  1. Someone should tell Broxton he is allowed to swing at the first pitch. Seems like every single AB starts with a fastball right down the middle that he watches and then he is stuck playing catchup.
  2. Depends on if Marte blames the Fed Ex dude (still too soon???!!!) The fed ex guy didn't follow procedure so Braun didn't do anything wrong by bringing that up. That test should have been thrown out when it reached the facility and a new one drawn at the next chance they had. Still don't get why people somehow blame that on Braun. The fed ex employee screwed up. It is like blaming a criminal when someone screws up the evidence in an investigation.
  3. Don't know the answer to this but he was tested before the WBC and it didn't catch anything. There are rumors that a major league baseball test caught him in spring training before he played in the WBC. So he may have played knowing he was going to be suspended. That seems a bit unethical on his part.
  4. I haven't seen/heard anything about the Pirates yet this season, is this correct? If so, what are the details? Can you google that for me? Thnx, mangement. Polanco has been struggle with a shoulder injury for 3 years now but it has really bothered him this spring. He got a PRP in it late last season but it hasn't seemed to settle it down. http://www.altoonamirror.com/sports/professional-sports/pirates/2017/03/polanco-dealing-with-shoulder-injury/
  5. Agreed completely. This is always my argument to the jackasses who boo Braun. Everyone is on something and pushing the envelope, that's why players today don't look like Ben Ogilvie or Robin Yount. That isn't really true. Players were told not to work out because everyone wanted lean muscle back in the 80s. The players are just bigger, it is true in every sport. Yeah guys use PEDs too but it isn't all of them.
  6. Polanco's shoulder isn't going to hold up a full season either. I still believe the Pirates finish in 4th this year.
  7. On Intentional Talk today he mentioned he didn't wear his golden Korean pads because he thought everyone would drill him at 95 MPH in the ribs for doing it. Thought that was funny.
  8. You also wanted to DFA half the team because of bad starts. Nieuwenhuis shouldn't be DFA'd? Ok maybe not. Yet. I'll give him 60 plate appearances. If he has 25 or more K's and fewer than 10 hits, he should be gone. I wasn't talking about this year, it has been a 10 year or so trend now.
  9. They picked up Franklin who is a better version of Scooter. Not sure why you keep complaining about this.
  10. You also wanted to DFA half the team because of bad starts.
  11. The 2nd spot in the batting order is where your best pure hitter should play. Braun is comfortable at #3 so I understand not moving him up but there is no reason at all to move Thames down. I'm not a huge fan of Arcia batting 8th but it is a deep lineup so I get it. I would bat him in front of the C personally or as mentioned above bat him 9th with the P 8th.
  12. Well Arcia certainly was brought up too early, it made no sense bringing him up last season other than maybe to placate fans since we were trading so many guys away. Now that he is up I don't think you send him back down though. You realize you wasted a year or two of his value and move on. He is definitely showing improvements.
  13. Especially since Cubs fans tended to bring balls with them to the game so they could throw those back on the field and keep the real thing.
  14. I don't know if anyone else here plays OOTP 18 but this made me chuckle. 3 Games into the season I get a note in my inbox saying Brett Lawrie who apparently signed on with the Diamondbacks got into a shouting match in the dugout with Patrick Corbin blaming him for their slow start of 0-3. Corbin had pitched 1 game in relief and did very poorly. I just thought it was funny because I totally could have seen Lawrie doing that, he was such a tool.
  15. Considering we traded away all the good players on the team except for Braun and didn't bring up any young guys, I'm simply amazed at how good a shape the team is in right now. I don't really understand complaining about Stearns. He has done an amazing job with these little moves overall.
  16. The pirates look like a last place team to me. They are awful.
  17. Keep in mind it is April too. Guys just aren't quite as stretched out. Even in a clean inning you usually throw 11-15 pitches or so, so to send him out you have to be comfortable with him throwing 104 pitches or so. Maybe he just isn't there yet in just his 2nd start. In the case of last night his command started to slip in the last inning. My guess is they didn't want to take a chance on ruining a good outing when the bullpen was in relatively good shape.
  18. He has shown improvements this season. He is taking the ball the other way more and driving it more instead of hitting weak grounders. He has struck out too much though. He looks way better now than he did at any point last year.
  19. Russell Martin should be released by the Blue Jays, he is 0 for 12. Miguel Cabrera is 2/17 with a .404 OPS, he is done, just too old. I mean these sample sizes are worthless for judging players.
  20. This schedule absolutely stinks for the Brewers if they wanted to compete this year. Since we don't care about that it isn't a big deal. I would much rather have more days off early than late. You have things sorted out late and can react to it, early in the season having no time off is just awful.
  21. 1. Overreaction 2. Well I'd call this truth but I still think he is a useful major league player 3. I still expect Broxton to be a very good player. He needs to learn to lay off the high fastball though. 4. If he does it will be because they are both solid. I have been impressed by Thames overall plate approach so far. 5. I doubt all 3 are, one or two might be. Davies seemed to find his command later in the game in his last start. Hopefully it stays for the next start. 6. Very possible. 7. Probably not
  22. It just makes no sense to bring up a pitcher for 2 or 3 starts with most likely erratic numbers of days off between if they are someone you plan on using in the bigs in the future. Why mess up their routine just to hope to get 1 more win for a big league club that isn't competing. You leave them in the minors, in their normal routine and let them get to a point where they really trust their stuff and are in a groove. Then you bring them up mid season and give them a prolonged exposure to the majors before you shut them down when they hit whatever inning limit you have for them. There is absolutely no reason to bring up Lopez or Hader right now. All it does is stunt their development for a chance at 1 or 2 more wins, why bother doing that. I'd be really upset with the front office if they had handled it like that.
  23. Davies had a 3.38 Era in sept/oct last year and some of his best peripherals. He was awful in April and bad in august. Other 4 months he pitched like a #1 or #2 guy. He obviously doesn't have good control yet but that is really common for pitchers in April. You would hope this is something he can fix in the future but some guys just take longer than others to get sharp to start a season. It does show how poorly Davies stuff plays when he doesn't have control. It probably means every time his control struggles you are going to see a bump in ERA and it probably limits him to a future #3 starter as upside.
  24. This is April. Some pitchers just don't have it yet. I still expect Davies to be the guy he was last year. April is the least projectable month.
  25. You have to do what's best for the team. No reason to bring up the young guys this early in the season. Let them get comfortable in the minors and when they are confident in their stuff you bring them up mid season.
