  1. I said 16-11 but what you say also will not surprise me a tiny bit~.
  2. It definitely makes him want to sign more if he likes it. Players want to maximize their money but they also want to find a good fit. If he has already seen the clubhouse and enjoyed it he is much more likely to sign where as he might have had some sort of prejudice against pitching for the team and just said no outright before. It really isn't just the highest bidder wins, it is the highest reasonable bidder and the best fit for most players.
  3. It would be nice to break him in now. He pitched 157 innings last year and is only at 74 this year so they probably don't even have to watch his innings. Get him enough innings this year and he may not have restrictions next year.
  4. 3 St Louis (2-1) 3 @TB (2-1) 2 @Min (2-0) 2 Min (1-1) 3 Cinci (3-0) 2 Pitt (1-1) 3 @Col (1-2) 3 @SF (2-1) 3 @ LAD (1-2) 2 STL (1-1) 1 Washington (0-1) I like to be optimistic in these so going with 16-11
  5. I have no problem with trading away prospects to get talent but you just have to be realistic with the roster you have. This team is nowhere near as good as the Nationals or Dodgers. We are likely worse than the Diamondbacks and Cubs even with a few additions. So realistically we are hoping the DBacks or Cubs collapse and that we get really lucky and somehow beat 2 teams a lot better than us. This year the NL is really stacked with top end teams, it just isn't the time to make this kind of move. For me to think we had a good chance to win the World Series this year we would have to trade for 4 or 5 players and at least one of them would need to be an ace pitcher which Sonny Gray is not. So the Brewers could have gone the Yankee's path I guess. Trade for Quintana and Darvish and a couple of the bullpen guys. Maybe we become on even footing with the lesser NL playoff teams. We may or may not make the playoffs since we have ground to make up. That would have taken at least half of our top 10 prospects with some lesser prospects as well. Unlike the Yankees we don't have a bunch of young guys in the bigs performing at a high level though so now we just traded away our near future. It just isn't a good way to run a team, especially one without deep pockets.
  6. Pick one and start them almost every day, the other stays in the minors. There is no reason to start them in a platoon until they prove they need one.
  7. No, but it surprises me some people actually think Stearns is passive. Yeah I don't think the Brewers have traded more in a 2 year period than when he has been here. Not making short sighted moves to chase a one and done playoff does not mean being passive.
  8. When we got Swarzak, I assumed it was done with the intention of getting something else. I don't really *want* the Brewers to sell off the farm to get a starter or a bunch of bullpen guys to chase the Cubs, but the trade just didn't make sense from the standpoint that it just didn't make sense to do in and of itself. It was like getting 2 flat tires and changing one of them, and saying "welp.......good enough!" Nope. I am hoping he likes it here and we sign him to a short deal in the off season. I just don't see Cordell as a big loss. Good enough you have to protect him in the rule 5 and likely expose someone else because of it, but not good enough to be a big part of the future. This is also being a little bit results oriented. The Brewers were in talks with others and easily could have added more, they just didn't like what they had to give up so it didn't happen.
  9. Davies has a 2.67 ERA and .286 wOBA since the all star break. I'd say that counts as lights out. Only 2 pitchers that are 5'10" have pitched a complete season in their age 28 or 29 year in the past 30 years. One of them moved to the bullpen at age 30 because of arm problems. The other was finished at age 31. Gray was awful last season and hurt part of this year already and has had 3 different arm injuries over the past 2 seasons. This is not a good target for us. This is a rental for this year that you hope doesn't just break next year.
  10. I'm not sure if this is an upgrade over what we already have. Sure hope they didn't give up anything remotely useful.
  11. Sonny Gray is a 5'10" pitcher with a late load who has a history of arm problems. I really don't think you are getting 2 more years out of Gray. There will be an injury in there somewhere. I would not pay for him at full value.
  12. Regardless of the sample you pick it look like the hot start was not for real. The Rockies are probably a .500 team or slightly under .500 before trades they make. They certainly aren't the power house they were made out to be in May. People were saying the wild card race was over back in early June and that clearly isn't true.
  13. The Rockies are 13-20 over their last 33 games. The shoe has dropped and continues to drop. We just haven't taken advantage of it as we went 17-17 over that same time frame.
  14. I agree with this but I would add that Suter has been fantastic and it looks largely legit based on the peripherals. If he can be a 3.50 ERA guy going forward it adds a lot of depth to the rotation.
