  1. I'm no hockey expert and your avatar makes me assume you know way more, so I'm assuming I'm misunderstanding, but I feel like what you said was contradicting itself, so hopefully you can explain. You say we're great at recruiting defensive players, implying our defense is strong, but you're saying defense is the problem? Are you saying it's the defense that we play that's bad? And if so, how does that work in terms of having great defensive players playing bad defense?
  2. Baseball. It's been like 10 days and I'm already in withdrawal. All the postseason excitement complete stopped me from getting excited and into football this season and now I just really, really want my baseball back!
  3. Got the email about Trick or Treating with the Racing Sausages and I decided to check out the other auctions. I wish I had a spare $400 or so laying around - this is the coolest remembrance of the playoff appearance I can think of. http://brewers.auction.ml...316709&aunbr=99067032
  4. The Boston College result was very uplifting, but the UNH game made us look like scrubs. Anyone else feel a little weird playing Minnesota right out of the gate at the Kohl Center? Last year's MN series was in January and I can't believe we're hitting the ground running so quickly. Should make for a crazy first weekend. Very excited that the Friday Denver game's on FSN!
  5. Someone please, please, please fix the misspelling in the thread title. It's driving me nuts every time I'm in Off Topic *apologies from the grammar nerd
  6. Thanks!
  7. Thanks so much! We've got what we need. Knew you all would be able to help! Mods can lock or delete, Thanks!
  8. Work for a local publication and we need a pic from Sunday's game that shows the thundersticks - anyone have one they can send along digitally? It needs to happen pretty quickly. nicole (dot) haase (at) gmail (dot) com edit: my poor typing skills...
  9. We're driving up to Madison and spending the whole day. Likely going to eat dinner at the Gritty, but plan on getting in fairly early to secure our table. Whole plan's up in the air, but plan on going up in the morning and doing the farmer's market and then spending the day enjoying fall in Madison (drinking beer) ____ Also, if anyone out there could explain the college hockey juniors/draft/college process to me, I'd be highly appreciative. It seems to be pretty much the opposite of baseball in terms of maintaining rights to a guy and being able to go to college. I'm fairly new to hockey and there just aren't a lot of knowledgeable fans about, so I've never had anyone break it down for me. Are the leagues they play in like an advanced level of club competition? For example, our backup goalie, Scott Gudmandson, is from Canada. I spoke to him last year and he was telling us about playing for all these teams before he ever did the college thing and so he was a 20 year old freshman.
  10. Ok, am I just stupid, or is anyone else having a hard time seeing the commercial. It keeps opening in Windows Media Player and I get sound, but no video. Help the computer challenged.....
  11. OOh, that's probably very smart thinking on that, Zachlaka. I was trying to remember when that sale is usually held. I know it's before Christmas. Anyone know any dates yet?
  12. I agree with this and have thought this would be the case for quite awhile. I brought this up in the CC thread, but this is what scares me about the new, seemingly sudden push to keep CC. This whole season was presented as now or never and suddenly that seems to have turned around. I fully believe that Melvin, et al planned on trading Prince or JJ for pitching in the off-season and I worry that now that we're focusing on keeping CC instead that we're throwing the rest of our plan out the window.
  13. The word on the street is pretty much the exact opposite. He was done there and they were glad to see him go. He supposedly wasn't well liked in the clubhouse or by the fans. That's all conjecture, and based on how great he was here, hard to believe, but when the trade happened, it was pretty consistently mentioned.
  14. We're in a day and age in which people do not take hazing lightly. There have been too many incidents nationally with college kids dying due to stupid hazing rituals that university's are incredibly sensitive to any situation that could be construed as such. I went to a smaller school in the south and my sorority (and really, the greeks on my campus as a whole) went to the most ridiculous lengths to avoid even the slight implication that hazing could be happening. No counting when someone's drinking. It's not Rush, it's recruitment. They're not Rushees, they're Potential New Members. They're not Pledges, they're New Members. It went so far that we weren't allowed to give New Members a test to prove they'd learned the history unless everyone in the sorority took it. That's all a result of hypersensitivity to the word hazing. It's a hot-button word and university's cannot be seen to be lax on handling any situation that could even possibly be hazing.
