  1. Barfield has an OPS down around .600 and he's still starting every day for Cleveland. I don't mind them sitting Weeks if they think its physical but if its just mental he needs to play to get through the slump.
  2. He actually did, when they dug into his shoulder they found damage that would have shut down almost any other pitcher in baseball. The fact he was able to pitch through it at times is a testament to how good his delivery and body really are.
  3. Gallardo and then when Sheets comes back Vargas to the pen. Baby Gallardo and don't let him go deep into games, try to always keep one of the CV's ready for a long relief stint in his starts.
  4. We get to face one of the worst RP's in baseball! Unfortunately we have two of the worst hitters in baseball(right now at least) coming up!
  5. Depends on the other options, if it means starting Gwynn or Mench all year I'd gladly do it.
  6. Weeks with a .269 OPS for the month now!
  7. There you go, no need to put lipstick on farm animals now as fun as it sounds.
  8. The same Lopez who had 5 starts with 1 or 0 ER's last yaer and 9 starts with 1 or 0 ER's the year before. Bad pitchers still have good games and we've hit the ball pretty hard, it just hasn't fallen in yet.
  9. Yeah a lot of the bandwagon is now saying "I knew they weren't for real" and "same old Brewers". I dunno what to think, the team is playing pretty poorly, the team MVP from last year is injured and now the "Ace" could be hurt, things don't look good. I thought the same thing about the Cubs a month ago though and it seems like they haven't lost a game since.
  10. I dunno about that, Hall has very nice range too. With him it would all be about whether he got a good read off the bat or not.
  11. I can't imagine the 2nd half getting off to a worse start than this.
  12. He has 23 BB's in his last 43 IP or 4.8 per 9 IP. He is walking too many guys lately. He also has a 7.74 ERA over that stretch and a .954 OPS against. Since coming back from the injury he has 8 BB's in 11.2 IP with a 10.03 ERA and 1.056 OPS against. I'm guessing that he isn't fully recovered though there isn't sure fire proof of that.
  13. I think its just a sneaky way to say the team has a low OBP. If our team had a higher OBP we'd probably score more without extra base hits, but unfortunately we have a lot of low OBP guys in the lineup any given night. Mench, Estrada, Weeks while he's struggling, Hardy since mid May, Jenkins vs lefties, etc.
  14. 1 quality start in the last 11 games, that pretty much sums up the problems lately. Suppan and Capuano need to get it together pretty soon or we are going to lose the lead.
  15. Yes we do because earlier in the year Bush wasn't bad but everyone was up in arms over him because he was unlucky and they were clinging to ERA as their stat of choice.
  16. There really is no answer to this question is the problem, unless you can predict the future there is no way to know. Maybe Capuano has 'lost it' and he will suck all year long, maybe he's just had some bad luck and will be fine, maybe he has 'lost it' for now and will 'get it' back next week and be fine. There really is no way to know, you have to assume he'll revert back to his 3 year averages in my opinion and his 3 year averages say he's a decent starter.
  17. He most certainly is walking too many and that is going to be doom for any pitcher, especially one who only has mediocre stuff to begin with. I mean at this point I'd still take Capuano and suppan over Marquis and whomever the cubs 5th starter is this week, but over the past month or so that is mostly certainly a huge advantage to the Cubs. Pitching is just all over the place.
  18. Pitching is wierd like that though, its really hard to say just dump suppan/capuano when they have had past success because pitching is disgustingly streaky in general.
  19. I dunno, in my informal studies done for fantasy purposes most players seem to K more, BB less and not be as good at situational hitting when they first get into the league. You could call improving these things just getting better and it would make sense to me as well. They also have more problems dealing with a slump as it seems more common for a rookie to just fall off a cliff than it is for a more established player. Call it what you want but I expect the youth on this team to be better in the next few years than they are now and since thats the backbone of the team I expect the best years to be in a couple years.
  20. The Angels dumped a couple guys that people thought were bad signings to begin with though. I agree with others, there is no reason to move CV to teh rotation. Eventually you move Gallardo in to replace Vargas and you are set. CV is one of the few bullpen guys I have a lot of faith in, I just don't see a compelling reason to change his role again.
  21. Thats not what I said, I said he had been injured less than a year before they signed Suppan. They had to be thinking of that injury at least a little bit when they signed Suppan. I don't personally think he's any more likely to get hurt than Capuano or the young guys myself. Bush and Suppan strike me as more durable since they don't throw quite as hard and have pretty nice deliveries.
  22. This teams best season will likely be 2009 or 2010 and my money is on them being better next year than this year. Doesn't mean we aren't contenders this season its just that we still have a lot of young guys who are going to get more consistent as they reach their prime years.
  23. Sigh what? Its been less than a year since he got hurt its the simple truth. I'm willing to bet if Sheets is healthy all of 2006 we aren't as eager to sign Suppan in 2007.
  24. We had Sheets who is less than a year from an injury, Capuano who has a history of arm problems, Vargas who hasn't had a good year in the majors yet, 2 rookies who may or may not be good starters this season. I think signing Suppan was a very good thing to give us stability in the rotation. I still think we paid a good $5-10M too much but oh well, its not my money.