  15. This is probably just random noise but he has absolutely killed the Cardinals this season. Might make him a more tempting add for the team.
  16. A lot of this has a long history attached to it. You could rewind the site at least 12 years and see the same things being posted by the same people. I try not to respond to it and have even blocked a couple of users but sometimes I slip. I remember a poster wanting to DFA Jenkins back in 2005 because he was obviously done just to watch Jenkins post over a 1.000 OPS in the second half. Baseball is a streaky game and your opinion of the players and teams shouldn't change with every single hot and cold streak. Just because we had a hot streak doesn't mean we are a 11 games over .500 talent team. You need to be more realistic about the roster.
  17. The team wasn't hitting well way before this series. For whatever reason the teams offense came out of the all star break cold. They aren't the only team that came out of it cold. This is the normal ebb and flow of a baseball season. We aren't as good as the big hot streak right before the break and we aren't as bad as the slump after it.
  18. These moves haven't changed anything about 2018 and 2019. They would have just picked up another SP and RP in free agency if they didn't make these trades. 2020 is when money starts coming into play. I don't think the Brewers make a real playoff run in 2018 and it is iffy in 2019. The young arms will need to break into the majors and be stretched out and that is still a couple years away.
  19. The only two stats I care about when you say Broxton is K% and BB%. Right now those look really good in Colorado. If he can control the strike zone he is a really good player, he just hasn't proven he can control it at a major league level. 38% K vs 8% BB is just not going to work.
  20. I am very encouraged that we played games with a playoff atmosphere this year and did not wet the bed. That was a hard fought 3 game series that could have easily gone either way in what felt like a must win atmosphere. It might not seem like a big deal but getting that kind of experience will pay off when the team does get into a playoff hunt.
  21. You are grossly overrating this Cubs team long term. 3 years from now Lester and Quintana probably won't be strengths of the team. Lester is 33 and his peripherals are fading, he'll be 36 at that point. Quintana's peripherals are in a 3 year decline already and his velocity is down. The other 3 spots in their rotation are likely to be high paid free agents. Rizzo will be 30 and entering his decline. Bryant will likely still be a stud. Contreras will have 3 more years on his knees which usually slows catchers down. All 3 of them are going to have to be paid heavily. Baez and Russell haven't developed at all and have been inconsistent defensively. The samples are getting large enough that they probably just aren't going to be the stars people thought they were. I don't have a good read on Happ yet but he will certainly help somewhere. Almora looks like he'll be a solid CF but Schwarber has been just awful and should not be in the field and I don't expect much out of Heyward. The entire bullpen except maybe Edwards and Montgomery will be gone with little hope to replenish it via the famr. They have almost nothing left in the farm system and 3 years from now their payroll is going to be stretched. You may say that doesn't matter but the new cba heavily punishes teams that stay at the soft salary cap. The Cubs have mortgaged any chance they have at a long term dynasty over the past 2 seasons to go for wins now. I don't think they are doing the wrong thing, I think they could easily win 1 or 2 more World Series in this stretch. That doesn't change the fact that this is good for the Brewers long term. Anything they can do to make the team 3-6 years from now weaker helps our team. The 2020 Cubs aren't likely to be as good as the 2017 and each year after 2020 they will slip more and more. As for this years Brewers. Adding Quintana, Wilson and Avila leaves us with a roster that I don't think can beat 2 or possibly even 3 of the Nationals, Dodgers and Diamondbacks in the playoffs. We would be trading away some important pieces just to get a wild card game and if we win it a loss in the first round. It just isn't worth it.
  22. Another great move for the Brewers. This Cubs team has a very short fuse now. That farm system has absolutely nothing left in it. Stay the course, wait to be good 3 years from now instead of making a dumb move now because the team happened to have a hot streak right before the all star break. This roster is not one player away from making a run, it is 4 or 5. Good job DS.
  23. I don't go to Cubs games because their fans are jerks and too many Brewer fans are falling down act like a moron drunk at them. The fault lies with both sets of fans.
  24. From what I've read it does not. Seems they are going for it this year. Montgomery and Severino probably don't have the innings built up to pitch deep into the post season effectively so they do still need an arm.
  25. I'd think it is more the shallow pen. It means pitching lower tier talent but it also means carrying a smaller bench so fewer matchup options.