  15. Did you see that they changed the rule in the offseason because of us? You now have to have a winning record to make the postseason. Eaves basically said he understands, but that it will really effect how they schedule non-conference stuff. Before they were more concerned with RPI, but now they have to be concerned with their record. So excited the season's starting I almost wore my sweater to work today. I'm sad the game's not on TV, even in the Boston area, but the radio feed's available on bceagles.com Under Jerry York, the Eagles are 10-4-0 in season openers, but they lost last year's. They're the defending NC and are going to play the final 10 minutes of last year's NC winning game before tonight's game and then raise the banner. All signs point to the team's inability to score going to be as big a problem this season as it was last. Can't wait for the 25th, home opening weekend against MN!
  16. This is my biggest point of contention. Nothing the Brewers said or did last offseason or throughout this season has given anyone any reason to believe that's the case. In fact, the rhetoric for the past 9 months or so was expressly to the contrary. This team and it's management, from day one of the 07 off season, made it quite clear that 08 was now or never, do or die and any number of other cliches. The first time I wrote about it in my blog was at the end of February on 08. From Yost to Melvin and even Attanasio to an extent, the prevailing mantra was about this season, next year be damned. This philosophy was clear throughout the season, from the signing of CC - when every article about the possibility mentioned that Mark A has made it clear that NOW is the time to go for it - on through the firing of Yost and the promoting of Sveum. It feels, to an extent, like Mark A, et al changed their mind about this now and are looking at CC and suddenly, after all managerial moves in the "Now or Never" direction have skidded to a halt and are trying to change course and I'm not sure I agree with that.
  17. I was so excited that it had game times on it!!! Last year's magnet that was given out before the end of the season was just team names.
  18. As a 27 year old female who lost her dad 3 summers ago, let me just tell you what you all seem to already know - cherish those moments because they're gone too fast. I know my dad would have loved this season. He was diagnosed with Leukemia in May of 2005 and was at the VA Hospital. Because of the proximity, I was able to put him in a wheelchair and take him to Miller Park a few days that summer. It was pretty much the only time he didn't hate the wheelchair because it meant spectacular seats and views of the field!
  19. I loved the rally rags and they also created a great visual but they made it very hard to see what was going on. I mean, I didn't get pissy or anything, but at points I was so frustrated between the people in my row being incapable of sitting still and the rally rags. I was down the third base line and this girl in the next section back toward home plate kept holding her rag and the corners as though it were a sign over her head and when she did that she literally blocked 2/3 of the infield. I get the whipping around of rally rags, but I still can't figure out what she was doing. Every time it got to the point where I missed more than 1 or 2 pitches at a time and I was ready to go tap on her shoulder, she put it down on her own, but I was really ready to just ask her why she was so ignorant to the people behind/next to her. It felt like she was doing the Care Bear stare with her stupid rag.
  20. We went to St. Brendan's Inn in Green Bay for our anniversary last year and I would wholeheartedly suggest it. Obviously you need to pick a week when the Pack is out of town, but we went in September on an off week and had no problems. It's an Irish Pub and Inn owned by the same people that own County Clare in Milwaukee, if you're familiar. The room was gorgeous - I'd even say sumptuous. In room whirlpool tub. Separate waterfall shower. Big, comfortable bed. Nice furnishings. Go to the specials page. We got 2 free drinks from the pub downstairs and breakfast in the morning and it was incredibly inexpensive. The food was one of the best meals I've had, period. There were no problems with noise or anything with the pub being downstairs. It's a nice drive in fall with the leaves changing and lots outdoorsy stuff to do in the area. http://www.saintbrendansinn.com/ Playoffs, school and other things made us push back the anniversary weekend trip this year, so we're heading to the Fringe Inn in Sheboygan Falls in 2 weeks. Can't give you any reviews, but it looks nice and is close to all the amenities of being in and around Kohler. I'm thinking we're heading to Terry Andre State Park nearby as part of our day. http://www.thefringecountryinn.com/index.html
  21. I was at the Packers game, so I had the Brewers game on the radio. Jim Powell said that after Saturday's game, in the clubhouse, Ryan Howard was overheard saying that in the first inning, after Bushy struck out the 2nd 2 guys, he's never heard a stadium louder.
  22. It's $10 to park at State Fair.
  23. Just lucked into tickets, so I won't be needing one, I'll be getting my own, thank you very much!!!
  24. Thanks to ewizabeff, I'll be in Sec 129, Row 13! I had all but resigned myself to missing the game, so I'm sitting my chair at work just fidgeting away the extra energy the knowledge of having tickets has given me. Brewers game tomorrow, Packers game on Sunday. Holy crap!!
  25. Surprising that you all got through for multiple tickets. I didn't even try for more than 1 at a time because I assumed it would all be singles.
