  1. I mean, 1 day off, sure, but the guy is still OPSing like .950. And that’s great but he just doesn’t look right. His last whole month he is batting .214 and in his last two weeks he is ops’ing about .530 The all star nomination might’ve done more harm than good with him. This is cool and all as long as you realize how silly it is? Baseball is so darn streaky that trying to pin a good stretch or bad stretch on something like this is completely worthless. Since the HR derby Harper and Hoskins have been hot, it doesn't mean the HR derby fixed those guys and wrecked Aguilar. That is trying to fit the story to the results and nothing more.
  2. Sometimes, the old school diehards with their talk of "chemistry" and "momentum" and "energy" just might be on to something. There are more things in heaven and earth, TPlush, than are contained in your philosophy... Yep these things are all true except when they aren't. If a move works it gets called chemistry and if it doesn't you just don't talk about it. The teams chemistry has not changed because of Moustakas, that is simply absurd to say after half a game.
  3. I'm not completely sold on Hamels being below average back in the NL with a good defense behind him. It is still nice to see that they have done nothing but make bad moves since winning the World Series. People get on me when I say this but the Cubs looked like the next big dynasty a few years back and now they look like a team that is just a playoff team hoping to luck into more with very little to trade for what they need. They have a lot of good controllable talent but the team just doesn't seem special the way the Astros do at this point.
  4. Unfortunately I watched all of Zambrano throwing his no hitter in Miller Park.
  5. Braun Perez Thames Saladino Arcia Shaw Kratz Moustakas I guess that is the surrender lineup(not in order)? Still not too bad of a lineup.
  6. Anyone complaining about today's lineup I bring you the Brewers lineup 2 years ago today. 1. Jake Elmore 3B 2. Scooter Gennett 2B 3. Hernan Perez SS 4. Cris Carter 1B 5. Kirk Nieunhwiess RF 6. Martin Maldonado C 7. Keon Broxton CF 8. Ramon Flores LF 9. Zach Davies P
  7. I hope Broxton comes back up for the next Cubs series. He always seems to hit them and they are all lefties atm.
  8. I know this is sarcasm but it is hard to read meaning on the internet sometimes as well. Harper was a catcher prospect, he moved off of catcher because they wanted to protect his health and get him into the majors faster. Harper really probably could play catcher if they really wanted him to.
  9. Ok just please stop talking about big market vs small market, that has nothing at all to do with this. The Brewers could have easily taken on $5M in costs on the year and they wouldn't have batted an eye over it. Furthermore large market teams can't take on endless salary like people seem to think they can. The Angels have a number of bad contracts that have hamstrung their ability to compete. The Red Sox and Yankees have both avoided big deals because they don't want to go over the payroll caps that so heavily penalize them. If money has been a big factor this offseason it has hurt the large market team more than the small market.
  10. about 6 hour flight Well Counsell said he would be playing tomorrow, so I assume he’ll be on a cross country flight in the morning (if not the red eye). The Royals game was rained out on Friday, he easily could have been on a plane the second the deal was done. It was probably done a bit of time before it was announced as well.
  11. Yeah I agree. Phillips is never going to be a major league starter imo. Lopez probably wont' be more than a bullpen arm. Moustakas is a great get as a hitter for the team. I just don't believe that Shaw is going to be viable at 2B which derails all of it.
  12. That is 4 lefties in the Cubs rotation now! That can cause some weird things to happen.
  13. I think we end up with Starlin Castro for almost nothing but we take on the contract.
  14. I never said anything about luck, I said they have been amazing at it. The Cubs two best innings by OPS are the 5th and the 7th. In the first 4 innings of games they have scored 185 runs. Innings 5-8 they have scored 258. The pitching has given up 187 runs in the first 4 and 195 in the next 4. So on the year they are at +2 run differential in the first 4 innings and then a whopping +63 in the next 4. They have outscored teams by another 10 runs in the 9th and again in extras too. The Brewers seem to jump on teams and try to hold onto the lead while the Cubs have been falling behind quite often early and then passing teams in the middle and late innings.
  15. Started both of these guys in fantasy tonight so expect a high scoring game.
  16. You have a guy in your closer role, you sign a new guy who was in that same role and you comment that one guy is still the closer. There is nothing wrong with this, Counsell would have to be a buffoon not to make that statement assuming Knebel is getting the next save. It doesn't mean he has to stick to it 100% if Knebel continues to pitch poorly, but any manager that doesn't give this comment is doing things wrong.
  17. All 5 pitchers are also arguably worse than most of our current starters. Lester xFIP is 4.63 Darvish is 4.23 and he is hurt Quintana is 4.45 Hendricks is 4.03 Hamels is 4.18 Given the injury situation and how awful Chatwood has been the Cubs needed a back end starter much more than we did. They have just hidden the fact by being super amazing at coming back late which it seems like they are doing every single night lately. What we need is a front line starter and none of those are really on the market unless Archer suddenly rebounds.
  18. Right. Let a deep pockets team spend that kind of money on a reliever. That's not were the Brewers should be spending that kind of money and I believe Moneyball thinking also states not to spend a lot on relievers. That is not spending a lot in a 1 year contract. Any time you can get a player for just a 1 year commitment it is worth paying the premium. That is also the same money they gave a 32 year old Eric Gagne for 1 year, certainly not unheard of. For the next couple of years we still have some payroll flexibility especially for 1 year type deals.
  19. That was under the Melvin regime - there's a whole new team in place now. And a bunch of the players taken before him have done nothing as well. The draft is a huge crapshoot in basball.
  20. I don't know why the option wouldn't be picked up. I see this as a year and a half of a really solid RP for an arm that may or may not end up being a solid RP.
  21. The nice part of that graph is the Cubs aren't in the top 7 and 2 of their 3 players on the list are going down and not up.
  22. Peralta just depends on the scouting. Right now he can't pitch with runners on, he loses the deception and extension out of the stretch and he doesn't have the stuff to compensate. If the team thinks they can fix that I have him as a no trade but there is a really good chance he is just going to flame out too.
  23. Gray isn't an upgrade over what we have. He has always been overrated. Drury isn't really much of an upgrade either. Hard pass on this proposal.
  24. The Padres have one of those prospect lists that score really high but you easily could look back at in 5 years and wonder why the results were so poor. They have a ton of bust potential.
  25. There is an absolute super star in that body if he can put it all together. His hard hit % is absolutely elite, his K% is very acceptable in today's game. He is an elite baserunner. He rarely pops out which is pretty big. He is one of the best players in baseball at barreling the ball. As someone else mentioned though his one big flaw is he doesn't elevate the ball enough. Time will tell if he is an Eric Hosmer who just never gets over that flaw or he becomes a Daniel Murphy who figures it out.
