more potential overall. I think next year you'll see another jump in hitting and pitching and depending on off season moves I see this team as being an 85ish win team next season. This year I had them pegged right at 82 and I think this team has probably as many ior more underachievers than overachievers.
  15. He pitched fine in the 7th on August 16thHe pitched fine in the 6th on August 10th He pitched fine in the 6th on July 21st He pitched fine in the 6th on July 16th He pitched fine in the 7th on July 6th He pitched fine in the 7th on June 23rd Etc, etc. In fact you have to go all the way back to June 4th to find a game where he melted down in the 6th or 7th inning. He's been yanked after giving up a hit a couple times when he was right up around his pitch count. There is absolutely no reason that Yost should have pulled him there. Just because he gave up a string of big innings in the 6th/7th/8th back in April/May does not mean you have to yank him at 70 pitches in the 7th.
  16. At least the Cubs lost too... I'm pretty sick of that being the highlight of my day, only being as bad as the Cubs.
  17. Sorry, I can't help it. When I see a post that is based on fuzzy facts/logic I can't help myself but to respond to it and I'm bored at work. Unfortunately a good 50% of useful posts discussing the team are in this thread now since the team gives so many good reasons to vent at them.
  18. No five years are not enough and you are looking at the wrong thing for judging the results in the first place. This entire franchise has seen a complete turnaround from top to bottom. Five years ago our major league roster was a complete joke and our minor league system was considered pretty weak overall. On the other hand Melvin built a good team in Texas but wasn't able to get them over the playoff hump either. I was much more impressed with his rebuilding trades than I am with his more recent moves. The Suppan deal was pretty obviously for too much money, the Linebrink deal was just ok at best and thats with me not being high on Inman. Most of his deals involving vets have been kind of shaky.
  19. In 2006 he had a .649 OPS against the 3rd time through the order, in 2005 he had a .588 OPS against the 3rd time through the order. For his career he's at a .756 OPS against 3rd time through the order vs .744 OPS against total. Seems he must have lost the gene somewhere. When you reduce a stat to a 200 PA sample you aren't going to get meaningful data, Bush has been bad the 3rd time through this year but its not something he has shown a long term problem with and its most likely just variance. No manager in baseball takes him out there, not one. I have never seen a manager take out any full time starting pitcher after giving up just 2 runs on 3 hits at a 70 pitch count, especially with the bottom part of a weak order due up. I don't care how good or bad the pitcher is.
  20. Indians for the AL, Diamondbacks in the NL. We should be better than the Diamondbacks, our SP are as good on paper, our offense is better and they weren't supposed to be a strong defensive team. As it turns out they have played over their heads most of the season and our team has crashed and burned.
  21. You won't be able to find a manager in baseball that would have replaced Bush the way he was pitching and with his pitch count. I know its the vent thread but give me a break, I'm so tired of all the posts blaming every single loss on what move was or wasn't made. We lost the game because we failed to score runs outside of a 3 run HR, because our defense missed some key plays and because Bush caught too much of the plate with one pitch, not because Yost left a pitcher who was cruising and at 70 pitches stay in the game to face the bottom of the order. Having said that I still think Yost needs to go at the end of the year if we don't end up with a winning record. I defend him because he's not as bad as people try to make him out to be but I don't raelly see much good about him either. The one good thing about him is supposed to be that he motivates the players to play better but I'm just not seeing that.
  22. This year was the first year anyone has said 'if Ben Sheets can stay healthy'. In 2005 he had no injury problems to speak of, in 2006 people didnt' expect him to start the year healthy as the recovery time on his injury was 8-12 months, it shocked me when he started a game before the all star break last year and obviously it was rushing things. Personally I won't be saying it next year either, this finger thing is just a normal pitcher injury so not worried about it repeating. He will be over a year removed from any arm troubles and the injury made it so he didn't see 200+ IP which would have been a significant worry to me.
  23. Ten years ago kids in little league/high school would throw 120+ pitches on a regular basis, many of them would blow out their arms at a young age, plenty of them were just fine. Should we just have ignored it because some are fine or do you think its a good thing more and more leagues are limiting their pitches now? Ignoring something that statistics back up and is common sense just because there is no guarantee he'll get hurt is not a smart move. I don't want Gallardo getting injured just because some fans are too impatient to build the team the right way. The playoffs would be great this year but I don't think this team has any chance to go deep in them and the goal is to field a good team year in and year out.
  24. Hart has been injured...
  25. Brewers had a .489 first half and a .431 second half last year with a better run differential in the 2nd half. In 2005 they had a better record in the 2nd half than the 1st half. In 2003 they had a better 2nd half than 1st half. I don't care if Yost is fired or not and I personally lean towards letting him go but I disagree with your reasoning.
